"Big enough" to one person is not big enough for others. Some times the "mistake" has to hit directly on the head. It wasn't until my elderly widowed mother was treated discracefully by the WT$ that I started to wake up.

Troubled Mind, Yes, for sure the WT$ softened their stance on corporal punishment in the 80's because many were being arrested right at the KH. Horrified neighbors were hearing the screams of babys and toddlers and rightly called the police. Too bad it didn't come sooner!
I was born in the early 50's. My first memories are of driving home from the kingdom Hell in convultions because my father told me I was going to "get it" Beating a toddler with a belt for something he can"t understand or accomplish plays with a childs mind and self esteem. If my mother had been physically abusive I simply would have left when I got older. My indoctrination was more COMPLEX than that. Mom used frightening scriptures, Bible storys, and scary WT$ pictures to make her points. Fear of displeasing Jehovah overode all common sense as I grew older.
Family tradition played a big part as well. Being 3rd generation on both sides, my parents curtailed all association with non JWs. We seemed like a big happy family on the surface. However, My 20 yr older half- brother was completly DISOWNED simply because he was not a believer. That was not lost on me. In addition to the punishments they used rewards too. I was told that if I chose to Pioneer when out of HS I could stay at home and have ALL EXPENSES PAID indefinately! The carrot and the stick constantly. Result?
Baptism at 12 , marriage at 17, believer till nearly 60. Another WT$ sucess story

JRK. OMG!!!! I was baptized at 12, married at 17. My parents were die hard JW's. Saw NOTHING wrong about it. I would NEVER let a child of mine enter those life changing contracts.

DO YOU BELIEVE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES "SHUNNING" OF MINORS IS CHILD ABUSE?
by Balaamsass ini have been reading countless heartbreaking accounts on this site of children of jehovah's witnesses being "disfellowshipped" and shunned by entire families, their congregations, basicly everyone they have ever known for simply questioning their parent's religion!!.
some have been tossed out of family homes to live in cars!!!
this is not christian.

How big a fee does the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society get for booking Jehovah's Witnesses into Convention Hotels?
by Balaamsass incurious.
i know travel agents and on-line sites get a kickback or fee for booking hotels.
how much is this fee?.

So if the WT$ is not willing to accept a "mere" 10% undoubtedly they're receiving more. WOW

Well, that would be rich if the WT$ actually got half of what you estimate the "kickback" COULD be. $140,000,000 would be some sweet bonus. I got fed up trying to figure out why the "good" (meaning good room fair price near the assem, site) rooms were gone the first day the list came out. Cheesy rooms at the same price as much nicer much closer rooms made me scratch my head. FINALLY it makes sense if the "kickback" was in play! Never was it more obvious than in Reno, Nv. Rooms at Circus Circus were $39 but not on the list, instead we were supposed to stay at rickety old motels far away for $79. What a SCAM!!!
