V, good observation and deduction about the door-to-door records being kept for support of non-profit status. I've always believed that major reason for the institution of keeping records was to provide legal support for the brothers facing the draft to support their claim of a minister status. The testimony of the 1954 Walsh case (I used to have a copy of it but gave it away a few years ago) seemed to support this notion.

The door to door work has been less prominent in recent years, I do agree. At least in the US, I haven't seen JWs out door to door for years in the neighborhoods around me. I have also observed fewer door-to-door salesmen, for instance, or just about anything else.

Other places he is identified as Robert J Hendricks III. I'm not sure, but I think the news outlet in the O.P. is incorrect in giving his name as David.

In the video he seemed to leave it open for the future, but I think they will wait a couple of years before they will give the OK again for door-to-door.

In complete agreement, Phizzy.
One comment to add, that is that Knorr's business model moved him to push it out to other markets outside the US. The fact that the US is not where the majority of JWs live has its foundation in Knorr's business expansion.

Questions I have about the "Ministry School".
by Pallbearer ini remember that jehovah's witnesses used to have a 2-hour, 2-part mid-week meeting which included a 1-hour "ministry school" followed by a 1-hour "service meeting".
please correct me if i am wrong in any respect but to the best of my memory the ministry school was composed of 4 parts, as follows:.
part 1: an "instruction talk".

As much as I despised the meetings, I have to admit that giving a 5-6 minute speech in front of an audience was a useful skill to develop.

Avatar (2009) - a mixed-bag but entertaining movie
by LoveUniHateExams inso a few months ago i saw avatar (2009) from beginning to end for the first time.. if i'd seen this when i was ten, i'd probably have loved it.
i find the film entertaining but i do have issues with it.. the movie is beautiful to look at, and there's definitely some interesting concepts.. but star wars it ain't.. first issue, the na'vi: these are blue-skinned humanoids with tails.. my first question is: why do blue monkeys who live 5 light years away on an extrasolar moon have african accents?!.
i know what writer/director james cameron is doing in this film.

I have not seen the film, and looking briefly at the previously posted clip, I don't really want to. Concerning the 'tribal' look and accents shown, it is a typical portrayal that comes up repeatedly in stories. A variation of the noble savage myth which has been popular and retold in numerous context for centuries. I am reminded of the Tasaday peoples story from the Philippines, which was reported on in various news outlets and later in the Awake back in the '70's as a sort of Stone Age tribe which was supposedly so peaceful and happy they didn't even have a word for murder. Later it was discovered that the whole thing was a hoax.

I also got an 'inactive' call, the first in ten years or more. I would say that the branch may be reacting to an increase in people going inactive.

Newly discovered Dead Sea Scrolls with the tetragrammaton within the Greek text
by dropoffyourkeylee inbig news from israel, some previously undiscovered dead sea scrolls have been found with portions of the ot in greek.
it says the name of god is included in hebrew letters within the greek text.. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/16/world/middleeast/dead-sea-scrolls.html.
"the new fragments contain verses from zechariah 8:16-17, including part of the name of god written in ancient hebrew, and verses from nahum 1:5-6, both from the biblical book of the twelve minor prophets.".

To me the most significant thing about this story is that there is still stuff out there to discover. Astounding. It's been 60 years since the last scrolls or fragments were found and something else was found, and there may be more. Keep looters away and search and professionally excavate any remaining caves.

Another article from March 16
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/dead-sea-scrolls-discoveries-are-first-ancient-bible-texts-be-n1261182
The article quotes someone who states that the wording of one of the texts in Nahum "differ slightly from other Bible versions, shedding a rare light on how biblical text changed over time from its earliest form."
Always curious about such things, here is a quick comparison:
Nahum 1:5–6 from the newly discovered text: "The mountains quake because of Him, And the hills melt. The earth heaves before Him, The world and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before His wrath? Who can resist His fury? His anger pours out like fire, and rocks are shattered because of Him."
American Standard Version: "The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt; and the earth is upheaved at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him."
I'm struggling a bit to see what the guy is talking about. Maybe a word-by-word comparison with the Greek LXX would be more informative.
