I mentioned on another thread that I have seen several episodes of The Last Ship. I wanted to love it but for some reason I'm not exactly sure of, I don't. The movie Outbreak starring Dustin Hoffman was very good IMO.

@Blondie, Yes, I have seen several episodes of "The Last Ship" on TNT network. I was kinda forced to because my daughter was dating Travis Van Winkle (who plays one of the handsome crew members). I wanted to love it but I found the writing a little disappointing. What about the movie "Outbreak" from the 90's starring Dustin Hoffman? I thought that one was well done.

Does money buy happiness and a longer life? You decide...
by Brock Talon ini poured over time magazine's sep 8-15 2014 edition article "who we are" and put together this spreadsheet on the results from their poll.
i found the statistics quite fascinating.. most people would say that "money doesn't buy happiness", but this poll seems to me to indicate the exact opposite of that.
it also correlates education levels with higher earning that result in that happiness.

This subject has so many factors. The very old story of The Prince and the Pauper comes to mind. The young prince was wealthy but forced to live in a way that cramped his freedom and he wasn't happy. He didn't appreciate what he had. The young pauper was not happy either because while he was free to do what he wanted, couldn't because he was an orphan (if I remember right) and had to live on the streets without his basic needs met. He was forced to steal just to eat. I also think of the book and movie "Mommie Dearest" the autobiography about the wealthy actress Joan Crawford's daughter Christina. If true, was a victlm of terrible child abuse and regardless of her luxurious suroundings, was VERY unhappy. We all probably all know others who are/were dirt poor but have/had loving close families and were happy. Dolly Parton comes to mind. She wrote a song about her "Coat of Many Colors". When she was young her mother took old rags and made a pachwork coat for her. She told Dolly the Bible story of Joseph's coat of many colors and blessed it with a kiss. She was so thrilled until the kids at school made fun of it. Mean people suck and can ruin our happiness if we let them.

What are the ODDS Jehovah's Witnesses are the ONLY TRUE religion?
by Terry inthe entire organization shoves all its chips into the center of the table on one bet: they are the only mouthpiece of god on earth.. what are the odds to this bet?.
the statistic for christian denominations make jw's 1 out of 41,000 opinions.. a chance of 1 in 41 thousand is a tough bet.. _________________________.

Terry: "These people are contrarians......." Oh so true! My grandparents (both sides) were attracted to Russell's sort of new age version of Christianity. They saw plenty to dislike in their churches so welcomed something they thought was new and different. Being raised in the enviorment of of the religion being "The Truth" my parents became whole hog followers of Rutherford. By this time (30's and 40's) the religion had morphed into being PURPOSELY offensive so as to cause the persecution they thought identified them as "true Christians". In so doing what kind of people did they convert? MORE assh**es! Those of us born to these strict followers of Rutherford had a miserable childhood. Those of us that didn't rebel, stayed out of fear. The neverending exposure to (as Hassen puts it) B.I.T.E. methods hooked us and kept us mental prisioners.

Will JW rape victims die at Armageddon as apostates?
by Zoos inmany jw victims flee the "truth" after elders have raped them and covered it up.
doctrines aside, there would be no reason for one of these young victims to conclude the watchtower environment is god's arrangement on earth.. does the organization acknowledge this irreparable damage or will it write these victims off as apostates, slated for death at armageddon if they choose to get the hell out?.

Good post Terry. #9 Is interesting to me because my father flew overseas with Knoor a number of times before 1952. (when the vaccination ban was lifted.) They had to have a passport to travel to these countries and they had to have all the required vaccinations to obtain the passport. Smells like hypocracy don't you think? When I was born in '52 I was not given the vaccinations that doctors routinely gave babies. My parents both had passports and were vaccinated but chose to withhold them from me. (more hypocracy) I'm glad "Ceasar" forced the polio vaccine in order to enter shool. When I came down with an unusually severe case of chicken Pox mom was worried that it was smallpox and sheepishly told the doctor that she had failed to have me innoculated. he he
