Still can't believe I let that server get wiped back circa 2001... I didn't pay my hosting bill for a few months and *boom* it was all gone, including about 7 years of accumulated email. You can still find some witnesses.net stuff through the "Wayback Machine" at archive.org, but for the most part it is all vanished into the ether apart from our diminishing memories

There is no doubt to the authenticity of this letter. Go to http://channelc.org and see the original posting, currently near the top of the list. You see, Greg has been a consistent participant in that forum for over a year or more now. The letter is consistent with the opinions that he has been writing for the last six months. There is no dispute about whether he posted it or not there -- if it was a fraud I'm sure it would have caused quite a stir.
In my opinion, Greg certainly is showing a more open-minded attitude than he has shown in the past and may very well already be 'out' of the organization.

heard a great line on the radio the other morning, about the whole France situation. It went something like, since when does France have any credibility in matters of war and defense. It took the Germans what, 2 and a half hours to take over their country?
I don't think I'm a nationalist or patriot, but I do believe that democracy is the best way of life. Saddam represents the worst kind of government that has ever existed and I wouldn't mind if the USA just wiped him and his minions off the face of the earth. Make an example of Iraq and teach those Islamist deleted that there are serious repercussions for their evil terrorist ways. How many arab nations are there? How about for each terrorist act committed by Islamist groups we just nuke one of their countries? You think that would put a stop to it?

Was Public Reproof Traumatic for You?

first, my parents felt such shame over me - i was such an evil disappointment to them.
i would hear my mother talk on the phone to other sisters about how sad she was about the way i had turned out.

I got reproved at 16 for loose conduct and smoking. I think I didn't feel it to be such a big deal simply because about half the other kids my age in my hall were also in the process of getting reproved/df'd. I think my parents were not ashamed as much as relieved that I didn't get DF'd. It didn't last long. I got DF'd about a year later. Again for loose conduct. I was incorrigible and my elders had a two-strikes yer out policy.

Crap,,,,,,, now I think I am addicted to cigs...
by LyinEyes ini have been smoking off and on for over a year,,,,,,,never smoked before this year in my life.. it all started just for the hell of it.
then as my hub and i started going out dancing and hitting the town, cig smoke was everywhere.
i would comehome with it in my hair and all over my clothes.

I had my first smoke very soon after my 14th birthday. I can remember it vividly. A Newport in the basement of Prozy's Army/Navy Surplus store where I had an after-school job. It was one of my first concrete rebellious acts against my JW upbringing. It made me feel very sick and nauseated. Throughout high-school I would very occasionally bum cigarettes from my friends. It was very much a social thing and part of the double-life. Smoking with friends was part of shedding the goody-two-shoes JW image. Part of the reason I got publically reproved at 16 was because several JWs in my school knew that I smoked.
I managed to never buy a pack of cigarettes until I split up with my wife in July of last year. The girl I started dating soon thereafter was a smoker since age 11.
A year later I was no longer with the girl and it was really bothering me that I transitioned from a social smoker to a real smoker. I was waking up each morning feeling like crap and coughing like crazy. I tried to quit a couple of times, but it wasn't until I really committed to the idea that I DID NOT want to be a smoker that I was able to fully quit. It also helped to tell all my friends not to bum me cigs under any circumstances.
Now several months later, I am at the point where I still have an occasional cigarette when I'm out drinking, but I know deep inside that I love myself too much to pick up the habit again. (Side note: Anyone that hangs out in bars and clubs knows that you inhale a LOT of smoke whether you are actually smoking or not.)
