LOL I just found out where Lett gets his face gestures. He must have been a fan of the Davy Crockett show.

by Atlantis inatlantis:.
do you have a copy of a letter that was sent out by a congregation overseer, with a complaint from the federal post office inspector, concerning letters being sent out by jw's?.
yes, i have it, but very few people show any interest in the letters anymore.

Ditto Dreary,
The count of JWs is defined as the ones who are active publishers, which is in turn defined as those who have reported at least once in the previous 6 months. They have lowered the bar a bit in recent years to allow less than an hour to be reported (as little as 15 minutes, I think), but other than that the way they count has essentially stayed the same for years.

King Richard
by Rattigan350 inthere is this new movie out called "king richard" staring will smith playing serena and venus williams father.
i don't know much about this, but i heard that they were raised by jw parents.
how does that factor into the movie and their growing up aspiring tennis stars?.

If I had my life to live over again I would try to become an attorney. On the other hand, I've found that after about 10-15 years in a job it starts to get old and a career change can be a very healthy move, though it may not be the path toward greatest income. I've had four major career changes in my life and now I have retired and only do some side work to keep busy doing something.

Dune (1984) - er, yeah, lol
by LoveUniHateExams inso, i saw dune (1984) yesterday.
i knew it wasn't gonna be great, but deary me.
i'm not gonna lie - this film is not good, in fact it's laughably bad in places.. first, i'd like to know the thought process that went behind choosing david lynch to write/direct.

I just watched the new 2021 Dune. It covers roughly half of the first book ( also called Dune) of the Dune series.
I liked it , watchable, interesting to both fans of the book and non-readers. I look forward to the next one.
After the first book is covered, I’ll be curious to see if any more are made based on the remaining novels. The material gets progressively more obtuse the farther you go.

LOL, that's one WT quote I don't recall seeing before. I wonder what they would do if the list ran over 144,000

How can you have a deficit for a Circuit Assembly on Zoom??
by pistolpete inremember when after a circuit assembly the assembly overseer would come out right before the end of the assembly and make a special announcement;.
"brothers, we have a financial deficit of $5,000 dollars for our circuit assembly.
keep in mind that we have utilities and other expenses that need to be met.

I think they have a set amount of 'worldwide work' donation, sort of a quota, that they consider a fixed expense. It has little or nothing to do with the expenses that are directly attributable to the event. They also are still having to maintain their assembly halls, which are virtually unused but still need minimal heating and cooling, etc., so it is likely that they are collecting for those expenses.
In this area (midwest US) they had the assembly hall for sale for several years but no one would buy it. It is located so far out in the rurals with poor access to highways that it is essentially an unsaleable property.
