  Hey Sis,
  You are scaring me a little right now. My sister committed suicide 3 years ago last March. I miss her terribly. Please, run...don't walk to your counselor and talk, talk and talk some more. Her death left a big hole in my heart and I am sure that would be true for those who love you, including people you've never actually met such as on this board. Please give yourself the time and the opportunity to sort things out. Nothing is ever as bad as it seems.

  Does GB know 'IT' is a farce? - Yes!

  given a comment on my brci sound bites, yet another, though now deceased, gb member also stated that the organization's teachings are a farce or fraud.

  also, ray franz publications have throughly documented his views from the time he was on the gb and afterwards, as to what he thinks.

  it seems that ray also mentioned in crisis of conscience that some of the gb felt that their 1914 doctrine was in serious error while he was there.

  If by "IT" you are referring to the 1914 doctrine, then obviously without "IT" their entire doctrinal structure becomes a house of cards.

  suicide controversy

  ive just heard about a suicide here in toronto, a brother, sounds like a family man.

  i dont know any details but i was kind of disturbed because its apparently a matter of some controversy.

  some feel that they should not attend the funeral since it was a suicide.

  I have attended funerals for suicide victims. Never gave it a second thought nor did anyone question me about it. For what it is worth, a '77 Watchtower on page 346 indicates that attendance there to comfort those bereaved is a good thing. I am not sure what the society's position was before that nor should it matter now. Simple human decency and compassion would tell you that a family who is trying to cope with such a sad thing needs comfort, not ostracism. I think suicide forces a very uncomfortable introspection on JW's psyche. After all we are the happiest people in the world. Perhaps that is why some shy away from attending such a funeral.

  When did you think Armageddon would come?

  i was just thinking about this.

  having been raised "in the truth" post-1975, i didn't grow up with any specific year in mind.

  yes, there was the notion of "this generation will by no means pass away," but by the time i was old enough to think about that concept, the people who were born in 1914 (to stretch it out as far as possible, as the society ultimately did) were still only in their 60's.

  My dad would invite me to go fishing with him on Sunday morning, he was never a believer, and before I would agree to go with him I would run outside to make sure it didn't look stormy. I was afraid armageddon would show up while I was fishing with my Dad instead of at the meeting. Of course I was excited about the whole '75 thing. In the late 60's I was in High School and most of the older ones felt that the world wouldn't make it till '75. Everything was just too rotten in the world for it to last that long. Got married in '73 and the wife and I never thought we'd have kids before the end. Well, we had kids but never thought they would have to go to school. Well, they went to school but we never thought they would graduate. Well, they graduated and so on and so on.

  My first time "storming" out!!

  i "stormed" out of a meeting for the first time in my life tonight.

  well, i really just walked really fast, but inside myself i was storming.

  anybody catch some of the insolent comments made in the 6/01km?

  Just wondering? Is there a problem getting enough recruits for Bethel service these days? Does anyone have any insight on this, such as numbers of new volunteers coming in versus numbers leaving?

  I graduated in 1970. I was being quizzed and laughed at by that time as well. There was only one other JW in school at the time and apparently he had told some people that armageddon was coming in '75. I know I was too embarrassed to say anything about it.

  i've noticed several posts the last few days slamming people with different beliefs.

  now i enjoy a good debate but i think this is something that you who claim to believe or follow the teachings of the wts should keep in mind.

  now i will only be using scriptures so you need not worry!.

  How does one become a JW???

  every source i've looked at is very vague and my witness friends just keep encouraging me to stop asking questions and come to meetings.

  my sense is, since i disagree so much with jw doctrine and the way it is presented in awake and especially watchtower that i'd never make it as a jw.

  still i am curious what the process is and what "tests" if any one must pass.. any info will be much appreciated.. thanks,.

  In a nutshell you will have to submit to a home bible study which will indoctrinate you on JW teachings. You will be required to be regular in attendance at meetings and will eventually have to engage in the public or door to door ministry. Once you have expressed a desire to be baptized, you will have to be questioned by the elders. There is a long list of questions that you will be required to respond to. If they are satisified with your answers, you will be allowed to be baptized. Than they have you.

  Noah drama from a while ago

  does anyone else out there remember a drama from quite a few years ago that portrayed noah trying to preach to people about the flood, and he had a friend that wasn't doing all that he should in helping noah, and at the end of the drama the friend gets locked out of the ark and drowned???

  i remember at the time, sitting there and thinking...what in the holy hell is this crap?

  now they are making people up??

  Yeah, I remember that drama as well! I had the same response you did, wondering where that character came from. Since we are in the remembering mode....and this goes way back!!...As a youngster...early teens...at an assembly...I remember a brother holding up one of the green bibles and saying.."If the Society tells me that this bible is black..I am going to say...You know, I thought this bible was green....but now that I look at it, in fact it IS black!" His point being that we should accept whatever we are told, even if it doesn't make sense. Even then I remember thinking, this is crazy!!
