To those of you out there that haven't seen Religulous from Bill Maher, it's on IFC tonight at 9 (Central). It is very perceptive about the dangers of religion. I only wish he would have touched on the JWs!

This Sounds like JWs!

I guess I was never beat by anyone else, but I received about the worst beating of my life because of a phone call from a "sister". I went to school with her son who cried all the time which was unacceptable for 4th graders. Needless to say, we did tease him a lot. Anyway, his mom called our house to confront me about it and I had to apologize to him. Incidentally, his dad was an unbeliever. Anyway, before the phone call was even over I could hear the jingle of my dad's belt and KNEW WHAT THAT MEANT. Except this time, he was hotter with anger at me than I could remember. His dad left when my dad was young, so he always had that chip on his shoulder. Anyway, he related with the kid I was teasing as a fellow "fatherless boy" even though the kid's dad was among the living, just not a JW. Anyway, I got beat so hard I had bright purple bruises on my butt the width of his heavy work belt for at least a week.

COC in public libraries
by diamondiiz ini haven't researched this but do library have copies of this book?
did you ever look for coc or any other book in a local library when you were a believer or when you began to have doubts?
how hard is it to find this book in a public library?.

I didn't find CofC in my library system but they do have other titles. A book I enjoyed from the library was by a sociologist named Andrew Holden from the UK. It's called Jehovah's Witnesses- Portrait of a Contemporary Religious Movement. I plan on reading it again soon. It is written from a clinical point of view and is enlightening. Anyone else read this one? Our library also carries I'm Perfect- You're Doomed by Kyria Abrahams. We owned that one and passed it along to others. It's a funny read but more light. Did anyone else read or enjoy that one?

We had the CO and his wife stay with us several times. I remember it being pretty much pleasant. Didn't see him much but the wife visited with us more. They were both very nice but the lower level of our house was pretty much an apartment so we left them alone quite a bit which was nice for them. They were some of the nicest JWs I remember and the CO himself was a pretty humble guy for having that position. His wife and I did do one thing together more than once: Make homemade salsa. It was pretty fun and actually a fonder memory than pretty much any of the rest of my Jw upbringing. That was probably because my parents were on their best behavior and not able to be their usual evil selves!

sister bishop was a shrill overweight busybody who had nothing else better to do than spread rumors about both people and inanimate objects.
on the other hand, brother bishop was a rail thin cuckold of a man nearly 20 years younger than his wife.

Any sucessful wrongful death lawsuits?

(excluding the car crash caused by a sleep deprived bethelite.).
i especially wonder about the avenue of a sucessful suit related to a suicide by a shunned member.

I especially wonder about the avenue of a sucessful suit related to a suicide by a shunned member. I would think that might be a clear connection to the WT being liable. Or maybe the refusal of a blood transfusion. I
I've yet to hear about any of these cases being sucessful but, then again, I don't get out much.

Feeling down.... BIG time
by Free!! ini know i don't post here often.... i just lurk around and read most of the threads daily (from my phone)....but today is one of those days that i just feel like "blah"... i dont care about anything, i realize i dont have anything, all my friends are busy or with their own set of problems... and i just dont want to bother then.. it sucks..... i just need to vent, let everything out... i really want to scream, but i cant... i wish i could run away from everything and just start fresh, i feel like a failure and i just dont like me at all....i was so down a few days ago i was thinking about going back to the hall, because i feel so lonely... but i refused to let my depression make me do something so silly... .
thanks for even looking at this thread... i just need it to vent or i am going to explode.... :(.

I know the feeling. Glad you came here to vent! Things can seem pretty dark at times but it will always get better! My wife and I were both born in and managed to get out together so I guess I should be grateful for that. Yet, I can't help seething from time to time about how badly we all got screwed over by the Watchtower and its' policies. No holidays, no normal childhood friends, being isolated and abused, and now having our entire history and heiritage wiped away with a wave of an imaginary hand! It is not only good but COMPLETELY NECESSARY to vent!
