I remember when I was accounts servant I would always leave the loose change in the box so the other congregations could fuss with the coins. The other accounts servants also had the other idea. Thus, there were always a few coins that remained indefinitely in the contribution box. Our actions showed that we considered these coins of little value and more of an annoyance than what they were worth.

Two coins of little value? Ok! Sure (!)
by purrpurr inlast thursday meeting was the verbal begging bowl item.
in which having told the audience that wt doesn't ask for money... proceeded to then ask for money.. among the usual scriptures cited "honor god with your valuable things" etc was also the widows mite story "she dropped in two coins of little value..".
and it occurred to me, two coins of little value in the uk would be two one penny coins!

JW Rumor: End of the Traveling Overseer
by Edison Trent ina friend of mine has contacts to a family with several circuit overseers and special pioneers.
they have good connections to bethel.. he told me that the latest rumor from bethel states that the cos should be abolished in their present form.
they have also recently begun to take cos back to bethel.. over the same channel i have already heard of the car fleet program and that the dos should be abolished.. has anyone else already heard of it?

The value of the CO is that they provide an audit of the congregation from the perspective of the self-interests of the mothership. I don't think you can discount that, nor do I think that this function is easily replaced.
Imagine what would happen with a renegade congregations with no central control. This is a worst-case but very realistic scenario for the Watchtower.

Need help understanding the Overlapping Generation teaching
by Jules Saturn inso this is a topic that seriously boggles my mind and please correct me if i'm wrong.
to me, the jw definition of the overlapping generation teaching is that the lives of the anointed from 1914 overlap with the lives of the anointed right now.
david splane used the example of fred franz and how he finished his "earthly course" in 1992 but while he did, he had a lot of "contemporaries" that outlived him and are currently living today.

Ask a JW and you will hear something like: The deep things of the bible are not easily understood.

I find Mike and Kim moderately entertaining. What is the current status of their situation. Based upon their last post it appears that they are fighting the charge.

What a dreadful situation. You are penalized for being successful. I thought the who point was to bring in converts so they do not die at Armageddon.

This is an interesting discussion. Thank you for your critical thinking SBF. I have a few related comments:
They believed that when they stopped charging for the literature that the brothers would keep donating the same amount anyway. It turned out they were wrong,
I was the account servant during this transition. The R&F did not contribute for their literature. I remember a night where we distributed the CD library. I was expecting a boatload of contributions that night. I still remember opening the contribution box and seeing a few coins. There was a very poor family with 4 or 5 kids. I remember that each family member had their own Insight book. I can assure you that they did not pay. these are just two of many examples that confirm what you stated.
The business of providing free content via the internet works very well with a for-profit business model. There are examples of publishing companies becoming very successful with the open access of their content. Their success comes from selling advertising, and the potential of building equity that translates into the sale of the business. The problem for an organization like JW.Org is that they don't have a business model that allows for selling advertising. And there is no real prospect of selling the business.
Thus, all their publishing effort represents a cost center with no corresponding revenue stream. What we see now is the org finding new revenue sources and cutting costs.

Approximately how many JW have left permanently?
by longgone ini did try a search before posting this question and found nothing current.
pew research -2016 says approximately two thirds of those born into the religion in the united states alone, no longer consider themselves as members.
(sorry, still don't know how to link, but it's an easy google search.).

An honest question for those who were "born-in"
by stuckinarut2 injust wanted to ask a question of those who were born in as i was.. how did you feel to have been "privileged to have been born into the only true faith - the truth"?.
did this make you feel confident, or proud - or perhaps arrogant?.
how did you reconcile the fact that 99% of the earth's population was not born "into the truth"?.

I was born in - and considered a "true believer." That being said, I had many questions throughout my life - however, at the time I did not realize these were questions. In retrospect, my questions should have woken me up - but did not.
One takeaway as someone "raised in the truth:" I was always highly embarrassed by my religion. I cannot think of a time in all my life that I was not embarrassed by being a JW. That is actually quite sad. My embarrassment created guilt that I struggled with.
