An offer in exchange for some help.
by JeffT inas some of you might recall, i self-published a novel last fall.
i hoped “armageddon’s disciples” would be successful as my previous works (an alternate history trilogy) had done well.
not so with “disciples.” i’ve sold a total of nine copies.

I've been reading about it and watching some youtube videos. Somehow I was only vaguely aware of it back in 2015 when it hit the news, but now I find the story compelling. It's interesting how she was committed to following this dream, but the whole concept was flawed from the beginning. A case study in deception, both self-deception and deception of the investors.

I watched the entire video. I'll be really interested to read how the story develops. I subscribe to BAR (Biblical Archaeology Review), and I'm sure there will be articles about this.
I came away with the impression that there will be significant criticism concerning the find. It was found in a rubbish pile of debris thrown away from a previous (1980's) excavation of the site, so it was not found in situ. That alone will really call it into question.

I've known a few, and liked all of them. But many of their beliefs are crazy-out-there. Pure Bunk. They still believe that the American Indians are descendents of the Israelites who fled Jerusalem at its destruction, got on boats, travelled across the oceans, landed on the American continent somewhere (differing opinions on where that landing occurred). Totally made up.
Edited to add: I might have some of the details wrong, but I don't have the patience to look it up.

It has been commented on before, but there was a book by Marley Cole called 'The New World Society' in 1956 which was favorable to the JWs. I had read somewhere that it was sponsored by the WT, though published by a non-JW publisher. The phrase 'New World Society' was a JW buzzword at the time, as sbf noted.

Olin Moyle's letter to Judge Rutherford
by GabeAthouse inolin moyle was an attorney who was invited to bethel headquarters back in the 1930's to assist with legal cases at that time.
he became disillusioned with the culture at the headquarters and penned the following letter of resignation.
rutherford replied with an outrageous article in the watchtower provoking moyle to sue.

Concerning the 1950's change from 'Religion' is all bad, to 'there is true religion and false religion', I believe it was motivated by their court cases to establish JW men as 'ministers' who could then get a minister classification for the draft. It was difficult to maintain that the men were ministers of a religion when all the printed rhetoric was that the JW was not a 'religion' and 'all religion is false'. Preparation for court cases like the 1954 Walsh case prompted the doctinal/terminology change, I believe.

I just pulled my 1950 NWT Greek Scriptures off the shelf and it does not have the mentioned information in the appendix. The last entry in the appendix is on the subject 'Tartarus'. This suggests it is an earlier printing of the 1950 Greek Scriptures. It has the verbiage 'the faithful and discreet slave' in Matt 24:45.
