  My sister died

  just got word that my sister died.

  she had surgery for heart valve replacement about 5 weeks ago, and when they opened her up for it they found cancer.

  we had an extra special relationship since i was her "birthday present" when she turned 10 in 1951. this is my second sibling to die of cancer in 14 months..

  Poppers, You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of your sister and other sibling. I feel your pain because of similar losses. You have real friends here who care. PM me if you need a listening ear.

  XStuckX, If you and your wife have been letting your kids do extra curricular activites chances are that your family has been the subject of hurtful gossip by the same trolls who gave your wife the dirty looks at the KH. I felt exactly like you growing up in the cult so I let my kids do some things after school. It wasn't untill years later that it got back to me the nasty things that were said behind my back. These people didn't even have the guts to tell me to my face. I'm so glad you are making a clean break from the madness!

  Guns

  does anyone know why people say as jws you can't have guns.

  i've asked people at the hall and they say jws aren't supposed to have guns.

  i asked them why, and they all say just because we're not supposed to.

  There are a lot of bros who have guns for hunting but some who have protection wepons get heat and are not considered "exemplary" so are not appointed as servants. In a local cong. few years back a beloved JW family (who I knew and loved) with identical twin sons in their late teens suffered a horrific tragidy. The boys were in their room goofing off with a family gun. One twin accidently killed the other. It was all over the news. So VERY sad. The incident has probably has caused the elders to clamp down on gun owners.

  Did you think Dinosaurs were destroyed in the Flood?

  in our jw bible, they placed a friendly dinosaur on the inside front cover on the old time map of the middle east.. you look at that, and see where the placement to where the garden of eden is and that was the image i got in my mind.

  dinosaurs lived, but were too big to save in the flood, and besides they had outlived their purpose of fertilizing the earth.

  i feel stupid for the thinking i had when i was 'in'.. is that how you 'thought' when you were 'in'?.

  My parents taught me that the dinosaurs were destroyed in the flood. They said it with conviction so I took it as fact. Mom had a little trouble using the Bible to prove that each of the creative days were exactly 7000 years long. I wasn't completely convinced but since Armageddon was coming any day I didn't think it really mattered.

  Christmas Songs?

  there are certain songs sung at christmas time that have nothing whatsoever to do with christmas.

  i've been reading lyrics lately to make sure, then i make comments to my uber-jw wife, who really, really hates what i'm saying.

  for example, the song, "let it snow" has nothing to do with christmas.
