It has been commented on before, but there was a book by Marley Cole called 'The New World Society' in 1956 which was favorable to the JWs. I had read somewhere that it was sponsored by the WT, though published by a non-JW publisher. The phrase 'New World Society' was a JW buzzword at the time, as sbf noted.

Olin Moyle's letter to Judge Rutherford
by GabeAthouse inolin moyle was an attorney who was invited to bethel headquarters back in the 1930's to assist with legal cases at that time.
he became disillusioned with the culture at the headquarters and penned the following letter of resignation.
rutherford replied with an outrageous article in the watchtower provoking moyle to sue.

Concerning the 1950's change from 'Religion' is all bad, to 'there is true religion and false religion', I believe it was motivated by their court cases to establish JW men as 'ministers' who could then get a minister classification for the draft. It was difficult to maintain that the men were ministers of a religion when all the printed rhetoric was that the JW was not a 'religion' and 'all religion is false'. Preparation for court cases like the 1954 Walsh case prompted the doctinal/terminology change, I believe.

I just pulled my 1950 NWT Greek Scriptures off the shelf and it does not have the mentioned information in the appendix. The last entry in the appendix is on the subject 'Tartarus'. This suggests it is an earlier printing of the 1950 Greek Scriptures. It has the verbiage 'the faithful and discreet slave' in Matt 24:45.

Law of Diminishing Returns
by Rattigan350 inthe law of diminishing returns states: the law of diminishing returns is an economic principle stating that as investment in a particular area increases, the rate of profit from that investment, after a certain point, cannot continue to increase if other variables remain at a constant.
as investment continues past that point, the return diminishes progressively.. from 1900 through the 1980s, the more witnesses that got baptized and pioneered, the more bible studies that could be had and the more additional witnesses that could join and then congregations would get bigger and they would divide and form in other areas.
but in the 1990s the law of diminishing returns kicked in, particularly in the bigger cities.

I think that the number of former JWs, some being grown children of JWs, is an important metric. In the US, its a lot.

Administering a Blood Transfusion When Directed by a Superior- Jehovah's Witness Policy
by Ron.W. inadministering a blood transfusion when directed by a superior - jehovah's witness policy effective june 15th, 2018. while the hospital liasion committee elders were instructed that they may inform doctors and nurses of this decision, this letter was not allowed to be distributed to anyone outside of hlc members.. as a result of the concealment of this letter, and by virtue of the fact that this information was only to be shared verbally with jehovah's witness medical professionals and others, confusion erupted across the united states and in other branch offices of jehovah's witnesses.
countless letters were received at watchtower headquarters in new york from concerned jw nurses, paramedics, and others who were instructed verbally on this new policy, but which contradicted existing written policy that had been in effect for many decades.. in addition to letters from witness medical professionals, circuit overseers in the field wrote to the us branch and hospital information desk in new york about the problems caused by this unreleased policy.
for example, south carolina circuit overseer brandon roberts reported to headquarters that "the majority of the nurses in our circuit were not aware of this updated policy.

How many of you remember the "Pioneer Shuffle " and the special "time reporting" of pioneers?
by Foolednomore ini started pioneering in my late teens an remember how slow pioneers would walk to the doors while out in circus.
also, they would not really talk to anybody at all.
they would start their time as soon as they got dressed an out the door, while us regular shucks started our time at the first door we knocked at.

It's curious how people like this keep coming up. I've read a bit about P S L Johnson and even had some of his books at one time. This guy sounds much the same.

Awakes says playing Chess is evil not for Witnesses!
by Witness 007 inawake 73 3/23 p.12 "the spirit of compatition between players can lead to unpleasant circumstances...in some homes tensions linger longer then checkmate.
chess is a game of war a play substitute for the art of war...danger of stirring up compatiton and hostility to one another something the bible warns christians to avoid.
what effect does playing chess have on you is it wholesome?

I love chess, which you can see from my avatar. I've played in USCF tournaments and it is great fun. Some of my best friendships have developed over the chessboard.
The '70s WT article was written during the 'Fischer' boom after the '72 Fischer-Spassky match was top news. Lots of people were introduced to chess at that time in the US. There's never been anything like it afterwards. As is usually the case, the WT discourages anything which 1) results in JWs making friends in a non JW context, and 2) takes time and energy away from the WT treadmill activities. Anything which does these two things will bring down the WT ire.
