when a long term prisoner is released in to society, they are often bewildered and at a loss what to do.
for many years they have been told what to do, now they have to make their own decisions, and make their own way in life, more often than not with little or no support.. the same is true for those leaving the j.w religion, in excatly the same terms as the last sentence.. do you think that is why some stay within the confines of the prison like wt ?

I have heard to that if you take a small animal such as a kitten or a puppy and continually pick up the animal when it approaches the threshold of a doorway and set it down on the other side it will stop at the threshold and wait for you to help it across as it does not know that it can simply cross the doorway on its own.
I think in a way we can be that same. If we get to the point where we depend entirely on others it can cripple us from being able to move forward.

i saw a fight break out on the platform between an elder and a unbelieving husband who accused the elder of f---ing his wife.
he then threw the lectern on the floor and pushed the elder.

Heard that during a remodel that the brother that was in quality control made the brother remove the insulation from the wall due to the printing on the vapor Barrier being "upside down". We are talking about printed words telling the name of the manufacturer being upside down! It makes absolutely no difference in how it is installed. The brother that was installing the insulation had to remove the ones that had the printing upside down and swap,it over right side up.
The brother doing the installation told me later that he wanted to ask him " Which direction should the print go hen i install the ceiling?"

yet another secretly recorded judicial committee hearing...the hero of this story is rachel... this brave and funny kiwi lady stands up to the local elders and goes through this scary situation with grace and logic and so much class!.

I found it interesting that there was so much joking and laughing toward the end. I mean the lady just said she wanted to be Dfd and that her views differed from the Gbody and it seemed all cheery at the end.

when i believed in god i tried not to pray for anything selfish.. after a while i began to think that a lot of things i was asking my imaginary friend in the sky for were selfish for some reason.. i do not ever remember a single thing i prayed for ever being answered.
if there was the appearance of an answer it was because i did mental gymnastics to make it fit the delusion that god had actually answered me.
there was never an obvious message/answer from god.
Yes,.. but it is always "NO" and he does not say it out loud. The thing I pray for never happens so I know it was a "NO!!"

so lately every time an opportunity arrises while speaking to other jdubs at the meetings or assemblies or even just overhearing their conversations about new light or new publications, service, anything really i drop little things that pass unoticed by most but make some stop and think for a minute.. for example, after one sunday meeting, a brother came up to me with about 5 other jdubbies to poke fun at me saying, "i thought you said you never sat at the front?!

well, i have been studying jws religion ,my cousin is a jw and i have visited him a lot of times.i have watched his way of living and things like that.i have been at the district convention last week.i read so many things from both sides.i came to the conclusion that if someone believes god exists then it is so easy and he should be a jehovah's witness.sadly its true and that is why so many people are and every year they baptised even more.. stories about jws reducing?wrong.. facing problems?
false.. everybody in the convention had an ipad ,iphones etc with the bible in it.

Here is an analogy.
Imagine a group of people riding in a carriage being pulled by a team of beautiful horses. The driver has an apparatus attached to the carriage that holds a large carrot out in front of the horses head to encourage them to continue to move forward as they attempt to reach the ever elusive carrot.
In addition to the carrot the horses are outfitted with blinders attached to their bridles to prevent them from seeing anything else but the carrot so that they do not get distracted with the task at hand that being to pull the carriage. The driver also has a whip that is always at hand to correct the horses if they make an attempt to slow down or stop pulling their share of the weight of the carriag and its passengers. The whip has a distinct sound when used and the other horses know the sound of the other horses being whipped and all are brought to attention when they hear their fellow horses being corrected.
The carrot is the promised things that are in the future and are always just out of reach of the Jw. The blinders are phobias or irrational fears that the WTBTS uses to prevent the Jw from being able to look at anything but the prized paradise earth, always in the future.
The whip can be anyone of the disciplinary actions that the WTBTS holds over the heads of the Jw members. The fear of being shunned and losing the ability to speak to any of their entire social circle and or family members keeps the Jws rapt attentions forcing them to listen and follow all the directions of the WTBTS not because the course is the right one, but because of the fear of being whipped.
I imagine you have it figured out who the driver and passengers are and also who the beautiful horses are.
Don't let the driver lure you in with the promise of a carrot or the next thing you know you will have been hitched to the harness and it will be too late to run away.
We are the ones that have shaken off the blinders and have noticed the pole and string holding the carrot realizing that it is impossible to ever reach it. While we are suffering while still being whipped by the driver we are doing our best to bring this ride to a halt and hope that you are open enough to listen to those that have been hitched in the past.

a few months ago, the jws came knocking on my door (see thread).. this discussion continued and the next time she brought a man along with her.
i told them that i'd study with them if they could prove to me god exists and the bible was his book.
for our next visit, only the man showed up.

Can you give me more indoor links to the evidence that the WTBTS sent representatives to these meetings at the UN? I'm not doubting you, I'm familiar with the UN NGO fiasco and had read where they signed up for these reasons and the library card excuse was a lie.
Also I would think that having some print outs explaining cognitive dissonance and its effects, feeling surreal a bit etc,.. Also that many will excuse their doubts and pigeon hole the evidence since considering it leads to dissonance , etc.
I think that when we see someone experiencing CD we need to insert some info about it while they are opened intellectually to the experience.
Hand it to them In a print out so they can take it with them and read it and re read it over and over until they can get it, as it were.
I would explain to them just after making a mind altering point, me that you can see them thinking, that more than likely they will "put this aside" and eventually forget about it or belittle it until it does not "hurt their mind" anymore.
Explaining to them that dwelling on these arguments and seeing that they are valid is not beneficial to their idea as to how the world works or how they frame it and that they will have to either forget about it or see it for what it is and they will have to reframe their beliefs to loe the dissonance.
Of not, they hear and think about CD for a moment and the CD makes them forget about it,..
