Psac, you're statement is quite confusing. Are you saying that since evolution can not give us an answer to the beginning of existence that God is the only other option? Or are you saying that comparing evolution to Creationism is pointless BECAUSE evolution doesn't concern the beginning? (which is a false statement by the way)... Or something else?

Effects of the Evolution Theory
by mankkeli ineffects of the evolution theory.
in the early 19th century, religion and science enjoyed a fairly amicable relationship.
just two years before the origin of species was published, biologist and harvard professor louis agassiz wrote that the living world shows premeditation, wisdom, greatness and that a major purpose of natural history was to analyze the thoughts of the creator of the universe.. agassiz viewpoint was not uncommon.

How did plants survive the Flood?
by dgp innoah is not said to have carried plants in his ark.
supposedly the flood was severe enough to cover "even the tallest mountains", which would mean that mount everest was covered.
and this for forty days.

An Old Argument.... does it hold water?
by AK - Jeff inestimates range from 4 million to 15 million children die from starvation each year on this planet.
that's between 500 and 1700 children a day, depending on what numbers you accept.
still, no matter which numbers you use, doesn't this make you arrive at one of the following conclusions?.

How is the OP limited? There is no plausible evidence for the statement that YOU posted, whereas the OP has factual evidence to support it's premise.... how is that limited? .... O_o
And did you just create an argument against yourself? That statement goes your direction as well. If you believe that God IS good/love based on the good/love in the world that HE supposedly created, then wouldn't the image of evil ALSO come from God?

So, sabastious, do you believe that the fact that Noah's global flood is probably just a minor incident that happened in a primitive tribe's area is proof that the Bible is true... or something else? Because I do believe you started a thread concerning the Bible's beauty and it's truth...

The Garden of Eden = The Fertile Crescent? The Bible's Myths...
by TheUbermensch inrecently i've noticed a theory spreading around the scientific/philosophical world that the garden of eden was simply a myth of the fertile crescent.
it's sounds plausible when you actually think about it.
there are multiple different theories concerning it, but the most famous one is that the original hebrews were cast out of the area by a more powerful tribe, and doomed to live in the outside-non-civilized wild world.

It's sounds plausible when you actually think about it. There are multiple different theories concerning it, but the most famous one is that the original Hebrews were cast out of the area by a more powerful tribe, and doomed to live in the outside-non-civilized wild world. By word of mouth a myth was created for why they can't live in the area that contains such great life, and thus Adam and Eve was born (the scapegoats of the Hebrew people). The guards guarding the area (angel with flaming sword can be equated with city guards of the Hittite civilization, who used bronze for their weapons, which gleamed in the sunlight as a vibrant orange) are just city guards, or something of that sort. Then the myth that they must have done something wrong, and thus the idea of original sin... and so on and so forth.
I don't believe in the theory 100%, but it is quite an interesting concept, I had sort of thought about it before, but never put the pieces together. Any other ideas concerning the Bible's myth-like qualities?

1 - If God does not eXist, objective moral values and duties do not eXist 2 - Objective moral values and duties do eXist 3 - Therefore, God eXists
Ahahahah... wait... what? The premise of the first statement is what exactly? Morality was given to us by an invisible creator? Where is the proof of this statement? You realize there are thousands of thousands of thousands of theses and contentions of the origination of morality?
There is a premise for Jeff's original proof, in other words there is some factual understanding that he bases the entire proof off of. The premise is that millions of children and adults die of starvation and natural disaster. Your premise is....... ?????????? So no, they are completely different.

SOG, you realize that Young Earth Creationism can be disproved by simple Astronomy... if the world is less than 10,000 years old, we would not be able to see any stars from more than 10,000 light years away....yet most stars are over 100,000 light years away.

What's This Thing Called Consciousness?
by frankiespeakin inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/consciousness.
vedanta.
according to vedanta, awareness is not a product of physical processes and can be considered under four aspects.

Wow, what an excellent topic.
The ambiguity of consciousness leaves one with three options. Materialism, that the mind is simply neuron activity in the brain, or dualism, where the mind is separated from body (the soul is one concept), or in between. I choose to side with the third option. Both are extreme polar opposites, and both don't explain enough, for instance it is said that materialism can not explain how or why the brain some brain states are conscious... and the other side is dualism faces the problem of explaining how a non-physical substance or mental state can causally interact with the physical body.

Do you not hear us say it is not by our own achievment? Oh look I found something!!!! Big fucking deal. So go find another one fool. But..but.. there isn't another one!
Temper, temper.
By the way N.Drew, Shakespeare was/is not considered a philosopher, he was a playwright/poet.
You realize there are tons of philosophers that believe in God correct? Aquinas, Kierkegaard (you'd really like Kierkegaard, he was a hardcore independent Christian that didn't subscribe to any dogmatic church, or any church at all for that matter).
sizemik, excellent usage of Kant's genius.

Philosophy defined. Investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality, knowledge or values based on logical reasoning.
Did I say to go to school for philosophy? I asked if you studied it. You can study it on your own... you realize that right? I just find it hilarious that someone who can't even piece together cohesive sentences is trying to tell us what a name means in the philosophical area of study.
Who are some of your favorite philosophers N.Drew?
