Ignoranceisbliss, I am also skeptical of conspiracy theories. Most of what has been posted here is possible, but I'm in favor of a simpler answer as well. 80 year old COBEs and 70 year old COs are not going to cut the muster anymore, in a world of streaming videos and electronic communications. The WTS has surprisingly embraced technology because it drops their operating costs like nothing else can, and these old guys are probably resistant to the technology or the Borg thinks they are not tech savvy enough to keep up even if they wanted to. The same goes for DOs since most of them seem to be pretty old. Plus with the DOs, someone at World HQ woke up one morning and had the brainstorm that the DOs job was completely superfluous. That was the easiest decision they ever made. All of these decisions have been made without considering the human element (the heartbreak of ending careers for people who have given their lives to a cause), but that's the way big corporations operate, whose only consideration is the bottom line.

Why the Clean out of top Management
by Poztate init has been commented here that "soon" the do's will be history.
the co level will be "retired" at age 70 and the latest development was that the cobe can not serve after age 80. it would seem that there is a "cull" of top management.
in secular companys that would signal a radical change of directions ???.

QFR August 15, 2014 - Resurrection and Marriage
by wisdomfrombelow inthe article addressed luke 20:34-36 and now they finally admit jesus could have been referring to the heavenly resurrection.
they said "put simply, the answer is that we cannot say" which is surprising because they have something to say about everything.
perhaps all the old people who are waiting the new world as widow and widowers want to know if they have a chance to be reunited with their dead loved one.

Thank you Splash! I love it when someone compiles a list of the Society's doctrinal flip flops like you just did. How could anyone be so naive as to think these guys have the "truth"?

Letter to BOE: Adjustment in process for appointing elders and ministerial servants

Is it possible that this is another change based primarily upon finances? 110,000 congregations worldwide, averaging let's say 1 elder or ministerial servant appointment per year = 110,000 appointments to process. It's true that it is nothing more than a rubber stamp, but they do have to process the paperwork from the CO or congregation who submitted the recommendation, spit out a S-52 and a S-2 form to the congregation, and later mail a stamped copy of it to the congregation, and transfer the appointment to the database on jw.org. Worldwide maybe that doesn't require more than a few dozen people to handle all of this, but with this new "arrangement", the cost to the organization goes down to almost zero. The COs are already on the "payroll", so why not pile as much work on them as possible and make them earn those Buicks they drive?

Watchtower Society vs. General Motors
by Socrateswannabe inwhat is the difference between the watchtower society and general motors?
even with its recent coverup of a deadly defect in the ignition system of one of its car models, gm may be more ethical and its leaders more scrupulous than the watchtower--at they lease they are no worse.
i don't see any difference in how the society is run than a major corporation anyway.

On a corporate level it is all about results regardless of the price that people have to pay, and that trickles down on a congregation level. Your thoughts?

This generation and a key weasel word
by Socrateswannabe inin this past sunday's watchtower lesson, which has been discussed at length on this board, the gb/writing committee used a key weasal word that we will probably see again.
the exact quote is: "we understand that in mentioning 'this generation,' jesus was referring to two groups of anointed christians.".
this goofy teaching is merely a patch until they can devise something more plausible, or until some event occurs that they can latch onto that will make this teaching more acceptable to the r&f.

Yeah LG3, I agree with you (and the rest of the commentors on this post). When I first saw the "we love this teaching" quote on this board, I was skeptical as to whether it was legit. Then I went to jw.org a couple of weeks after the annual meeting that year, and lo and behold there was a video of Stephen Lett saying those very words as he rolled this mickey mouse teaching out for the crowd. Hell yeah they love it! It buys them 20 or 30 more years!

This goofy teaching is merely a patch until they can devise something more plausible, or until some event occurs that they can latch onto that will make this teaching more acceptable to the R&F. I have no idea what that might be but my guess is that they just tossed up a hail mary pass to try to buy themselves more time. One of the GB--I believe it was Lett--in rolling this out said, "We LOVE this teaching!" In other words, "For the moment it suits our purposes perfectly!"
At some point we'll read that this was only their "understanding" and that they did not claim that it was divine inspiration, so now HERE is generation teaching number SIX, which is of course the REAL explanation of this text!

Since when have these guys been so anxious to get their facts straight that they are willing to risk a scandal to belong to an organization, just for its lending library?

I appreciate that Data-Dog posted the link because it shows that JWN had this news long before the Dubs released it. Kind of "builds my faith" in JWN!

BOE: Kaboom to DOs

dear brothers:.
march 20, 2014. we are pleased to inform you of a significant decision made by the governing body that will affect the work of traveling overseers worldwide.

Why would they be "pleased" to inform us? Usually when a for-profit organization announces a round of layoffs or otherwise disrupts the lives of their employees, they at least make a pretense of regret that it has to be done. But these guys say they are "pleased".

The first step toward apostasy
by Socrateswannabe in"the first step toward apostasy is a drop in field service activity.
i have read that statement in wts publications and heard it many times from the platform.
i haven't studied philosphy so i'm not sure what type of logical fallacy this is an example of, but it is one for sure.

Problemaddict, thanks for explaining this as the "slippery slope" fallacy. I couldn't figure that one out myself but it sounds right.
Moderators, how can I get the post from AlphaMan removed? I believe in freedom of speech but that is ridiculous. I don't believe that is quite up to JWN standards.
