Newbie saying hello and glad to be here
by Calico_Cat inhello, i've been lurking the board for quite sometime now and i have also read crisis of conscience.
my hubby and i stopped attending the meetings since december and had our first christmas in 6 years.
it was fun although the feelings of guilt are still within us.. we've been visited by the elders twice but we managed to keep them at bay.

SFJ as you said getting bolder and more rude. Well I had an elder spit as I walked past him how about that. Shocked as I was I spit right back at him. Not a new elder at that but one in there about 30 years. These are angry and hurt people knowing full well the lies handed to them which they in turn to remain faithful must continue the same pattern of deceitefulness. nojw

Will You Make Room for Pioneering?

was a brilliant move.. the prestige, status and few little perks associated with those committing to being full-time workers is miniscule compensation for their sacrifice of time, lifestyle, income and educational opportunities.. yes, the hour requirements have dropped on several occasions.
how many on the board know that the regular pioneer requirement was once 150 hours a month, then 1200 hours a year, than 1000, now 90-vacation/assembly time?.

I"m still trying to find where in the bible Jesus called himself a pioneer is that word pioneer found in the bible? Now Lewis and Clark, Davey C. seems to fit the title as pioneer. Not when you step out of a KH or car, and say I am pioneering. Just struck my funny bone... now

Song of Solomon - YEAH BABY

despite using the nwt, which butchers most biblical poetry to admiration, i was nevertheless struck its beauty.
if you haven't read it, it is about a shepherd's love for one of solomon's concubines, and it evokes a delicious, aching, tantalising, desire - yup really.

Should My Mother Shun My Daughter?
by Englishman ini don't know why i never spotted this before, but my daughter from my first marriage has just pointed out to me that her grandmother - my jw mother - has never ever contacted her since she was a child.
how would her grandmother respond if she - my daughter - made some contact?.
my first response was to say that i'm sure she would be delighted to hear from her, but then i got to wondering.

Hi Englishman, when I read your post it touched home base for me. My daughter is the same as yours, never baptized, situation is when mom and dad left, she was shunned also by grandma, on hubbys side it been years now she si used to it. But that is and always will be a hugh torn in my paw. If I new then what I know now never,ever would we have made such a choice of becoming Jw. As far as shunning goes it medically damaging to any individual especially little ones envolved in their cruel acts of so called love. grrrrrrr. nojw

SAVING SEATS
by Amazing intaking a brief break from my 'deceptive jw elders' series, i thought about conventions and recalled the annual exhortation from the congregation service meetings and the kingdom ministry about not saving seats.. in the early 1970s, my wife was pregnant with our second child.
we were attending the disctrict convention at the oakland, california coliseum where the oakland raiders and oakland a's teams play.
the stadium hold about 70,000 give or take 5,000 with extra seats on the field.. during the summer in the bay area, sitting all day in the sun listening to speakers you can barely understand due to planes flying overhead, poor sound system, and crying babies, becomes a tortureous event.
