but, there is one hard and fast truth concerning jws and "generations" - that is, that many generations of jws have died without the realization of the hope they were promised.. there were many before my grandfather's time, but i'm going to start with his.
his generation, his peers, lived at a time when jwdom was exciting, bold, confident, seemingly deeper and scholarly, seemingly genuinely concerned about the preaching work and saving lives.
It seems like turning their backs on 1914 will get next to impossible.
To many people, my age (50s) would just flip out over that.
It invalidates everything.
The only other thing the could change that would be as big a shock to the R&F would be saying Evolution is right.

One thing that became clear to me was:
Why would god - user the term Generation - and then start "the time of the end" SOOOOO early?
Why would it take over 100 years and counting to do the crap he said would need to happen before the big A?
No argument for it taking this long holds any water, especially "being a god of love" since every year 1/4 of a million NEW JWs are saved from the system - but about 150 million people are born who WONT be JWs and will need to be killed by the loving god?
at a local meeting, one of the elders said that if jesus were on the earth today 'you can be sure' he would be preaching by showing videos on a tablet.. i kid you not.. i wonder what videos he'd be playing?.
obviously this was the elder's own pet theory.

I remember being the first elder in our circuit to use an iPad for giving talks, as well as district talks.
I did it because I could do tweaks up to the end without reprinting 70 times, and page count was not an issue, and font size could be what I wanted.
Then it became evil because I would be causing DIVISIONS cuz some friends cant afford a tablet.

i just had a thought of clarity regarding the jw explanation for this doctrine.
they explain that satan challenged god regarding his right to rule.
god failed to prove his right to rule.
I think there have been a few dozen mistrials - only explanation why its taking over a 100 years :)
