Unlike any (sane) human, god sat by and watched (he also arranged) the torture and murder of his son in order to forgive a debt to himself. It's polar opposite to love and sanity, that to me is almost enough to show the bible isn't inspired,

Proof the bible was NOT inspired by god.
by Comatose inone of the first things i did when i was trying to face my doubts about the bibles inspiration was to read it.
as jws we are always told to read daily, but you can't get much sense of context or continuity when you read a chapter or two a day.
so, i knew if i was going to give up on the religion and/or the bible it would only be after i had actually read and researched.

classification of Jehovahs Witness members by when they joined up
by besty injust got to thinking how long can the watchtower peddle the 'soon' story with any credibility?.
i would say there are the oldtimer or born ins in the 70+ age group - they possibly remember the 2nd world war, and maybe joined for 1975 or made life affecting decisions meaning they are so commited with 'nowhere else to go' that they have surrendered to the resurrection hope.. then you have the '1986 international year of peace, the 1914+70 year' generation crowd.
people in their 40s and 50s now.

But most folks frame of reference here is jw. Personally I'm not interested in the ins and outs of Mormons (or any other religious craze) because I was never affected by it.

Choices...
by Sammy Jenkis inquick little moment of reflection i experienced today:.
i had a buddy back in high school whose younger brother was an acquaintance of mine, we weren't ever really friends but the times we interacted he was alright.. for all intents and purposes we'll call this guy "smitty.".
smitty was an all star jw, super zealous on service, mr. go-to for anything spiritual, completely a johnny-on-the-spot in his congregation, and honestly a person i saw a lot of potential in for the future with the "truth" and life in general.. after i graduated high school i lost touch with his brother and about 3 years later heard a story on the news where his name popped up.

Can you take someone with you in Judicial Committee?
by zound ini've heard of a couple of cases of a person being present (maybe wife, or friend) for support at judicial committees - is this commonly accepted by the elder committee or is it just a rarity?.

Does faith excuse serious problems with the bible?
by iCeltic ini constantly read that having faith is the answer to knowing that god (or in most cases, jesus) exists.
but to me it's quite clear there are serious difficulties in believing the bible.. adam and eve.

Tec - ok, when I say knowing god I should have been more specific, I meant the god of the bible (as opposed to the many other gods that have been worshipped by man), the place where the vast, vast majority of Christians learned about god.
i have trouble believing in that god due to the source. Rather than arguing semantics, the absolute fact of the matter is that the god of the bible is incredibly violent. Leaving Jesus aside for a moment and how you clearly feel about Jesus, there are things in the bible that are disgusting, taking woman against their will, murdering children (aside from killing most of mankind, twice)
then we get to other things like Adam and Eve, the vast majority of bible scholars believe that there was no literal Adam and Eve, so how then do we account for original sin? Etc? Belief in god asks more questions than it answers, I feel.
also, if its Christ you have to put faith in, where did you find that out? The bible? To me its far too convenient to say the bible has mistakes but I know the parts that are true.

4 sincere questions for those that believe there is a God
by S EIGHT ingreetings.. allow me to set the questions up.. after 30 years in the truth (i'm now late 40's) and having established the truth about the truth i consider myself agnostic going on atheist.. i struggle to believe there is a god when i observe life yet i try to convince myself there must be something out there.. here's the basis of my question: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23583116 .
in summary, 2 young boys have been killed by a snake that escaped from a pet store in canada.
it made it's way up through the ventilation into the apartment they were staying in.

The post about god stepping in and saving his wife and child is so blinded and narrow minded. Are your wife and child more precious to god than mine, or anyone else's?
People with major health problems, ones that seemingly are hopeless, pull through everyday without explanation, it offers absolutely no proof whatsoever that god exists and that he saved them. It's almost unbearable reading idiotic comments like that.
of course you are, like everyone, welcome to believe that's what happened, but stating it as a fact is lunacy.

2 she-bears kill 42 children
by confusedandalone inwe all remember this passage vividly: from there elisha went up to bethel.
while he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him.
"go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!

It's things like this that make me think surely the bible cannot be an inspired book from a loving god. It's not a case of having a good argument against the bible being true, it's more a case of things like this can't be ignored.

Scriptural list of gods anger?
by iCeltic incan anyone point me in the right direction, a good descriptive list of gods anger, genocide, vengeance and general things that we would view as bad and the scriptures next to it to show where these things are in the bible?.

My feeling is that many people want to believe in god and Jesus, so much so that they do. Having just read what Shirley said there and see how odd it would be to think that way, the want must overtake reason (IMO)
Of course I could be wrong, but to me belief in god asks way, way more questions than it answers.
