Amazing How So Many JWs Practically Worship The Literature...

recently, i had to help my mom move from ny...she has just retired and has been a witness for over 30 years.

i wouldn't call her devout in that she never misses field service or that she would walk through horrible weather to get to a meeting but she is devout in a sense that she will believe whatever the wts puts before her.... anyway, my two older brothers who are also "in the truth" were helping go through what stuff we were going to move when we came to her literature stash.

my mom is an extreme packrat and we had been throwing so many items that she had bought over the years without even opening the boxes (the items got old & musty so they were unusable to others .

I remember an illustration used by several C.O.s that was used to emphasize the importance of the lit. While the version was a little different depending upon who told the story the theme was the same - The LIT is a message from GOD!

There was an old couple who, upon receiving the new Mag in the mail would drop to their knees at the mail box and give a prayer of thanks. When asked why they did this - their reply was "we have just received a message directly from god, so of course we would give a prayer of thanks."

Of course this does not jive with the the fact that they will readily admit that the literature is not inspired.

The only ones, according to the "truth" (tm), that will not be resurrected who die before the GT are those that "sinned against the holy spirit." although this group has not been defined, it seems that I remember the Wt referring this to apostates...i.e. those people who no longer are out selling Wts and Awakes.

Yep, as long as you die before Armageddon.
So.....what's the point of killing yourself going out in Service, 5 meetings a week, assemblies, study, study, study, if you get a resurrection either way?

I have tried to make that point to several people, unfourtunataly it always falls on deaf ears. But it is the bizaro catch-22 of being a witness. As long as you die not knowing the "truth" (tm) before the GT - according to the Wt you are going to be resurrectued (unless you are Hitler). If you remain alive you will not be judged faithful - if at all - until after the GT passes.
So, what is the point of the ministry? The odds of getting into the new order is better if you never knew the "truth" (tm) and died that if you learn the "truth" (tm) and are eventually judged unfaithful.

the CDs were initially provided because so many elders had bootleg versions from off the net

I recall the same thing. There was one individual who had most of the literature in an electronic format. Interesting that the society had to re-act because of renegade elders. So much for controlling the flock.

As to the printing facilities in Wallkill, I figure they are planning for other countries to confiscate the printing equipment and the US will be the last bastion of freedom (right)

I am sure that there are many who believe their own propoganda and are making decisions to prepare for upcoming GreatTrib events that are destined to happen.

the latest WT magazines aren't available on the internet

However, as has been identified by this board, most articles are just rehashed information from prior magazines. To change the way they do things now would require a massive organizational change. The wt "form of worship" is predicated upon printed magazines that need to be pushed every saturday morning. If you take that away, how would they function?

This change should enable the WTS to drastically reduce expenses. Most households in the developed nations have PCs and will be able to use the CDs

What you just said highlights the change in technology that has and is taking place. The need for printing has vastly decreased. Which raises the question why the society has just invested massive amounts of money to increase the printing capabilities of the corporation.

It seems like the society is struggling with what it wants to be. There are clearly those who recognize the value of technology that eliminates the need for publishing. However, at the same time, they are still stuck in the "this is a publishing company" mode.

Would you agree that it is more efficient to disseminate information via the intenet instead of having publisher stand on a corner passing out magazines to dis-interested individuals. However, how will the society control the r&f if they more fully made use of the internet instead of having publishers cout time in an in-efficient and in-effective work.

Slip of the tongue and other embarrassments

love it when someone is trying to say something and the tongue chooses to rearrange the wording.

i think my favorite was one sunday a particular ms who had a thing for perfectionism was announcing the song to be sung "jehovah's happy people".

it came out "jehovah's happy peepee".

I had to introduce a scientific speaker at some sort of event for work. When I was speaking, for some reason my mind went into the "introduce the public talk speaker" mode. So I said something like, now lets give our attention to brother...err I mean Dr X. At least I did not start off with a song and prayer.

How much would you say the average JW donates in $$$ ?????

regarding donations, what would you say the average jw would donate in $$$ in a one year span.. some are richer then others, some have no children, some have 6 children, i imagine it would vary quite a bit.. so what would be a fair average, $1,000 / year per person ?????.

now when i say donation, i mean every dollar a person gives, this would include contribution boxes in the hall, assemblies, etc, donations for magazines, books, videos etc, every possible thing one would donate money to the watchtower for.. if $1000 a person is a fair number, then multiply it by 6,000,000.

= $ 6 billion dollars a year, nice scam watchtower.

Keep in mind that if a family contributes $50 per month, the contribution is from the family, not each individual publisher. So you would have to divide the contribution by the number of family members. I could count on my hand the number of families that consistently contributed a set amount. And since most of the growth is coming from third-world countries many of these publishers don't earn 50 per month, let alone be able to contribute that amount.

I'll guess that the bulk of the total funds coming into the society comes from estates. If that assumption is correct, that has to worry the society. The bulk of die-hard witnesses that are willing to turn over their estates to the society have already died.

During the 35 years I was associated I probably did not contribute in total more than $500. This amount does not include the money I spent when we had to pay for our lit. If we did a survey of those on the board I am sure that there were many like me.

May be that is why I am not missed...
