  at every jw wedding i ever went to, the celebrant has always said without fail that "the bride and groom have requested that no rice or confetti be thrown".. is this spiel used everywhere?

  is it actually a request of the bride and groom, or is it just bombastically imposed by the elders (i.e.

  a lie)?.

  The last few that I went to there was the anouncement of "the bride and groom has requested that there will be no clinking of glasses."

  That one always drove me crazy. I did not comply with the request.

  No. The Federal Defense of Marriage Act (signed into law by President Clinton) specifically prohibits the federal government from recognizing state-recognized gay marriages.

  Interesting, I did not know that. So, what you are saying is that a State recognition of gay marriage does not mean much. So, the Fed Defense of Marriage Act would also prohibit a gay couple getting the marriage benefits of social security, Medicare and so on...right? That does not seem right..

  I support gay marriage but I am against "tall people marriage." So, explain that.

  Any why shouldn't two same sex adults be able to willingly enter into a legal relationship to allow each other the same legal protections as straight marriages?

  Good question and is the basis of the debate over gay marriage. I see no reason why two gay individuals in a committed relationship should not be given the same rights, responsibilities, and liablities as a straight couple.

  WHY ISTHERE A BIG DISPRENANCY BETWEEN VALUE AND SALE PRICE?

  The "value" is the taxed assessed value. This is meaniningless especially since the society does not pay real estate taxes. The market value is much much higher. Just to put things in perspective, in Brooklyn Heights it is typical for a small two bedroom one bath apartment to go for $600-800K. Some of these buildings are prime locatations and, because they are society property, very well maintained.
