Well, considering the fact that possibly hundreds of thousands (even a million?) of JW's are janitors, window-washers, and cleaners, it would be a disgrace if they DIDN'T leave the place super-clean! Of course, I too shied away from the cleaning section; I was too busy peeling out of the parking lot to get to the hotel...

Memorable Prayers meetings / assemblies???
by invisible inany outstanding prayers that you can remember / recall?.
we had one brother here who was renowned for his very long prayers, sometimes running to as much as 15 minutes in length.
congregational members would have to leave halfway through to catch taxi's etc, he was a dear old soul though, in his younger days before he kicked the bucket, he was a wheelwright, probaly one of the last of his particular craft, repairing horse drawn carriages.. another brother at the convention was known for the shortest prayer, he just said thankyou 3 times and that was it.. once we had the co visiting, george hilton his name was, cheerful old sod from yorkshire, it was the aux pio and reg pio meeting.

Clapping on the last talk at a DC, oh yes....
One year the audience was doing the clap-a-thon thing, practically after every sentence the guy said. Then, the speaker stated something to the effect that "300 JW's have been imprisoned in such-and-such a country". And, like robots on command, the audience applauded that...
Makes me want to jump up and SCREAM

My Sister's At Bethel Right Now
by bluesapphire inwonder if she'll have to be face to face with the three new york articles that came out today.. i'm crossing my fingers and praying.
she's a sociologist (believe it or not) and knows about social issues.
just that she says "talk to the hand" whenever anything is negative about dubs.. but this -- this she wont be able to ignore.

by NotBlind ini just saw bill bowen on a television spot on wpsd tv out of paducah, kentucky.

Since the story was a local one done by the local affiliate, it probably won't run in other areas. Dateline, of course, will be aired nationwide. The story was aired again at 10:00, but in an abbreviated format. This time, though, an interesting tidbit was added. The report stated that Bill 'expects to be excommunicated'.
It should be interesting to see what the media says, oh, Saturday, after the kangaroo court meets. I'm curious to see what the public backlash will be if people find out the WTS throws out people who try to blow the whistle on child molesters.
The WTS is making a huge mistake - I can only imagine what the P.R. department in Brooklyn is thinking right now - they're probably having a hemorrhage over what's about to burst forth...

4 Reasons Why WTS is Doomed
by metatron inreason #1 they are losing (if not lost already) the next.
generation of young witnesses.
leading a double life.

Over the last five years, it seems like the WTS just can't get people excited like they used to. When they used to say "let's all Auxiliary Pioneer!" people actually used to get excited about it. Not anymore.
When they used to say "Attend all the meetings cuz they're all important and interesting!" people used to obey. Not anymore. They don't give a rip about going to the Isaiah book study or going to the WT study so they can parrot back the answers that were just read to them.
When the WT used to say "Go out in service every weekend - both Saturday and Sunday!" people used to do it. Not anymore. Around here, just a handful show up on Saturday. And people couldn't care less about going door-knocking on Sundays.
People are getting tired of it. People have to work 40+ hours a week, and the WT higher-ups just don't get it. When they see a C.O. who has his big swanky car bought & paid for by the brothers roll into town and criticize the R&F for not going out in service more and for not presenting the offer for the month, the people get tired. Sick and tired.
The WT will always have some die-hards, but so will Fascism. Uh, hold on, is that redundant?

Public Talks
by radar inpublic talks .
here is a list of talks that was spoon fed to the congregation in 1998.. for some reason there was no talk number 100 back then.. but can you spot which talk that is missing from the list, the one that should have never been missing from the list for jws?
it is still not on the list even today.. and do you know why?
-
NotBlind
Sorry guys, but you need to update your list...
This list is about 5 years old. There is a talk 100, and there is a talk about blood.
#100 - True Love for God and Neighbor
#135 - The Sanctity of Life and Blood.I'll give you the names for #125 through #152 when I can find them.

Stop counting time
by Elsewhere inmost jws are guilted/coerced into going into the ministry by the time requirements.
i can't help but wonder how much time the average jw would spend in the ministry work if the time requirements were dropped.. i know that the only reason i went into field service was because i didnt want the elders coming and counseling me... that was until i figured out how to use theocratic warfare on my time sheet.
any thoughts on this?.
-
NotBlind
Out of the billion or so hours 'put in' by the dub pubs, how many of it is actually spent in their ministry? I bet most pad their figures, at least a little bit.
And to answer the question, if they quit turning in time slips, I wouldn't go out banging on doors. And that's why WTS will always require it, even tho' it isn't Scriptural.

Watchtower leadership say We Don't Make Rules!
by ozziepost inan announcement on the official web-site of jehovah's witnesses is causing some 'eyebrows to be raised'.. the watchtower society have announced that they "avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the scriptures, and they do not follow traditions that contradict bible teachings.
emphasis is placed on personal application of bible principles and the value of a sound, bible-based conscience.. this comes as a surprise to many thousands in the jehovah's witness community who have become accustomed to the changing rules and regulations imposed compulsorily on its members.. it should be noted in the watchtower society's statement that "emphasis is placed on personal application of bible principles".
this will come as a surprise to many of its members.

Here's a brief quote from CoC, page 328:
Albert Schroder's talk focused on the subject of organization. He spoke about our "finely tuned organization" and how certain ones who seemed to feel that they couldn't go along with its rules and regulations "ought to be leaving and not be involved in the further progressive work here." (The publication BRANCH ORGANIZATION was held up to illustrate how "finely tuned" the organization was, and he said that this publication contained over 1,000 rules and regulations regarding the operations of the Branches and the Brooklyn headquarters.)
Looks like the good 'ol boys in PR aren't telling us the whole story, are they? -

I'm 55 pages into C of C
by DanTheMan inamazed, dumbfounded, flabbergasted are adjectives that only begin to describe my emotions as i learn about the inner workings of the borg during ray's time.
the flip-flops on oral sex (as if it was any of their business to begin with), are simply...i can't even say it - unbelievable.
the sheer cold arrogance of it all.

I found that both of Ray's books were real page-turners, hard to put down. The highlight of COC, for me anyway, were the two chapters "Point of Decision" and "Aftermath". These helped put the actions of the organization into perspective. It also helps put some personality to the otherwise nameless faces I had always heard about on the GB.
