Saename said "I loved the British accent."
This is a source of mirth for me - like there is one British accent :)
would a jehovah's witness ask you, the householder, "does christ dwell in this home?".
i have recently viewed the lady in the van, which was filmed principally in north london.
i am currently reviewing a transcript of alan bennett's play of the same title, looking for the exact quotation (the above may not be verbatim).. also, in the movie's subtitles, the word "curb" is spelled "kerb" in the original transcript.

i have a question for all the creative writers out there.
if i'm writing a book, can i quote anyone that i want, as long as i give them credit?
for instance, i want to quote mark twain, imitating rocky, quoting donald trump.
Don't take my word for it but I think that a limited amount of credited quoting is permitted under 'fair use'.

In general, the variations between British English and US English:
When adding -ed or -ing to a word, we (Brits) are a lot more likely to double the final consonant. To avoid doing so would sometimes encourage a vowel sound in the stem word to go long rather than short.
We use 's' a lot more than 'z' (e.g. realise).
We have an extra 'u' a fair bit (colour).
Switch 're' and 'er' sometimes (e.g. theatre, centre).
Yes, the edge of the pavement (sidewalk) is a kerb. We do use curb, but not for that.
Excellent film. Maggie Smith's portrayal was one of her usual stunning performances. It's hard to know what a JW would say. I was once working on a shop front in the town centre. A (JW) voice behind me asked if I knew who was the king of this world. I thought they at least taught them manners to pass by people who are clearly busy.
im sorry if this has been addressed, i have not seen any topics on this yet.. the wt for today seems to state, quiet plainly, that preaching work is done.
para 14,15 the question asks:.
"what proves that jehovahs witnesses have fulfilled jesus' prophecy with regard to the scope of the work?".
The JWs used to say that everyone will know about the 'Truth' - and then the end will come.
Years after, I had a little flashback to this when reading one of the offshoots from Douglas Adams' 'Hitchhiker's Guide ...'. A character called Bowerick Wowbagger becomes immortal by accident. To relieve his boredom, he sets about visiting every creature in the universe, in alphabetical order, and insulting them. Due to creatures being born regularly, his task is impossible.
Sound familiar? :)
this one went to the underdog!!.
go portugal!!!!!.
wohoooooo!!!!!!!.
I'm surprised that Portugal were regarded as the underdog. I reckon it was pretty much 50/50 who won.
i was watching serena win yet another wimbledon title recently (congrats to her) but it got me to thinking about her for a moment.
she identifies herself as a jw and if you look up any info on her it will tell you that her religion is jw so that means that she herself and the rest of the world identifies her as a jw.. for those of us who are df'd as well as those of you who are about to be df'd what is the reason?
and what is the main difference between a df and a fade away?
"Barrold, you can be DA'd if you are not baptised. I was never baptised and I was DA'd."
I'm surprised to hear this as I thought disfellowshipping required a baptism. Also, I thought that disassociating was something that could only be carried out by the individual - and even then, only if they had been previously baptised. Maybe they've changed the rules yet again; it wouldn't be the first time in my 40+ years away.
anyone seen sister williams working her assests on the latest beyonce video?
what's the go, surely she is not a declared jw?.
she needs some serious council from jehovah, and i'm guessing bro sammy herd wouldn't mind being on that little committee.. the song is called "sorry".
I'm not so sure about this. Even if she did leave the JWs some years ago, it's not so rare for her to believe that Jehovah is God's name and to have some indoctrination floating around inside her. Without research, all manner of unresolved half-beliefs can linger - sometimes for decades.
The JWs, in spite of what they say, do not have a monopoly on the name Jehovah.
I just think that there's plenty they can be nailed on without quoting someone who may not even be a member.
Still, what do I care? :)
i'm not sure if anyone is keeping track, but as of today, the wtbts has spent $40,000.00 usd to avoid releasing sensitive documents to the superior authorities.
that's $40,000.00 usd of "dedicated funds.
are you a born-in jw?
Swindler's list - no less: the story of how thousands of kiddie fiddlers were rescued from "evil" persecutors.
Yes, it is sarcasm, in case anyone doubted.
i mean this with all due respect, i would like to hear from genuine people who think jw have it wrong and then what is the truth?.
im not talking about silly little quibbles here and there.. is jehovah real?
the the bible is word?
How do you know the difference between the wisdom of Jehovah, and the wisdom of Bronze Age humans who wrote about Jehovah?
-
Jehovah told them what to write.
Circular reasoning at its finest.
How do you know that the Bible is true?
Because it says so in the Bible.
hello jwn,.
to introduce myself, i am still in the jws but learned ttatt some months ago.
i now ask this question to get more info on a past teaching.. between 1967 and 1980 was when the 'current understanding' of the wts was that organ transplants were cannibalism, and thus abhorrent.
"Even now, though they have abandoned much of the egregious medical quackery spewed by the Golden Age, they continue to impose their groundless religious interpretations on their followers' most personal medical decisions. They rail against in-vitro fertilization (IVF), egg and sperm donation, surrogacy, etc., equating it with adultery."
IVF is banned? I never knew. That is just crazy.
