This is the best thread ever....it's 4:30 A.M. and I can't sleep (thinking about the Conti case, the Philadelhia ruling concerning church overseers being responsible for 'enabling' sex preditors to carry on, and the Sandusky guilty ruling; and what it may mean for the WTB&TS)----and so, as I am reading, I'm LOLing so hard tears make it impossible to read on, and I'm expecting my neighbors to call and tell me to quiet down the hilarity. Thanks for sharing y'alls sick senses of humor on this thread. The perfect start to my day. Really.

District conventions are "church holidays" in Germany ...
by processor inaccording to their overworked website, jehovahs witnesses in germany now have religious holidays (church holidays), such as the district conventions or the holy act of baptism:.
http://www.jehovaszeugende.d235.de/geschichte-und-gegenwart.4.0.html.
so, we should remember that holidays that tend to exalt ... a human organization are not in harmony with gods will, and true christians will not share in them.

Austute observation. Touche'. Nothing like hanging 'em with their own rope, which there seems to be plenty of, if one pays attention.

We had a C.O. years ago who called all the elders into a meeting after one assembly session and told us all that anyone carrying mics....even youngsters, preteen, teens, everyone had a wear a suit coat and slacks of the same color...no blazers, no sport coats. The same was true, he said, for anyone having meeting parts...suits only. At that moment I was wearing a leather blazer with black tweed slacks and on the way out of the meeting room our congregation overseer said, "well, what are you going to do about that leather blazer?" ....I replied "Get leather pants"....

OMG....I remember reading that too.....I was 2 years married and wanted to pursue broadcast journalism. Tossed that dream with any others down the old flusher, and now I'm 62 and doing OK, but just by the grace of hardwork and conservative living. Wonder where I'd have been if I'd have gone to school and learned something actually useful......geezz.

Send it....for all the reasons above. Whats the worst that can happen? It may be returned unopened. But if you don't send it, you'll be 2nd guessing yourself forever. And send another next year....

The Watchtowers mission statement....changed ??when??
by mauiboy inseems to me that years ago the wt's mission statement inside the front cover of the magazine mentioned that when donations cease, it would be recognized that it was time to cease publication of the magazine.
does anyone else remember this...or am i losing it?
the satement now has nothing even suggesting such a sentiment, and i was wondering how others re-call it?

On the inside of the front cover, at the top of the page is the magazines mission statement: "The purpose of this magazine......" blah, blah, blah. I haven't looked at it for years and was wondering when (If) it changed....

If it did change, does anyone know with which issue the new mission statement appeared?? I'm trying to figure out if it may tie in with the current interest and participation in hedge funds. Thanks.

"We Need a New Pledge"
by mauiboy inin our local paper (maui news) on dec.11 there appeared an article entitle "we need a new pledge".
it dealt with the need for childrens protection from pedophiles.
it screamed for an answer noting the victorian law reagrding 'working with children' as an example of what has been done elsewhere in the world towards this end.

People from all over the world submit letters to the Maui News and they seem to publish any and all that meet their criteria: Don't exceed 250 words, be of local interest, etc. Wh get lots of visitors from everywwhere and its surprising how many read and contribute long after their trips here. So, I'm guessing it would fly. Most local people who are in my position (possibly a DF'ing candidate) would probably not do it. I'm thinking it may be a chance to put a thought in the dubs head so that they might be prepared mentally to realize this isn't an 'apostate' issue should it make mainstream media in Feb. Thanks for the Q.

Thats the one....any takers? Maybe a chance to make at least a few people aware of whats going on. Maybe a good lead-in for the Feb 21st (if it doesn't get delayed again) courtroom drama.
