I never prayed in restaurants. Even if I was with a group of other dubs.
However, the real question is.... Did you pray in the cafeteria at the assemblies? I always found it comical to see all these people with their heads bowed either praying silently or aloud. Talk about peer pressure.
This peer pressure did not affect me and I ate my burrito as soon as I sat down.

Room, My post was a feeble attempt at sarcasm. Yes, it is despicable!! The article discussed in this post is an example, as has been explained on this board, of the society attempting to "have their cake and eat it too."
On one hand, they do not want to be pinned down with making specific predictions, but they use the words of the R&F to make their point. It is especially despicable in this quote because, if I remember correctly, the quote was from a young person.

Inkie, yes I have read most of Ayn Rand's books. The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged are my favorites. I read the Fountainhead several times as part of my deprograming from the borg.

Evidently you did not read the entity of the article. I vividly recall the magazine, and I remember reviewing it several times. The society never "said" that the end was coming before the year 2000....only misinformed publishers who were quoted in the magazine.
Here again is a situation where the r&f is going beyond the things written.
when i was a young child, i remember there being a small break between the meetings.
you could get up, walk around, associate, and then go back in for the second half.
at some point, they changed it to where there was just the song.
That was back when the Wt study had an average of 36 paragraphs.. Ah, the good ol' days. I remember them well.
with all the talking about visiting inactive ones, i wonder how many inactive people have not been visited yet?

We moved into an new congregation over a year ago. While my wife attends most meetings, I attend only about half the sunday meetings and none of the other meetings. The only time the P.O. has talked to me was once when I was talking to his wife.
I have not been contacted, and have not even had a "welcome to the congregation" visit, and I do not expect to be contacted in the future.

many of us are or were witnesses because we were born into the religion.
others became witnesses because they really thought it was the truth.
so many wish that they never had a jehovah's witness come to their door or their parents' door.
In my case, the journey would be different but the end result would be the same. I consider my self an agnostic. Which is, I am convinced, what I would be at this stage in my life no matter what religion I started with.
we ex-jws know very well how much the watchtower society put us under pressure to believe that "armageddon is just around the corner".
they've been doing it in one form or another ever since charles taze russell began publishing his nonsense.
in 1877 he advocated that true christians should believe that christ would "take them home" in 1878. when that didn't happen he moved the event up to 1881. after that he focused on 1914.. the society is still doing pretty much the same thing, building up expectations and then revising them, decade after decade.
Although it is a little early in the year, I would like to nominate Alans post as a "post of the year." You nailed the issue.
The society continually uses circular arguments to get their point across. In the meantime the R&F is worn out and is just playing the game so they can keep in the social club err, I mean, in good standing in the congregation.
