Becoming "unevenly yoked" ?
by Blttex ini haven't been to a meeting in about a year, made up my mind about six months ago that jw's are just another religion and that its not for me.
started dating a "worldly" girl 10 months ago and got engaged this past weekend.
i'm having a hard time deciding who to invite to the wedding.

Some have decided to elope then have a party/reception later in a few days or weeks. Others decide to have the wedding at the reception venue. This eliminates the KH issues and is more convient for the guests. Only invite those who you REALLY want to be there. If some object, they aren't your real friends or family.

The happiest people on earth... Yeah right
by Bells ini am looking for some advice - or maybe just some moral support.. i can't find the link to my previous thread... but in a nutshell... husband and i got married a couple months ago after 10 or so years together.
he was never baptised, but grew up 'in'.
i never had any exposure to the craziness til i met him and his family.

Hello Bells, My observation is that yes, JW's are gleeful when catastrophic events happen to "worldly" folks. The larger the better. These things make them feel like the big A is sooooooooo close. I'm sorry you are dealing with this disfunctional family. Your husband's first loyalty needs to be to YOU. Otherwise your marriage won't really work. Even the Bible backs this up. "This is why a man will LEAVE his father and his mother and the two of you will become one flesh"

classification of Jehovahs Witness members by when they joined up
by besty injust got to thinking how long can the watchtower peddle the 'soon' story with any credibility?.
i would say there are the oldtimer or born ins in the 70+ age group - they possibly remember the 2nd world war, and maybe joined for 1975 or made life affecting decisions meaning they are so commited with 'nowhere else to go' that they have surrendered to the resurrection hope.. then you have the '1986 international year of peace, the 1914+70 year' generation crowd.
people in their 40s and 50s now.

LostGeneration, I think we are on the same wavelength. IMHO it doesn't matter whether "sooooon" works for ALL. There are enough breeders in the borg to keep this cult going because it is a matter of numbers now. Even if 2/3 leave, 1/3 will keep procreating (sp?) (having babies) who they teach to be JWS. The "base" is already in place.

How long "soon" will work for young people is anyones guess. What saddens me is that most of the 25-35 year old former friends of my kids are still active and married to JWs. Many have babies and small children who they are raising to become still another generation of little robots. One couple joined the ASL cong. The young mother proudly showed off her baby signing Jehovah etc. Several other couples have joined forign language congs. At least 6 that I know of actually moved abroad to go where the "need is great".

what is the main party line proclaimed in the publications?
is it not always be grateful for the spiritual food provided by the corporations deity called the faithful and discreet slave, and publicly decared to be faithful forever.

Whenever I pose questions like this to my Dubbie MIL her answer is ALWAYS: Jehovah has ALLOWed (fill in the injustice) and it serves as a test for us. I always say If Jehovah can read hearts why the test? She then, becomes upset and says don't say ANY MORE!!!

Your Baptism
by Aunt Fancy inwe have been going through our literature and throwing away a lot of it which feels great.
my hubby came cross the program from my baptism in 1986. the divine peace dc held in the astrodome in houston, tx.
he always wrote the attendance and the amount baptized so on that day there were 30,894 in attendance nd 531 baptized!

I was baptised 1964 at barely 12 years old during a circuit assembly at the fairgrounds. The baptism was held at a local kingdom Hall where they had pushed the chairs to the wall and put a doughboy pool in the middle of the room! About 7 were immersed and only about 30 showed up to observe. Afterward, no fanfare whatsoever. My parents treated it as though I was merely doing what I was supposed to do. (kinda like making my bed.) Edit to add: This was before the pre- baptism questions were asked. Does this mean my baptism was also not valid???

Hi all
by Saltheart Foamfollower infirstly, love and greetings to all - i've been lurking here and elsewhere for a long time and have benefitted more than i can say.
i'm still in - i have a genuine fear that coming out would kill my mother - but i've recently taken the first step away.
i told a non-jw friend that i knew it was all a load of nonsense and i didn't believe any of it.

Wlcome Saltheart! Hubby and I have faded but can't come out and do and say what we want because of his elderly mother. She and her JW family have always sidestepped many of the rules yet now that she is old, she acts like the church lady. Go figureAll the best to you.
