How many ex-JW's are musicians on here?
by NoRegrets injust wondering how many of us on here are musicians, what we play, and if we had witness bands and/or performed.
i have had quite a few funny moments of being in bands that wanted to be cool, but always had to nerf the edginess of any songs we played and watch the noise!
i played with different elders who loved to rock out, but when they played at a congregation party didn't even want to use overdrive of any kind!

Hello From a Newbie
by AlphaQup2nite ini found this site randomly the other day on an unrelated search, and its nice to find a place where people can discuss a relgion that in house cannot be discussed without either being quoted mantras or a very skewed view of the world.. ok about me.. im a 24 year old taiwanese-american, and i have been raised as a jw from the age of about three to the age of 17, when i unoffically left.
i started to have doubts around age 12, but did what i was supposed to to keep mommy and daddy happy.
my parents are jws, as well as my older 1/2 sister, and my younger sister.

What is the stupidest comment you ever heard at a meeting?
by 3rdgen ina very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.
needless to say, he had everyone's attention.
he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.

I heard one about something about a baby dying in a barn fire?!?! I don't remember the connection to the WT lesson, but it brought up tears for the sis giving the comment and a tearful hand back of the mic!

Do you have to deal with a psychopathic person?
by moshe indef: psychopathy (/sa?
'k?p?i/[1][2]) is a mental disorder characterized primarily by a lack of empathy and remorse, shallow emotions, egocentricity, and deceptiveness.
psychopaths are highly prone to antisocial behavior and abusive treatment of others, and are very disproportionately responsible for violent crime.

I have TWO psychopath witness relatives. My father and my uncle. I am not exaggerating here, they fit ALL of the criteria! I was raised a witness and can say that I knew many hundreds of witnesses. Many had their shortcomings and some were probably at least abusive, but none fit the criteria of a psychopath. My dad was literally feared and unliked by the whole congregation and to this day doen't have a single friend. My uncle has moved all over the world being an insane JW. He used to be a commuter to bethel and did international construction in Africa and Central America. He now lives somewhere in South America and is nuts! Guess who gets to see both of these psychos at a non-witness funeral Sunday? I hope I make it out alive!!!

WT Society Appoints Elders/MS Based on " Functions " Performed - not ....
by flipper in........... holy spirit or any " fruitages of the spirit " like love, kindness, mildness, meekness , etc.
shown by men considered for elder or ms positions.
qualities or true positive character traits are not that important to the wt society in appointments of these men in jw congregations.. no, the real " qualifications " that a jw man needs to exhibit is being able to report 10 hours a month in knocking on people's doors offering wt and awake magazines !

I grew up in a congregation split between two, large ruling dynasties! Big families that were at least 3 generation strong witnesses. The amount of nepotism exhibited was staggering. Utter buffoons would rise to the position of MS or elder whilst a non family member would jump through all the hoops and take years to rise through the ranks. There were many incidents that were covered by "private reprovings" or had a completely blind eye turned while the non family members were raked over the coals for being involved in the same immoral stunts! The holy spirit surely wasn't making the appointments in that congregation, the uncles, fathers, and grandfathers were!!!!

born-in, as was my husband.
we were both baptized as teens, married when we were teens (he was early 20s) and we were both the "perfect" witnesses.

What really ended the book study in private homes?
by Alfred init's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.
although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...
but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?
