New Edition of the NWT Bible in the works!
by Wonderment ini just noticed in the jw.org site that the watchtower society recently published online the first book of the study bible (matthew), a new edition of the nwt bible.
so far, i'm seeing an overview of the book considered, and explanations of various verses of each chapter throughout.
it is not a full commentary.

Oh wow! Are they really doing a revised version of the New World Translation? Did you also know that JWs don't celebrate Christmas anymore?! -

If there is anything to bible prophecy, keep an eye out on Israel
by EndofMysteries inwhat will be the end game whether in a few years, our lifetime, or hundreds + years from now.
bible prophecy did say israel / jews would be scattered then eventually brought back.
russell was declaring that and it was believed before being changed shortly before it happened.

Bible prophecy? Bollocks.
And bad form on the PMS comment. What the hell, man? Because a woman wants to discuss a subject on the facts makes her premenstrual? Offensive and inappropriate.

No 'Tight Pants' policy is now official - classed as 'disturbing'
by wizzstick inin short:- tight pants is no longer just a am3 hang up (or is that a hang up on the well hung?
)- brothers who have effeminate body language are flagged up- as are sisters with 'masculine' hair styles or dress- such dress is 'disturbing to the congregation'- the above must heed the (repeated) counsel from the elders...or they get stripped of the right to share on the ministry- however...this will not be revealed (announced) to the congregation.
wow.

I can vouch for what Morpheus says. We had a guy in one of my congregations that grew a long ZZ top style beard. He was baptized. They removed his service "privileges." No announcement of course, but my Dad told me. (Dad was the PO.) -

Kudos to Lloyd for getting this leak.
A Bethelite sent it to him. Do you know how high up you have to be in Bethel to have access to the CO's outline? At the very least, you'd have to be in the service department.
First the letter leak, and now this leak. This mole is very high up indeed.

You have a $100,000,000 budget to do a global campaign against the WTBS worldwide. How would you spend it?
by JWchange inwhat if by inheritance, winning the lottery or any other way, you suddenly got your hands on $150m after tax.
you maybe would spend a third of this giving your extended family financial security for life.
you maybe would buy a boat and a few investment properties.

I wouldn't start a campaign with it.
I'd set up a charity/scholarship to help youths that want to escape the cult get a college education and provide some living assistance while they go to college.

The description for that Global Assistance Arrangement sounds like a fund set up specifically for lawsuit settlements disguised as "disaster relief." -

We discovered a Dyson Sphere! . . . maybe
by Coded Logic inokay, okay, okay - i know we're not supposed to jump to conclusions.
but the odds this is a "naturally occurring event" are pretty low.
and it's just the sort of megastructure we would expect an advanced alien civilization (type 2) to build.

Very weak arguement.....we dont understand so it must be aliens ....or Jehovah's toilet light going on and off.
You must not have read the article. None of the scientists quoted are saying that it "must be" aliens. But, they said that there were enough factors and evidence to at least consider that hypothesis.
Allow the scientific method to run its course before you ridicule it.
A quote from the article: "To be sure, both Boyajian and Wright believe the possibility of alien megastructures around KIC 8462852 is very, very remote. It’s worthy of hypothesis, Wright told Slate, “but we should also approach it skeptically.”"

Did an EX-JW wake you up to TTATT or did you put the effort to wake up yourself?
by John Aquila inhow many of us were woken up by some apostate yelling false prophets at a convention?.
how many of us were woken up by someone holding a sign and yelling, what happened to 1975.
how many of us were coerced to investigate the wt because some ex-jw pulled up a bunch of old watchtowers magazines and told us to read the false predictions?.

I started to wake up on my own last year around this time. I was kind of one of those lazy witnesses for a while after leaving Bethel.
Before Bethel, I was all about the doctrine and devouring all the information I could get from the Borg. I never doubted. But I also never had independent resources for research. (We didn't have the internet at home at the time.)
But, last year, 2014, at the Regional Convention, I decided that I wasn't a good enough witness and that I wanted to do more. So I made a concerted effort and went to every single meeting...I went in service every chance I got. I started seeking first the Kingdom. I started a Bible Study. Then I realized I hadn't studied deeply in more than 12 years or so...and I had never really studied the Bible Teach book.
What an incredible opportunity to "Make the Truth My Own" all over again!
So I started researching everything. When the society quoted a secular source, I'd google that source to find out the context.
I wasn't trying to disprove the Society. I was trying to confirm it. Critical research was out of habit. The last time I truly did "personal study" beyond just reading the watchtower was before college. Even though I dropped out of college to go to Bethel, I still retained some of those skills I learned. Like the Logic class I took. I learned how to destroy faulty reasonings by identifying fallacies.
Well, needless to say, I was shocked at how intellectually thin the so-called "evidence" was for the doctrines I was researching.
I tried stopping so that I wouldn't have to deal with the doubts that were getting serious.
But then the Tight Pants Tony incident happened, and I was disgusted, embarrased to be a JW, and shocked that it was allowed to air.
The next week, I started lurking on here and JWFacts.com. I googled Crisis of Conscience PDF and started reading it during Christmas break.
The first week of January, I officially registered on this forum and made my first post, Losing Faith.

Bygone Days of Old Bethel...
by freemindfade insomething occurred to me last night.
people that made their pilgrimage to jw mecca (bethel) would often be excited about some silly things, i say silly because for those of you who were there or lived near enough to be involved in these things regularly they lost their magic.
i am talking about on tours one of the most memorable things people talked about or looked forward to... lunch.

CappyTan: I didn't realize you were a Bethelite? No wonder you are so hard-core anti-JW.....I would be even more-so if I'd had been enslaved there. Truly, the best anti-JW's are Ex-JW's from headquarters. lol
I was only there for about a year, fortunately.
Dropped out of college to go, though. Ugh.

*sigh*
What's that fallacy called again? Oh that's right. Ad hominem.
That's when you attack someone's character to distract from the problem that you don't have evidence to back up your position on the facts
