In Memorandum
by RichieRich init was the 14th of april last year that i had to sit my mother down and tell her i was an apostate.. i was closer to her than anyone else.
my father and mother are still married, but he let her raise me as a witness, and that meant it was me and mom.. me and mom in field service for 100 hours in july because she had to make her time as a regular pioneer.. me and mom fighting over what to bring for lunch to the district convention.. me and mom up late at night, when she would berate me, and then unload all her problems on to me.. me and mom and our 4 hour family studies, where we discuss 2 paragraphs of a random book, and then she would browbeat me until early in the morning.. somehow, through all that, i pretended to be a witness for years, just to appease her.
looking back, i don't know if i loved her, or if i was just afraid of her.

Green light on higher education since 1995
by Fatfreek in---if you believe what oroborus21 (aka -eduardo leaton jr., esq.
) claimed on an earlier thread in a different section.
that statement actually was off topic and that thread is so long i didn't have the patience to wade through and challenge him on it.

You can not equate the new light on higher education during the 1990s as a green light. A yellow light at best. The R&F were alwys told to proceed with caution. Higher education was only acceptable if it fit with the spiritual goal of pioneering. That was the story line for public consumption.
However, at circuit assemblies and CO talks a different story is told. The r&f are told repeatedly of the dangers of higher education. Higher education is openly condemned.

Did feel that you were at a mental breaking point at the point of leaving?
by jambon1 inprior to you leaving the org did you come to the conclusion that if you didnt actually take the step and leave, that you would run into serious mental difficulty.. i really feel that for 5 years proir to my finally leaving i was quite impaired mentally by the teachings and practices of the org.
it was coming to a head though when i finally announced that i was leaving.
i really felt that i was under intense mental pressure and that if i didnt get out then i may end up doing something serious.

Absolutely. I was at the point where if I did not change I was ready to break. I was headed for an emotional breakdown that I doubt I would be able to recover.

WTS Has Lost +35% of Elders in US Since 1994????
by Seeker4 inzack, on another thread, said he heard this figure from the platform at both the 2006 elders' school and his recent pioneer school:.
that there were 93,000 elders in 1994, and less than 60,000 today, in the united states.. i thought these figures deserved their own thread, as they are shocking to me, and to see if anyone else has heard anything similar.. i'll post a link to the other thread as well.

A quick survey from this board. How many were elders during or prior to 1994 and no longer today?
My last elder year was 1994.

Going door to door to recruit members doesn't work
by JH inwhen you look at all the hours they do going door to door world wide and then you look at how many hours preaching it takes to bring just 1 person to their organization, it's not efficient.. my mom goes to a baptist church now, and i was surprised to know that 500 go to that meeting on sundays and they don't go door to door to go get these people.. there might be 80 witnesses at my hall and going door to door doesn't make much of a difference.
maybe it's even counter productive since people don't like being pested at home..

Forcing the rank and file to go in service and then turn in a field service report is a very coercive way to control the group. It is all about controlling the R&F and very little about getting new recruits.
What would happen of the r&f no longer turned in time? The amount of fieldservice time would dramatically decrease. However, the ones that continued are probably the only ones who are productive.

Your Feelings On Getting Reinstated For Family Considerations
by minimus ini just read the mary/gumby where are they thread.
i want to say right from the start that i like gumball very much.
i've talked by phone to him in the past and we've had some discussions here over the years.

I would never judge a person for going back for family. I feel sorry for them, but I cannot be critical.
Consider going back theocratic warfare. In some ways going back undermines the stability of the congregation. The congregation now has one more person who does not believe. That can't be a good thing for them.

How Well Does the Watchtower Educate?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: georgia, "times new roman", times, serif; font-size: 18px; color: #330099; } .style4 {font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style5 {font-family: georgia, "times new roman", times, serif; font-size: 16px; color: #330099; } --> how well does the watchtower educate?admittedly, my opinion about the watchtower is that it trained.
and educated individuals wellin particular when it came .
to reading and public speaking.. education or propaganda?

The society teaches functional skills such as public speaking, salesmanship, overcoming objections, and so on.
However, they do not teach critical thinking skills. in fact, they discourage critical thinking. A person must be able to think critically to be considered "well educated."

Is David Beckham worth $250 million?
by unbeliever ini read that david beckham is leaving real madrid and coming to the us to play for the la galaxy.
soccer is not that popular in the us and that is a obscene amount of money to pay a player and i am surprised that david beckham would want to finish out his career playing in the us.
i guess for $250 million anyone would.

Worth reflects the amount someone is willing to pay. If someone or a group of people are willing to pay $250M then by definition he is worth it.
The reason why someone is willing to pay $250M is because they have an expectation of making more than $250M.
Economics is not a zero sum game. Giving Beckham that amount of money does not mean that $250M is taken away from poor people.

Blondie is dead-on.
Wealth and cash flow are two separate things. Cashflow needs to carry operating expenses. That the society has "laid-off" workers and reduced the outflow of publications is an indication that cashflow is a problem.
The emphasis on Tracts reflects the cashflow problems also. The society needs to keep the r&f busy. But having the minions passing out magazines is expensive. Let them focus on a single sheet tract and they are kept busy whle the overall expense is controlled.
Everything is about money.
