What percentage of assmbly experiences are total fabrication?
by NoRegrets inwhen i was in 4th grade, i ended up in a situation involving minor school politics.
they had developed a "student council" which did little more than sell pencils at lunch time for fundraisers.
anyway, i was appointed by the teacher and didn't think much of it as an 8-9 year old.

Another time when I was a teen I had the CO call me directly at home. We knew him pretty well because he stayed in our home the week of their visit. He called me asking if I had any experiences of informal witnessing at school. I really hadn't since I tried to keep my JW status on the down low. He assumed I had because I was a seemingly exemplary teen. I ran the sound box and mics and frequently auxillary pioneered even during school months (public school). He seemed so surprised when I had no experiences come to mind and sat silently on the phone while I awkwardly tried to think of any possible experience. I finally (after some LONG awkward pauses) drummed up a rather tepid encounter from the past where I had loaned a copy of the Reasoning book to one of my closest non-witness friends at school. He simply wanted to understand more about my beliefs because we were friends. I don't even recall how I built a story around it, but it had to have been embellished just to fill the time. I did write it myself, so it was honest, but definitely drawn out in the detaila and with pretend optimism of future developments that would never be.
It was more the like the CO liked the idea of me having a part and wanted me for that demonstration regardless of how inane the actual story was!

They ARE encouraged to lie if it means a story that means it will pull at the heart-strings which equals a sentimental streak which can line the ol' contribution boxes!

When I was in 4th grade, I ended up in a situation involving minor school politics. They had developed a "student council" which did little more than sell pencils at lunch time for fundraisers. Anyway, I was appointed by the teacher and didn't think much of it as an 8-9 year old. When I got home, I made the mistake of sharing the news with my mom who became immediately alarmed at the "political" implications of the opportunity. I was given a copy of the school brochure to take to the teacher which I believe included a note from her as to why I had to "resign" from my postion. I thought that was the end of it but I was wrong.
Some time later an announcement was made that the PO was looking for young ones to relate personal experiences for his upcoming Circuit Assembly part. Well, my mother just LIT UP! Immediately after she began recounting the story (at least her version of it) and forced me to seek out the PO to tell him I had an experience. In the end, she completely wrote the part for me even though she wasn't there and it was a TOTAL FABRICATION! Is this the norm? I know it happens, but how often? I would guess more than half the time the parts are AT LEAST exaggerated if not a complete imaginary tale!

Popularity Contest
by Voices ineverywhere i've gone, no matter what, there's always a 'popularity contest' (which i'm a loser to)... whether it was in the organization (based on how high you went up the chain of command or who you married for the sisters), the school system such as high school, college, etc.. or job.
who does the hardest work, who does what, when how.
even on this website.

I WILL BE but have only been here 2 days!
Soon, I will form a small group in Allegheny PA and have you all follow me as God's sole channel of communication on Earth! I will change my mind
about what God has said, but it will be your fault for misunderstanding me! Many of you will have to die for the principles I put in place but it will be
worth it when you rule as princes in heaven with me! I may have an occasional mistress on the side and build a palace in SoCal, but you can all lead a
life of chastity and what little money you have should come to my coffers to perpetuate growing my organization!!!!

How long did Conventions used to be?

Remember that the closing song on the last day (in more recent years at least, I don't go back past the 3-days) was always especially an emotional type? Very often it was Song 13 (Christian Dedication) that is, in itself, an emotional melody aside from the lyrics. It seemed a deliberate attempt to raise emotions and make you feel sad on purpose so that you felt sad the convention was ending. Was it a way to manufacture emotions that weren't really there? Making the poor sheep feel like they were sad to be going home rather than relieved the ordeal was over? I know it ALWAYS worked on my mom and my wife's mom. My mother-in-law would often sob for a large part of the drive home which was several hours! How sinister!

I think I remember them going from several 3-days back to a 4-day in the late 80's. Does anyone else? I was young at the time but I remember a lot of grumbling and that Thursday was very poorly attended! Needless to say the next year was back down to 3-days! Was it an attempt to seem extra urgent? Did I imagine this? Might have been '87 or '88?
