To My Generation: Jehovah's Witnesses of the Vietnam War Era
by Hold Me-Thrill Me into my generation: jehovah's witnesses of the vietnam war era .
if you were a young brother in the late 60's you then remember the burden of the draft and the prospect of going to jail for refusing on religious grounds to be called up.
in those days we were taught that to do community service was conscientiously the same as joining the military and so we were told to refuse such exemptions.

Damned if they do, Damned if they don't
by FusionTheism ini see an attitude among some people here which is not very helpful.
i can understand it, but still, it's not constructive or helpful.. if you condemn the society for not changing, but then you also condemn them when they do change in a positive way, what incentive or motive does that provide for the people at the society to ever want to change for the better?.
also, what does that attitude look like to current witnesses who are having doubts?.

FT asks, "What exactly is it that you WANT the Society to do?"
A fair enough question for a true believer (assuming he can reconcile being disobedient to the GB by being on this site)
First I want them to explain why the Holy Spirit (that according to them issues forth from Jehovah himself and has been directing the organization since the outset) has been either unwilling or unable to "get it right".
For instance, Types/antitypes. Why would the Holy Spirit direct the WBTS to state as fact their various interpretations both orally and in print to be studied and re studied, then reveal to them that those same interpretations were wrong and pretty much ditch the whole concept?
JW's teach that the Holy Spirit is NOT part of a Trinity or a personage but issues forth from Jehovah and to a lesser extent, Jesus and sometimes the angels. How could Holy Spirit issuing out of perfect Spirits be wrong? Repeatedly? Who or what Spirit (according to Bible and Watctower) is the father of the lie? What kind of spirit would intentionally Make Jehovah's Witnesses and by extension Jehovah look foolish by being wrong over and over again?
The other thing I want them to do is: Leave me alone.

17 year old son is blaming me for ruining his life from the Cult. He's complaining "I could have been a high school sports star!"
by PhilsWager2 inyou know about my not-so-ugly divorce and how me and my wife found out the religion is false.
she still attends while my 17 year old has been raging on me about all the wasted time he suffered from by being in this religion.
he think's his life is ruined, very angry we did not learn this was a cult earlier(he was 14 when he stopped attending after reading the revelation book, he said "in all time and history, how could a trumpet blown in revelation have anything to do with a jw bible student convention statement"?.

I want to clarify that even though I think it's a good idea to apologize ONCE for the errors and omissions we made as JW parents, I DON'T mean grovel. I also explained that I would have given my eye teeth if either of my parents would have had the humility to tell me they were sorry for their serious mistakes. That being said......
Had my daughter not immediately accepted that I was motivated by love, had her best interests at heart, and was under B.I.T.E. control, I would have reminded her that she is NOW free to pursue the skills and talents she has, take responsibility for her life, and and drop the attitude.

Phil, I know it's tempting to tell him to be glad he wasn't older when he learned TTATT and quitchourbellyackin', but 17 yo's don't respond well to that approach. Remember how you felt when your parents said things like, "You think you got it rough, let me tell you about when I was a kid......"
Like NewYork44, I apologized to my daughter for raising her in a cult. Then I specifically mentioned things and events I said "no" to that I should have allowed and that I feel terrible for depriving her of the joy they could have brought. I explained that my mindset was that I was trying to save her life. (like not letting her play in the street) Her reaction was "Mom, you were only doing what you thought was right." Please note though, she was 10 years older than your son at the time.
If you sincerely apologize, in time your son will forgive.

Updated Chronological Timeline of the Great Tribulation -- after the New Light from July Watchtower
by FusionTheism inthe july 15, 2015 study watchtower article entitled "your deliverance is getting near", along with the jw broadcasting video entitled "gerrit losch: fortified by "the prophetic word," and chapter 21 of the god's kingdom rules!
book presented a large amount of new light or clarified understanding of the events of the great tribulation.. here i am presenting it in chronological order -- this is the governing body's updated chronological order of events for the time right before the great tribulation through armageddon:.
the final sealing of the anointed occurs just prior to the outbreak of the tribulation.

Vidiot, Glad you asked LOL
Watchtower has weeded out some of that possibility by having those with "bad desires" including "bad JWs" killed off at Armageddon. Those who are resurrected or born after the big A or anyone else who develop "bad desires" are taught the "ways of Jehovah" and are given time to change. Those who want to, then magically only have "good" desires. Those who don't are killed poof, no need to wait till the final test after the 1,000 years.
Where does it say this in the Bible? Glad you asked. It doesn't. This information is available in a more reliable source- the Watchtower. I read all of the above info there so it HAS to be right. Unless, of course, there is NU LITe.

Gotta hand it to Watchtower. The "Spiritual food" they serve to the flock contains the perfect combination of EXCITEMENT (peace and security announcement/s followed by preaching "the message of doom"
FEAR (Gog of Magog turns on JWs attempting to annihilate them. Then Jesus intervenes to save them and destroy the rest of human life. Better not be on the wrong side at that time!
Greed (The reward= the 1,000 reign of Christ. The paradise, Pet lions and pandas, turning young and beautiful, having EVERY desire satisfied FOREVER
It all may be spiritual junk food but it tastes like Coka Cola and for some is addicting.

Hi Cog, I like the idea of becoming more and more incompetent/unqualified for the MS "position". If you quit suddenly your wife may try to compensate for you by becoming "stronger in the truth"-especially if you have kids.
OTOH, if you mess up your duties and report little to no FS you will be removed. This, if you play it right, will make your wife's protective instincts come out. She will become mad at the elders/CO for treating you poorly when you needed their help. :)

Welfare and Witnesses
by adjusted knowledge ini'm ignorant to the social welfare programs outside the us, but listening to others i have to assume in europe it is more generous.
i've not had deep personal conversation with active witnesses for nearly 20 years.
last year i made contact with a family and some elders came to my house.

@Steve2 I doubt that the WTBT$ has addressed your question in writing but I can relate this personal experience
3 letters written to HQ over a period of a year and hand delivered to a GB member requesting repayment of a loan given to them from my 90+ yo faithful widowed mother who needed her money back to pay for her care at the rest home. We received no answer. Hubby then used his Bethel connections to talk to the "desk" about the matter. The "Brother" in charge acknowledged the letters, then gave the official verbal answer. "Put her on "Welfare".
