The Menlo Park debacle was the tipping point that slapped hubby and me upside the head and woke us up! This issue is important for all lurkers to examine. Does it make sense that Jehovah would use his spirit to direct His organization to defraud the poor, elderly, widows, and the rest of his little sheep? How would Jesus view fleecing the flock?

20Just wanting clarification on the RBC
by joe134cd ini have been reading threads about how the rbc operates, so i sort of have a fair idea of what the answers will be.
but i would like to have a more direct answer to my questions.. where do the orders come from that a hall is in need of a remodel, or a new one to be built.. can the elders refuse a remodel or quickly built.. out side contractors are only allowed with rbc approval.
what are the consequences if say a kh needed a new roof, and secular contractor was hired.. is it a case that orders a given that a hall needs a remodel, and that the rbc will have total control, and look out for who ever gets in the way, and elders just have to simply comply.. this is the question i most want answered.

As an adult I am not ashamed as I realize I couldn't choose to be born into a cult. Steve Hassan made me understand the mind control we were bombarded with at every meeting and publication. However, as a child I was MORTIFIED more than once. I would often wish to God this wierd religion I belonged to was not the "truth".

Ben, whether or not these men are appointed by Holy Spirit would you place your life in their hands? I was always taught that the Elders are the ones that we would have to depend on in case of persecution and/or protect and guide us through the "Great tribulation". If appointments depend on appearences then do you feel lucky?

The Pastor of my Old Church Tried to Re-Convert Me Yesterday

I had a close JW friend in High school whose father was handsome, smart, and wealthy. He was a captivating speaker and an appointed servant. Nobody was sure what exactly he did for a living but he was out of town a lot for work. Her mother was a beautiful lady with quiet elegance unlike anyone i had seen at a KH. My friend was one of 5 children, 3 still at home. One day sister H******** got a call that her husband had been in a car accident several hundred miles from home. She rushed down there to be by his side. When she arrived at the hospital and said she was Mrs. H looking for her husband, the nurses told her that Mrs H. was ALREADY there. What???? Turns out that this "brother" was a bigamist and had another complete non-JW family!!!Not only that, but it came out that his money came from a furniture theft ring. He had people hijacking furniture trucks and then he would buy the stuff pennies on the dollar then "resale" the merchandise at his store in the Bay area. My frend's mother divorced him and moved out of town taking her kids with her. I always wondered how they turned out.

My Story Part One....My mother's wild hair.

so after being a catholic for my first 12 years we were now apostates............ though neither she nor i realized it at the time.. i think what appealed to my mother was that the two sisters she studied with were very 'refined' they were also nicely dressed and very 'clean'.
i had no idea what the hell she was talking about.

Kinda wierd for Balaamsass and me. All our family are Jws except my daughter who lives very far away. I spent 4 days with her at thanksgiving so won't be able to see her at Christmas. As faders we are stuck. No lights, no tree, no friends. I'll probably cook a turkey or ham for us then go see a movie. I'm sad at this time because I know our familys are having their usual get togethers without us.

How bad is the nepotism really with the appointments of elders?
by toto555 ini've seen brothers related or who are friends of elders who get appointed after only 6-12 months as an m.s.
while they were other brothers slaving away for years.
elders also who promote their sons and basically say to other young brothers "to heck with everyone else".
