The Bible---Have You Watched It On The History Channel?

i must admit, i am a sucker for bible movies.

i do not get the history channel on my cable service but i've heard good things about the series.. have you seen it?.

The story line can't help but be good, but the acting is poor as is the casting. Certainly not a Charleston Heston flim! "The Greatest Story Every Told" and "Ben Herr" will never get old. Acting and casting is superb!

i stay at my grandmother's house and pay a little rent to her (r500) as it is all i can afford.

i do however buy and take care of all my own food, washing etc.. this morning at 6 am, my bedroom door opend, slammed shut, heard the key turn a couple of times, open and slam shut again.

i woke up with a fright as that has never happened....first thought is someone is in the house.

For the born-in/raised in, you ever get resentful upon seeing kids involved with organized sports?

this past saturday, i was watching the georgetown/syracuse game, and a nike commercial was played during one of the breaks.

i couldn't locate the exact commercial, but below is a variation of it that has scenes from the same one that aired on saturday.

man did i feel some heavy resentment towards the wt during and especially after the commercial aired.

Epilog,

In my late 20s, after I left the Printing Company, I did return to the ice. Much too old to compete. Today, in my 50s I skate 3 times a week with a group called "The Rusty Blades". We are all older skaters, beginners to older pros. I especially enjoy helping out with this arenas testing, competitions and yearly shows for all the younger kids. Sometimes is it healing, sometimes old envious feelings creep in, but I can't just walk away... it means too much to me. Always wondering.... what if, what if. However I am thankful to God for giving me ice skating. It saved me while I was young. Had it not been for ice skating I would not have servived with the JWs alone.

This topic is my biggest bug a boo with the Printing Company. When I was 9 years old an ice arena was built just less than a mile from home and I was in their very first figure skating class. I new better than to discuss my skating at the KH even at that young age. My mom, for all of her craziness, seemed glad that I was out of her hair so she could pioneer longer hours while I skated everyday after school and on most Saturdays. My coach was very supporting, toteing me and her own two daughters back and forth to many competitions. I was totally on my own when it came to my figure skating. My Dad thank god, was supportive with providing the money for this expensive sport. He was never a JW.

I climbed the ranks without a peep from the KH elders, no one associated with me, but hey, I had the ice! Then one Saturday morning my name and picture were in the local paper. I was came in silver at Tri-States and was on my way to Nationals. Winners at Nationals are elgible for the Olymipics. I would have been competiting against Dorthy Hammill. But I will never know how far I could have gone because the next day after the Sunday meeting I was pulled into the libirary along with my mom. They brought up my service record and my poor participation, not being in the ministry school yada yada. And of course they used the proabition about standing for the flag and county; competitive spirit. They could have put a knife in me and hurt me less! I abruptly stopped skating; I just could not skate a little. It was all or nothing to me. I still think I suffer the depression of that time in my life.

no more memorial or lord's evening meal mentioned.. only an invitation to "the anniversary of jesus' death".

so, my question - who has caught this phrase and what does it mean?.

Now I know I am old when the blurb reminding all young men to register for selective service in the March 2013 KM doesn't seem to bat an eye with all of you. For Pete's sake I am only 56. But I remember clearly in the 60s and 70s (of the 1900's) that the JWs from the top to the rank and file were all about avoiding the selective service and if need be young men went to jail for 3 years durning the Vietnam War. I personally knew of 2 that went to prision. And now they are reminding/encouraging young men to make sure they sign up?

Mouthy, you must have something to say on this, you have been around at least as long as I have. This really is minding blowing!!!!!!

Roberta: They've put that info about the draft every year for as long as I can remember, at least 20 years.

That is news to my husband and I, but we have been out over 20 years. I read that to my husband and he about had a stroke! He used to be an elder, and said to me that he can not imagine ever seeing a blurb like that even being whispered.

Urgent one day meeting in Britain ,do you know it was about ?

yestarday all our elders were invited to a one day meeting urgently .i know they had their elders meeting few months ago .does anyone know what it was about .i heard from the grapevine that among other issues disgussed was a)how to deal with disfellowshipped ones and, b) how to offer councel to fellow elders .any elder attended this meeting in britain please feel free to share some info.

. They tend to make a fuss when it comes to making sure everyone's at their stations and there are sufficient yellow tabards in the car park and lining the street

Hey what is that little blurb at the end about young men of the United States signing up for the Selective Service and that little reminder they must notify of their any address change? Are they trying to make brownie points with Obama????
