it sickens me to hear the venemous propoganda against the evils of higher education.
they talk so much about how it consumes valuable time during one's youth - how it takes away time from pursuing spiritual goals like pioneer service, missionary service, mts, bethel, etc..that's one of their biggest talking points in their argument against a college education.
their other point is that we shouldn't be preparing for a long stay in this system, so why the need to prepare for a lucrative and satisfying career by attending college for 4 years, when time is running out, and the big a is literally right around the corner...it shows a lack of faith in jah's promises and a materialistic attitude..etc.. yet..they never say anything about the countless thousands of teenage or near-teenage weddings!
You've hit on a subject that is particularly in my face lately. My daughter is 17. Her mom is a jihadist JW - a fanatic in the extreme, but one of those fanatics that even fellow JWs tell to "hey, lighten up." I tried to get my daughter to come and visit her grandma who was sick with lung cancer. Her mom put the kabosh on it because "she's so emotionally fragile that she just wouldn't be able to handle it unless I am there." Yet, in the next breath, her mom, the psycho-bitch from hell (we just call her Satan for short), tells me about how our daughter is interested in this man who is older than her, but how she (my ex) was irritated because someone a little younger than our daughter is interested in her but Nina won't give him the time of day...and isn't that just terrible? The whole time I'm thinking "Okay, she's too emotionally immature to come see her dying grandmother by herself at 17 years of age, but you have no problem with her pursuing and being pursued by others with the intent to have a serious long term relationship? How is this ever okay?"
I was 20 years old when I got married the first time - waaaaay too young. Teens have no business making lasting committments that have such negative ramifications when things to tits-up.
hi people,.
well, i kicked the jwd habit a few years back, but idle curiosity and a long daily commute got me sniffing around the other day, and after trying every possible password i have ever used i get back in.... it's been long time everyone... cannot believe that, give or take a tiny bit, everything (and everyone) is the same.
some new names, some missing... has anything major happened in dubbieland or xdubbieland?
I remember you! I took a long hiatus as well...I'm recently back because I just got the urge.
i live in michigan and am currently looking to leave the area, as it is no longer the land of plenty that it once was.
i intend to move out of state, but i have this problem.
i don't have the funds to simply move and then find work when it comes to me, so it is important that i find work before i actually relocate.
The college I work with will interview candidates from all over. Sometimes, if you get past the phone interview, you are flown down at the expense of the school for an in-person interview. There are still private industry companies that do this too...as someone else said: Depending on your sill set.
i am sick and tired of people putting down posters like the andersons!
they work hard to expose some things we might never have known about.
why some find fault with them, or ray franz before them, or maximus when he was here is beyond me.. be thankful for those that decide to come here and share what they know about this organization.. we get elders who are still in their positions and they share with us a lot of interesting news and perspectives.
I think we need an ExJW hall of fame for those who have made significant contributions to exposing the WTS and helping ex-dubs to realize that they aren't completely crazy. Many would have deserving rolse in our hall of fame...and the best thing about it is that pretty much all of them do it for reasons OTHER THAN self-agrandizement.
if i was the only brother other than the conductor i would purposfully get up and go wait in the bathroom so he wouldnt ask me to say prayer..
Haha...I used to dodge "privileges" too!
which syestem do you think works better?
capitalism or communism.
i think none of them work.
Check your history. The greatest period of growth in the country was between 1865-1913. The greatest rise in standards of living in human history. There was hardly any regulation then. You would think the country would have turned into a medieval feudal fiefdom system by that logic, but people were beating the door down to get into the US back then.
Sure there was economic expansion and the integration of new technologies for the masses...mass production was still in its conceptual stage for much of this time. Perhaps the standard of living increased on the average, but it was on the backs of labor. The aforementioned period is called the Gilded Age for a reason...it is also known as the age of the Robber Barrons. Working conditions were at their nadir during this time. Thus, the rise of the labor unions began to ensure against blatant exploitation of laborers. No regulation isn't the panacea that pro-capitalists would have us believe. As someone previously mentioned, there is a HUGE difference between Free traid and Fair trade. These companies that balk about government regulation didn't create their wealth within a vaccum. They used all of the resources and infrastructure that was paid for by the larger collective of society. I have yet to see a transportation company that uses its own rails, it's own highways, and its own seaport. They may THINK it's theirs, but your tax dollars and mine paid for it.

scary21 - absolutely. My criticism of Rand can only be made because I've taken time to read her novel. One must also understand her background to see where she was coming from as she wrote. I'd like to think that I'm open minded enough to read something I totally disagree with. In that vein, I actually read the entire "Left Behind" series by Rev. Tim Lehay - even though they were crap and I don't come close to buying in to it. It was an exercise in trying to understand fundamentalist christians who take the book of revalation as a literal prophecy.
I try and read widely because I always have something new to learn. Too many only read or watch things that shore up their own beliefs.
i guess this is a question mostly for born-ins.
i wonder how many of you went to college after leaving or while you were in and what was your experience like?.
Scholarships and student loans here. There are great resources on the internet that can help you to find available scholarships that you might qualify for. It takes time to go through all the scholarship applications, but it can make a big difference. Also, going to public universities is less expensive than private institutions.

I'm in my Junior year of my undergrad - majoring in Language Arts Education. It's one of the very best things I've ever decided to do. In fact, I'm already laying plans to continue on to pursue my Master's in Instructional Technology - and then it will be on to a PhD. I plan to continue working in academia and to go very far, you must have a PhD. I'm not sure what specific field I'll pursue that in, but it's definitely on the radar.
Also, for the last 2 1/2 years, I've been working at the college where I go to school. Again - one of the best decisions I've ever made.
