Hahaha You guys are so funny! I just remembered another one. Many years ago young teenager (not overly bright but who oozed inappropriate sexuality) volunteered to read a scripture at the book study. It was prov. 14:30 She read "A calm heart is the life of the fleshly orgasm." All of us had to bite our lips to keep fom LOL!

What is the stupidest comment you ever heard at a meeting?
by 3rdgen ina very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.
needless to say, he had everyone's attention.
he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.

Ridiculous elder ideas and rules
by Juan Viejo2 inin an earlier thread, i went off topic for a moment to share excerpts from an email i received from an active sister living in the midwest usa.
she mentioned that the elders in her congregations were extremely conservative and criticized the flock for using certain colors of highlighters in their magazines.
she also reported that they were all over the sisters for wearing stylish boots or tennis shoes during the winter months.. i know that some elder groups can be very liberal, supportive and loving toward their flocks - while others are exactly opposite to the point that they become overbearing and oppressive.. what have you experienced as far as ridiculous, over-the-top rules and ideas enforced by local elders?.

OODAD, ROTFL!!!! Your earlier posts on this thread are so funny because they are soooo true! (Think Seinfield) I've observed most of these ridiculous rules in former congs (excepy the colored markers) THAT one gets my Jackass award for all time most ridiculous! I have one more to add by the CO (this one was made for ALL congs in his circuit): "no child under high school age is allowed to go to the bathroom without being accompanied by a parent." I kid you not, it seems someone had strewn toilet paper on the foor a left a big dugan in the toilet. So he made the rule. I saw parents escort kids as tall as they were to the bathrooms. Tallk about disruptive! (I refused to cooperate with this one).

WT Society Appoints Elders/MS Based on " Functions " Performed - not ....
by flipper in........... holy spirit or any " fruitages of the spirit " like love, kindness, mildness, meekness , etc.
shown by men considered for elder or ms positions.
qualities or true positive character traits are not that important to the wt society in appointments of these men in jw congregations.. no, the real " qualifications " that a jw man needs to exhibit is being able to report 10 hours a month in knocking on people's doors offering wt and awake magazines !

Sorry, one more thought, It has been shown on other threads that many servants lie on their time slips. Elders inevitabally become privy to each other's wrongdoing(as well as their family's)It's ESSENTIAL that they can trust the others to keep all the dirty secrets. Consequently, rather than the cream rising to the top it is often the dregs.

To karter: OMG?????!!!!!! How "mentally diseased" is the wife who would stay with a perve like that?? To undercover: Do NOT sell yourself short. You were most likely TOO intelligent for the "good ole' boys" comfort. After all, you're out-right? As a whole, I've noticed in my short time here that most posters are extremely bright and insightful. Having the right connections gives a brother a "leg up" for being appointed. However being astute is not always a plus. For instance, i know a couple of brothers (one is menza)who were passed over for years because they had more knowledge of the Bible and the WT publications than the elders. They felt threatened ....so of course no appointments until the CO forced it. Also,if the bro EVER points out an error made by an elder... Forget it . he can't be trusted.

Trueblue, My comment above is for you. Also want you to know I'm very sorry for your loss and the additional pain others caused you. For cantleave it just so happens thats how my son died. My son was preparing for baptism and attending all the meetings but we weren't allowed to have the memorial at the KH. Now I'm glad we didn't.
