Some years ago, pre-Internet, I ordered the transcript of the 1918 trial of Rutherford and his associates. Reading the transcript convinced me that the reporting of time in service, which Rutherford started soon after he was released from prison, was done for a legal reason. Reporting of time was a way for them to document who was a member of the religion/faith. Before that there was no way to really know or document what a member was. Here they were trying to get their 'members' exemption from the draft for being members of a pacifist religion, but didn't have a way to define what a member was. Voila, the reporting of time was invented to keep the leaders of the religion out of jail for violation of the Espionage Act.

They just read the announcement for the first time yesterday at this hall (midwest US). It was not followed up by any discussion, he just read it and walked back to his seat. I looked around the audience for any reaction, but didn't see any. Kind of curious. I don't associate any with them, so I don't know if there was any conversation before or after.
Generally people are kind of brain dead around here.

How Much of Russell and Rutherford is Left?

how much would someone from that era recognise in the wt today?
what are the big changes that they would see?.

Russell's belief in soul sleep, rejecting the immortal soul belief, is still around. Also I think his rather unique interpretation of the ransom is mostly intact. The chronology leading to 1914 (not the interpretation of what significance the year might have), is partially still there. That's all I can think of that is mostly the same.

I just looked and it is not under 'News' as it had been previously. Maybe they removed it or maybe it is put in some obscure place difficult to find. In any event, there is an official announcement to be read at the next two meetings.

Real reasons behind this change?
by Gorb injust a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.
a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?
maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

What Happened to 2034?
by NotFormer insome years ago the wt started putting it out there that noah took 120 years to build the ark, and since the wt was the new ark, it may allow them up to 2034 (1914 + 120) before armageddon.
it could have been their new 1975 to get excited about, but i don't see any mention of it at all now.
what happened during the two decades since last i observed anything about the wt?.

Looking back at the last few months' GB change (exit of Morris and entry of two new ones), and knowing that their decisions are voted on within the GB and must pass by a certain percentage (thanks Ray Franz), it seems likely that there are a number of changes coming down the pike. The time reporting change is really a major change in the religion's mindset. I would expect more changes to come.

Agreed. At least in the US, door to door activity is virtually non-existant anymore. There was a time when there were numerous sales people who did door to door sales, vacuum cleaners, Fuller brush, Bibles, insurance, you name it. The JW door to door activity kind of fit into that world which has been declining for several decades and is now virtually extinct. Covid really put an end to it, and post-Covid there is a shift in what people are willing to tolerate in terms of strangers coming around to their doors.
