The two- class Christianity is a WT construct, so the question is moot.

WT Teaching On Who The NT was Written For
by Sea Breeze inmaybe someone can help me here:when i got baptized at age 23, an elder dropped a bombshell on me.
he said that the new testament wasn't written for the great crowd (me).
he said that it only applies to the anointed, and "by extension" the nt applies to the great crowd.

Why No Disfellowshipping Before 1952?
by blondie inwhy was there no official arrangement before 1952 to disfellowship people?
was there a different procedure with a different name?
was no one committing disfellowshipping offenses?

Good thread to bring up.
I don't have any inside information, but I think disfellowshipping was 'on the books' previous to '52, but seldom used in the US. I would guess that part of the reason disfellowshipping took off was the post war expansion which brought different needs and the organization didn't have a way to control it. Gilead started in the late '40's and they started to have conversions of a lot of different backgrounds from the various countries they sent missionaries to. Polygamy, voodoo, you name it. They got themselves trapped into the practice of ruling on disfellowshipping matters that they would have been better not commenting on or making rules about.

Does this look like the WT is going to be around a long time? One Watchtower @ One Awake for the public in 2022
by pistolpete ini keep hearing that the watchtower org is going to be around forever because of the many other religions that have been around a long time.
but i disagree because the wt is not like other religious cults.. the watchtower's breath of life is dependent on the last days that started in 1914. .
you can’t change 1914 without a death blow to the entire organization.. the watchtower's 2nd reason for staying alive, is it's continual urging that the life saving preaching work of warning people is the most important work ever.. but- it's very obvious to many, even the old ones that instead of speeding up the work------the work is slowing down to a drip.. comment by former believer; .

I think virtually all printed literature is on the way out, at least in any country or area where people have internet and technology.

Reason why fancy dress up parties were totally band!
by Witness 007 inwe had a fancy dress up party in our congregation.
elders special pioneers and many others came, though some came as cowboys and pirates with guns and swords which was not in line with the watchtowers "beat your swords into plough sheers.
" some sisters were belly dancers....yes they exposed their stomachs.....shock horror!

In our area (midwest US) there was a crackdown around 1995-2000 or so against all large parties. The 'open invitation' that had been the practice for years seemed to break down. There was a large party here that drew people from 500+ miles away; mostly young guys cruising for chicks, from what I heard. Nobody had any idea who they were. A few bad events like that and they just shut them all down.

Sept. 21 watchtower-your disfellowshipped kids aren't your fault
by joey jojo inlatest advice for jw parents: if your kids get disfellowshipped, fight the urge to blame yourself.
yes, great advice.
if your clueless, underage child is struggling in life, don't blame yourself, stop thinking about it and move on.

The best thing parents can do for their children is to NOT raise them as JWs. Leave the damn religion and give them a chance in life.

"My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"
by Diogenesister incan anyone remember the reasoning the watchtower gave for jesus speaking these words?
if you have a reference that would be even better!.

In agreement with Phizzy, I am of the opinion that he did not say these words at all, but the story and quotation were added into the gospel to show ‘fulfillment’ of a prophecy, since it is a direct quote from the OT.

Voyage of the Damned - 1976 - a great film
by dropoffyourkeylee ini just watched a very moving and poignant film:.
voyage of the damned, 1976. about the 1939 ship voyage of the st louis which carried 900+ jewish passengers from germany to cuba, were not allowed to disembark, and were eventually taken back to europe where many of them were eventually sent to the camps and died.
it doesn't touch directly on the bible students, but i think it gives some context to the political scene of pre-ww2 europe.. seldom has a film reached deep inside like this one.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1rxvtbwkrw.

In a way it is a metaphor for the voyage through JW land. Get on board with high hopes based on false promises, despair as things become apparently sour, bargaining, heartbreaking loss, finally you get off free but changed.
The acting and direction was superb too, and the inside view of the working of seagoing ocean liner was interesting.

Remembering Rutherford
by Sea Breeze inhe seems to me to be the angriest and most ill-tempered of all the wt presidents, especially after his stint in prison and failed prophecies.. “regarding his misguided statements as to what we could expect in 1925, he [rutherford] once confessed to us at bethel, “i made an ass of myself.”” watchtower 1984 oct 1 p.24.
rutherford died at beth sarim on january 8, 1942, at the age of 72.
[220] cause of death was...carcinoma of the rectum..."[21] .

One aspect of the WT religion that I think needs explored more is the role of the radio broadcasts in the landscape of the '20s and '30s. An old time JW I knew in the '80s told me that 'Rutherford and Father Coughlin hated each other'. There was a by her account a vitriolic on-air feud between the two, and a lot of the diatribe against Catholicism and priests was a thinly veiled attack on Coughlin. Coughlin was particularly divisive, and I think it would be interesting to explore some of the outrageous statements of Rutherford in the context of the Rutherford/Coughlin feud.

Recently appointed Elder and his Regular pioneer wife wake up in 10 minutes and walk away.
by pistolpete ini been seeing several experiences by jws who are waking up very quickly.
not years, not months, not even days-----but minutes.
it seems that all the hypocrisy of the watchtower is becoming more obvious to the members.
