Growing up in a JW family, we ALWAYS had turkey on Thanksgiving. It was also not unusual to invite friends over.
The part I hated was that we still had to go to the Thursday night meeting.
many jws enjoy turkey on thanksgiving day and are often discreet about their indulgences.
why be two faced?
why try to excuse it?.

a letter has just been read out indicating that effective immediately, witnesses are no longer to use the s-8 slip known as the "house to house" record slip, as well as the s-43 "please follow up" slip (usually used for foreign language people).. the letter stated that this is because of the changes in privacy laws etc that are becoming common in the world today.. i will try and get a copy of the full letter and post it asap.. .
So, where will we mark the householder as "HBH?"
.
we can't explain something - therefore god.
checkmate atheist!.
What!? Is that supposed to make sense?
I prefer - we can't explain therefore pour a glass of wine.
it seems like we have had quite a few new members join up over the last few months!.
has anyone else noticed this?.
i guess that most of us "lurked" here for some time before we got the courage to actually join up and start as a proper forum member?
Welcome newbies! We are glad you are here.
this is an unofficial survey.. was curious as to the number of currently serving elders who were born-in and/or raised as jw versus those who were "recruited"( i.e, not born in or raised as jw.).
for instance, right now in the hall i am assigned to:.
2 elders were born-in and/or raised as jws.. 5 were not (recruited as adults).
In my old congregation, most were recruits. I was born-in but was in the minority. Most elders were recruits. It has been a while so I can't remember the ratio.
i found out that barbara anderson is scheduled to talk about the watchtower's child abuse problems on chuck morse speaks from 11-12 am et on november 11, 2014 about child protection and/or sol reform.. .
to listen to podcasts for $0.99/month, click on this link chuck morse speaks.. .
to listen to chuck morse's show 'chuck morse speaks" on the radio, complete an information form for the irn usa network using this link: station finder | irn usa radio.. .
I can tell you with certainty that the letter "E" occurred most frequently.
What kind of demented mother would name their kid Peter Peterson. Maybe she was an "E"philia.
i have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.
theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .
we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.
One of the things I never understood is why people considered pagans so evil. Given what their impact is on modern society, I think they should be proud (that is if they all wern't dead).
Tell me what you are doing today that is unique and will be remembered thousands of years from now - get my point? Those pagans had a handle on the human experience.
why is it that people who display self-righteous hypocritical behaviour are so blind as not to see what kind of people they really are?.
You are answering your own question. Those who are hypocritical behave just as you describe.
it amazes me!.
witnesses go on about how "blessed we are to have the website and all the content from jehovah etc".
but i have been noticing the parallels between jws and the mormons!.
The jw.org is a web site. Nothing more nothing less. It has some pretty pictures. The content is so dumbed down that a viewer is not expected to learn anything. If this is god's spirit I am not impressed.

The whole tight pants story was funny, but it has ran its course. I hope we all had a good laugh and can move on.
Unfortunately, some appear to be wanting to make a career out of this; i.e. “legal ramifications??” Come on, you are taking yourself way too seriously.
