Nicolaou: let's take a look at Ezekiel 16. Vs 46- 50 states the reason for Sodoms destruction. They were care free and had an abundance, but they didn't help those in need. If you've ever read the apocrypha, the books of jasper and jubalees go into greater exposition of the state of that city. But remember something, and a narrow view will make me sound horrible so, try to think outside the box on this one. Children are only as innocent as the people raising them. Even in our day and age, there's recent history of 5 year olds murdering other children because they could. They didn't just wake up one day and decide to try it. They were influenced by authority figures. At any rate, if you drop down to vs 53-55 we see that sodom and Samaria are promised to return to thier former estate to humiliate Isreal, because she had committed more wrong than her two sisters. I can't off the top of my head remember where they are but there are vs in the old testament that give us evidence God had dealings with the natiins around, personal dealings, and they didn't listen. He's never nkt given people ample time to change thier ways. Even Sodom surley had time to change and to save themselves,, her women and children. For an example on time let's look at two. In Noah's day there was a flood. But the people had 120 years to turn around, and they could have prevented such a catastrophe. They had 120 years. They refused. The death of themselves, their women and children, that was all on them. Contrast that with Nineveh. They turned around immediately. Then johah had to be corrected because he wanted them to be, as Tony Morris prays for, split open hot dogs. He couldn't see the forgiveness given to them and thier change in attitude was a good thing. Nineveh was able to spare her women and children, and in record timing. We all have a choice. As adults our choices effect our children. The way they think and act. I may not agree with everything in any religion, let alone watchtower. But ill say this. Russell did have a comforting thought regarding Sodom. That she will have a day to repent. They didn't know of yehoshua and the promises through him. But they'll recieve their chance in the world to come. And I chose to believe that. Aligning ourselves with his will through prayer means we may not understand right now, like when your being trained on a new position at work. But we don't get ahead of the teacher because we have other tasks to learn right now, and our other questions will be answered when they need to be. But we certainly don't pray for the destruction of people. I'd rather pray for sodom to come back and her children have a second chance in accord with prophecy, rather than she continue to rot in the earth. Id rather pray that Hitler have a second chance, because his childhood was so messed up it turned him into the destructive person he was and I know he could have done better. I'd rather pray for the salvation of Satan himself, because God desires none to be destroyed but desires all to attain repentance. (2 pet 3:9) And I choose to believe that verse means that even the devil could have a chance if he wanted to repent and take the opportunity. Sorry this is so long winded. I'm not trying to preach at anyone or argue. This is just my thought process as I read all your comments. If you want a simplified version and on statements I agree on, see boogerman's comment above mine. I'm in agreement with their statements. Like I've stated before im not infallible so I hope nobody gets to worked up over my thoughts if we disagree

I wouldn't say i admitted anything for either side.. I will say, however, that all sides in this thread are possible depending on circumstance and perception. People have witnessed and caught on camera things we can't explain. Some things we just can't understand.. thats the perception portion. Circumstance is who you are and where you are currently at in life.. I believe prayer can work. But I don't claim to be infallible either. even if i were right, that doesn't meen just because I say a prayer with any good intention it will yield results. And it doesn't meen just because good things happen that they are results of prayers. Like you pointed out Simon, its all in the head of the person praying. The mind is a powerful thing we can't even begin to fully understand and is capable of creating or negating things others experiance that we can't. It makes us believe, forget, remember, identify &c. This is also circumstance because we developed these traits based on our youthful environment, vs the ones we develop as free thinking adults. Its all fascinating. Humans and beliefs. It's all so interesting. Makes me think of Bill hicks sketch on beliefs

Simon: even as a believer that statement is true. As a non believer looking in it would seem like the person praying is always looking for the answer. And they can reason anything. As a believer even if you're not looking you could reason a coincidence as an answer. Could I have felt a huge dose of dopamine over a coincidence at the funeral? Absolutley. I just choose to feel otherwise because I want to believe its true. Wich strings into tons OH'S comment. If you believe hard enough because you've used prayer as a form of meditation, you'll reason its true when you find a source to an answer. But nicolaou, you make the most important point. Even if you're like me and you believe prayer works, its dangerous to put it into practice to preform medical miracles. Its irresponsible actually.

I've felt prayer work one time. It was just this last March (2022) my friend Steven, aka kool-aid, passed away. At the funeral the pastor didn't show up so we all just took turns telling our stories about him. I thought to myself that I'd say a quick prayer. So I prayed that if it was HIS will that I say something for the family to let it be done. Now I only knew kool-aid, his brother Jesse and his father, snooks. But one of the aunts I had never met came up to me not two minutes later and asked to to say the closing prayer for kool-aid and the family. At that moment I felt something inside me. It was like adrenaline but if adrenaline was on pot. It was a warm feeling that swept over me. And I can't explain it further than i feel like my prayer was actually answered. So to answer the question of what prayer does... if you're a believer, prayer does the will of the father. It doesn't answer you're every want and need. Prayer is ment to address the father, to honor him, to show that we have not a like mind of our forefathers, but actually depend on him and that we know that the lillies and the birds are taken care of, and so would we be if we did his will. I asked his will to be done over a specific circumstance. I didn't ask for myself to be helped or to be put in a spotlight.. And i believe that because of the nature of my request,, I was given an opportunity to honor his name and bring some comfort to a grieving family. So what does prayer do? Prayer honors the request of the one praying if it is in line with the will of the father, if it is not selfish but rather selfless, and gives you a weird slow adrenaline when its answered. Thats my experiance

Long haired gal: they act sad but its good and easy to see bad and fake acting. They made me jump hoops for almost 2 years. Got reinstated and then restricted me from everything except commenting. They once pulled me in the back room, pulled out my old service record from my pioneering years and said they want me to do that again, you know, to work for them for free. But they wanted me to do it without my god given face hair.

First rule of book club: don't talk about book club
by Judgerussellford ini've never heard anyone else but ne say this but i've been saying it for years.
if you agree and have also been saying this for years, that is hilariously greater.
watchtower is just a cooperation that hides behind a religious title, that owns real-estate around the world, these buildings wich only have 1 purpose.

Disillusioned jw: I'm trying to be a watchtower historian. Studying these old publications for a second part time career, not even to be a part of the cult and its still very tiresome haha. But yeah there's no need to print and print and print and print and ect. Unless you just want to make money. I don't even have half the watchtower collection thats been released since the founding and if you count books, booklets, kingdom ministries, convention reports, reprints of books, and individual magazines within the bound volumes, movies programs different bibles talk outlines and sermons from all the eras I have almost 2000 if not more peices of watchtower paraphernalia. AND IM STILL NOT DONE COLLECTING! That is way to much. Way... To... Much

Long hair gal: my wife pioneered for a few years and still wasn't spiritual enough so yeah we get that. When I got reinstated I wasn't allowed to go out because of my beard and got ridiculed for not going out in service. You want us out or not? So we chose for them and it was not

The JW's greatest dogma...
by BoogerMan in....that god almighty/jesus personally selected j.f.
rutherford & wtbts inc. as a front for worldwide christianity, is an affront to worldwide christians.. the adage, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” was made for such spurious assertions.. as with jw's who claim, "jehovah answered my prayer for......," both claims rely on total credulity, and zero evidence of divine intervention.

That the gb was selected by God and they claim to be the personal mouthpiece of God. If Kenneth Copeland multiple personalities and cronies were running a printing cooperation they'd be the gb for watchtower

Question #2 for JW's
by BoogerMan inhow could the "two witnesses" mentioned in revelation chapter 11 possibly be j.f.
rutherford and his companions who got jailed and then released in 1919?.
w14 11/15 p. 30 - so in the fulfillment of revelation chapter 11, the anointed brothers who took the lead at the time of the establishment of god’s kingdom in heaven in 1914 preached “in sackcloth” for three and a half years.. watchtower november 15, 2014, p. 30 - revelation 11:7 says that it is "the wild beast that ascends out of the abyss" which kills the 'two witnesses'.. since the wild beast of rev.

As regards your second question, the prophecy to me has always felt chronological. If you look at it that way. Watchtower was only chronological up through the rutherford days in what I've seen. But even at that they were only chronological for the 7000 creative day timeliness. Also thats only based on what I've seen. So besides all that they just interpret prophocey to fit their needs when they need some good new articles to write

I don't know about rutherford and sons, but my buddy at work who follows Torah and I were talking about the two witnesses just a few days ago. We came to the conclusion that the two witnesses had to possibly be Moses and Elijah. Based solely on the transfiguration and no further research. We haven't had the time to look further into it.
