Flipper nailed it. A brainwashed wife is proud when her husband attends, comments, holds a position etc. and she is respected by the rest of the cong more than a sister who comes alone. Even her social life is affected. Pretty soon invitations to dinner will dry up. Where is her niche? She's not part of a JW couple anymore but she isn't single either. Now she has the lowest possible statis in the cong. A real letdown. Also, the moral support of being driven to the meetings by your husband and having him help with the kids makes meetings much easier. If your wife sees another sister at the meeting whose husband has his arm around her shoulder she will feel like crying. Lets face it- MEETINGS SUCK they are much better when you have your mate.

OUB, LOL! Something else that is likely going through your wife's mind adding to her frustration is: Since Armageddon could come at any time, and since their father is being disobedient to Jehovah's channel, and since children who are not baptized can only be spared destruction by the merits of the BELIEVING/ACTIVE JW, Their survival now falls 100% on me. (At least that is what was taught when I was in.) So this belief forced me even deeper into the cult as I felt being a JW was like getting my children on the ark. It also made me mad at my hubby for dumping his half of the responsibility on me. Unless she realizes that God did not pick J Rutherford to be the modern day FDS in 1919, or that works = salvation there will be frustration. A question that helped me to wake up was simply "What year was it (JW's) the truth?"

When my 1st husband drifted farther and farther away from "the truth" I am ashamed to admit I acted like your wife. Remember the WBT$ is constantly bombarding the flock with the idea they are never doing enough and that the family head is responsible "to provide for the family" spiritally even before materally. This is where the idea originates. Since a female JW is taught she must be "in subjection to her husband in EVERTHING" I figured he was required to be "taking the lead" in ALL forms of JW worship. Remember too, that when she attends the meetings and FS she is PESTERED with the question: "Where is your hubby?" Mates are constantly put on the defensive when their spouse misses. I became tired of making up acceptable excuses for his absence. Afterwhile I resented my ex for putting me in that position. I started to think I never would have married him if he weren't a JW what else do we have in common? Now that you know WHY she is frustrated. You must now emphasise what, besides religion, draws you to each other and make that your focus. Help your wife come up with a funny answer to tell the busybodies at the KH who ask why you aren't at the meeting like: He dosn't like you anymore LOL" or "He has ebola LOL" Best of luck.

Congratulations Billy!!! You are such an inspiration. I want you to know how much your posts helped hubby and me to wake up 3 years ago. Your humor also helped us not to wallow in grief over the fact that we had wasted so much of our lives in mental captivity. We wish only the best for you and hope you won't be a stranger here.

I mentioned on another thread that I have seen several episodes of The Last Ship. I wanted to love it but for some reason I'm not exactly sure of, I don't. The movie Outbreak starring Dustin Hoffman was very good IMO.

@Blondie, Yes, I have seen several episodes of "The Last Ship" on TNT network. I was kinda forced to because my daughter was dating Travis Van Winkle (who plays one of the handsome crew members). I wanted to love it but I found the writing a little disappointing. What about the movie "Outbreak" from the 90's starring Dustin Hoffman? I thought that one was well done.

Does money buy happiness and a longer life? You decide...
by Brock Talon ini poured over time magazine's sep 8-15 2014 edition article "who we are" and put together this spreadsheet on the results from their poll.
i found the statistics quite fascinating.. most people would say that "money doesn't buy happiness", but this poll seems to me to indicate the exact opposite of that.
it also correlates education levels with higher earning that result in that happiness.

This subject has so many factors. The very old story of The Prince and the Pauper comes to mind. The young prince was wealthy but forced to live in a way that cramped his freedom and he wasn't happy. He didn't appreciate what he had. The young pauper was not happy either because while he was free to do what he wanted, couldn't because he was an orphan (if I remember right) and had to live on the streets without his basic needs met. He was forced to steal just to eat. I also think of the book and movie "Mommie Dearest" the autobiography about the wealthy actress Joan Crawford's daughter Christina. If true, was a victlm of terrible child abuse and regardless of her luxurious suroundings, was VERY unhappy. We all probably all know others who are/were dirt poor but have/had loving close families and were happy. Dolly Parton comes to mind. She wrote a song about her "Coat of Many Colors". When she was young her mother took old rags and made a pachwork coat for her. She told Dolly the Bible story of Joseph's coat of many colors and blessed it with a kiss. She was so thrilled until the kids at school made fun of it. Mean people suck and can ruin our happiness if we let them.
