i don't normally share alot of my personal information on this board, mainly because i am still technically a jw, and also because i like my privacy.. but today is my parents' wedding anniversary, and apart from my sister, i doubt anyone else will remember what today marked, not even my father (long story, don't ask).. so, here is their wedding photo, in tribute to their happy marriage.
they were married for 26 years.
had my mother not died, they would have been celebrating 47 years today.. .

save yourself with good works.
jesus says that one will inherit eternal life if one does the following things: obey the commandments, and give to the poor all that one owns.
faith is not enough.
I still don't see the connection you're trying to make between predestination and free will. They seem polar opposites. It just doesn't make sense to use the term predestination in such a manner.
The use of the word predestination (game plan) would be based on : What God's will or purpose for mankind is.
Free Will:
1 : voluntary choice or decision <I do this of my own free will>
2 : freedom of humans to make *choices* that are *not determined by prior causes or by divine intervention.*
That is what we are given.
We can choose not to do his will. If someone wants to murder they have that choice. But with that choice comes a consequence. That consequence may be the electric chair. A person knows the possible outcome of their crimes before they are committed. It's still their decision as to whether or not they choose to do so. They are willing to accept that risk it's again their choice.
once one gets enough information about the bible, many people are disgusted by the god described therein.....Do you equate a clear look at the horrors spoken of as God's will in the bible as "stumbling"?If He exist and created and set the rules and laws. It's his game..ball and bat. We can play like he wants or we can get out of the game.
What about people like me, who have heard and can't believe, as it isn't logical? What about all those who never will hear, not in their lifetimes?
What about people who have a very strong belief and faith in God, but reject totally and w/o reservation the bible and all that comes with it, including the scriptures we are discussing?
Do I have the answers "NO" *thus the user name noidea.
The only thing I have and choose to have is faith. What is faith? .. Faith is the firm belief in something for which there is no proof. Does that mean that I am still engaged in mind control? *hmmm...maybe
For those that do have faith in him ..we have to rely on him knowing the circumstances and the heart condition of an individual and him doing right by them.
That faith is what I have to have to help me get through the every day to day living. Am I living in a dream world..*hmm..maybe
But until someone is willing to walk in my shoes then and only then can they judge me.. For those that can't believe.. I judge them not.
psst Six..has anyone ever told you ...you ask a lot of questions..
*remembers why she was sticking with the fluff post.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Even though your presence may not be welcomed. There is nothing wrong in writing them a note of sympathy.
What they decide to do with it is their option, it would at least help you to know that you didn't sit by idle.
BTW..Good to have you here!

That concept kind of renders Ephesians 1:3-6 silly and moot then, doesn't it? If every human is "chosen", then why even mention it in that context?
11 In him we were also chosen, [5] having been predestined
according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, (Eph. 1:1-13)
Our free will comes in to play as we individually hear and choose to have faith and believe or not believe.
Also, with this free will concept in mind; are people who have never heard about this "gift" or whose religious upbringing predisposes them to turn away from bible based doctrine, still able to have an equal share of "free will" in choosing to accept this gift from god?Even Jesus was disgusted with the religious leaders of his time. Yet, he showed what was important..serving God and having faith in his promises. Just because a religion butchers the word does not give us a go directly to boardwalk pass. We are all accountable for our actions and what we choose to believe or put our faith in.
What about people who have learned enough about the bible to be disgusted with it, and by extension, any concept of a "gift of god" that comes out of it?Either one exercises "Faith" or they don't..the choice is still up to that person. Anyone can allow themselves to be stumbled.
I mean, it wasn't "free will" that got me out of the WT organization, it was information. I didn't have it previously. Now I do.The information that you received was on a man made org. they are separate from God. Just because one chooses to walk away from a religion does not mean they have to walk away from God. There again an individual decision. We have that free will to make up our own choice. With every choice good or bad there is a consequence.

Nemesis, you have not addressed the question of predestination. The verse below seems to say that whoever is to be saved was chosen long before they were even born, before even the world was created. How does this fit into your theology?
ummm..could it be through Free Will?
God grants life *predestined* it to those who want it. It's our Free Will to accept his gift or not.
after eighteen years of marriage, my husband passed away last year of a terminal liver disease.

a large proportion of the ex jws i know and stay in contact with are pretty much down and out.. i stay in contact with 4 from my past.. out of the 4:.
3 of them are long term unemployed.. 3 of those have psychiatric problems.. 2 of them dont have a stable relationship.. only 1 of them is a reasonable financial success.. my perception of the ex dub world is one of destroyed lives and, too a large degree, hopelessness.i base this perception on those ex dubs i know.
course, they are all hard core apostates.
<~~~~looks around nervously...."I'm glad I don't have any if those problems"..

who viciously attack the teachings and beliefs of their resigned religion?.
i was thinking of this last night....i have never in my life seen a movement so big as the apostates against jw's..... no other religion has displayed this....usually people just quietly leave and get on with their lives and there is no anomosity...even if they have been wronged by their religion.... but with jw's it's different...it's an all out and out attack on anyone and everyone who has something positive to say.... makes me believe the bible and the jw's even more...being here is setting the doubt in my mind right....
Violet..
I wish you nothing but happiness in the Watchtower Bible Tract and Zombies Society.
Go for it girl.
I however don't think it would be right if you plan on turning in the time you spend here on your field service report.
