Jesus, the Money-Changers and ATM machines ?
by RubaDub ineverytime i go to an assembly, a picture with the atm machine comes to mind.. in one of the older publications there was a picture of jesus in the temple over-turning the tables of the money-changers.. come on photoshop people .... add a couple of atm machines falling down into the picture.. it would be great to have for a party and the time spent could be added to your monthly service time.. rub a dub.

Disassociating

I DA'ed myself. That was about 12 years ago. Just wrote a to the point letter to my local elders (I had moved out in the city from my JW parent's house about one year prior to that).
I wrote a very to the point letter: "This letter is to inform you that I wish to disassociate myself from the Jehovah's Witnesses' organization. " signed dated. Sent another one to my mum and dad with more details... And yes, you are considered the same way as someone who was DA'd.
Some folks say why even bother getting DA'ed, just don't play by their rules. I don't know. It makes sense. But again I am glad I did it. They cannot play the You-were-casted-out-you-evil-man card on me. My back is covered. -

ApostaCy or ApostaSy, which is the correct spelling ?
by Phizzy ini am a pedant, but the reason i care about spelling and grammar etc on jwn is that jw's will pick on any minor error and discount everything else you say, so if you are writing articles on blogs or wherever, you need to get it "right", in the sense that it cannot be criticised.. i know that "apostasy" can be written with a c and be acceptable to some, but as the origin is the greek word apostasia i prefer to spell it with an s to avoid criticism.. we should try to make our spelling and grammar acceptable to all if we wish to be taken seriously, i think we need to pay attention on here too to make sure our posts make sense, with some posts i just think, "wtf are you on about ?".
pedants rant over..

"putting on the new personality" or "having the mind of Christ" = CULT!!!!
by Comatose inhow much more cult speak can you get than "putting on the new personality"?
it makes me cringe now.
how uncomfortable and strange.

Now dealing with a personality disorder, I also look back on that very expression in disgust. It is plain and simple damaging the personality building process of any individual. Even more so for the born-ins like me. At every phase of what is normal personality developpment in a child or teenager, this "new personality" comes in the way, making for adults with... *drum roll* Personality Disorder.

The article is in preperation to the district convention. This makes me feel unseasy as I as "trained" to do that. Mostly by
physical abuse from my god loving father. When you are scared shitless you will stay awake and sit quietly. -

Baptism of a chid and an elder's response to my objection
by never a jw ini just learned that an 11 year old kid is taking the questions for baptism.
as soon as his father finished tellig me this, i told him that he should make his son wait, but he responded that he couldn't go against jehovah' spirit.
i gave the guy a break because he is the uneducated and naive immigrant who puts his heart, not his mind, into the religion.

I, myself, REALLY wanted to get baptised at the time. I must have been 13, 14... But also I really wanted to get married at 21... (I did the first, not the latter)
Would you have us choose for him? - He is totally avoiding the question. No one asked to chose for him. Just allow him time to make his own choice.
Do they truly believe that Jesus will go... "Well Tommy, You are 12 now... You could have gotten baptised last year. Nothing was stopping you. No paradise for you!" -

Nearly all religions are just extortion rackets

I have a hard time thinking of just one religion that does not operate on threat.
If it is not damnation, it is missing out on something in this life or in an imaginary after life.
Religion gives comfort not unlike alchool or drugs. But it fixes nothing.
It's a racket and a snare! -

Rebuttals:"Wait on Jehovah"
by Emery inok i think most of you at some point have come across the apologetic saying "wait on jehovah" from jws whenever an injustice occurs in the organization.
many have also used this expression to abandon evidence against the "truth".
this has easily become one of my biggest pet peeves now since speaking to others about ttatt.

New member says hey
by jay dubless ini have lurked now and then, just decided to join.. my older brother and i were raised by our jw mom, but our dad was a non-practicing catholic.
so we went to the hall, but were considered "weak" witnesses, since our family still celebrated xmas and birthdays, to appease my dad i suppose.
as a kid, i loved these holidays.. anyways, when my brother was 17 (i was 13), he spent a few weeks with our cousins in ky, who are all gung-ho j-dubs, and upon his return, he decided he was going to be more "theocratic".

Welcome. I like to read the stories of people who where there during the 1975 debacle. So many people deny that the WT said 75 would be the end.
They'll soon deny that they claimed the 1914 generation would never pass. They've already stretched the meaning of the word generation. :/
