No, it might not affect you directly, but do you have family in the "truth." Well, for their sake it might not be such a good idea. Remember, you are shunned just by association. Your family members might be shunned, just because they are related to you. I would recommend, one keeps a low profile. What one does not see, does not grieve the heart. My five cents worth.

The JW life is good!
by Julia Orwell infor some people.
i think of the old man who has no family and lives in a nursing home, and the only time he gets out is when he's picked up for the meetings.
he lives solely for that.. or people who love routine and busy-ness, people who need to be led.. george orwell wrote that the party is best able to impose its worldview on those least likely to understand what it is that's being asked of them: orthodoxy is unconsciousness.. i believe a lot of jws swallow the party line and it passes through them unharmed, like a seed pooped out by a bird.

Watch out those that swallow the party line just because they don't know better. I know of an old brother, an elder for a long time, one that sold everything in 1975 and pioneered. He ended up with a small pension and a little money in the bank. A kindly brother, an elder, offered to built on a flat and to look after him. Naturally, the brother used his money to build on the flat for him to stay in. After he fell in the shower for a third time, the brother put him in an old-age home in a neigbouring town. When he became bedridden, he for days lay in his urine an faeces. And that's how he died. This I know, because my father (who hated the Witnesses) and my mother (a Witness) took pity on him and visited him. So this is a warning to all those faithful pioneers and Bethelites. Hopefully you will die before the calamitous days are upon you, and you are conveniently forgotton by your spiritual brothers and sisters.

I am free
by new hope and happiness inyes the title of my first post was a little negative " shatterd faith" and the truth is i dont feel like that at all.. its wonderful being in a state of not knowing as it makes hope possible.
and what i now learn i will learn from within and also enjoy doubt.. so why do i call this post " i am free"?
because i will no longer allow a tiny few control the direction of my life.

Welcome New hope and happiness! The CO asked my mother whether I wanted to come back. I look after my mother and she still associates. So, she said, no, not in the least. He then aked whether I am not guilty of a serious sin somehow. My mother answered no, she would have noticed (we live in a small town and there is not much mischief one can get up to without somebody noticing).
I was very angry about this until I thought about it. No reason to feel grieved, I am free. I told her, next time he asks, tell him there is one sin that I am guilty of, and one that I freely admit. I'm like the Pharisee, thanking the Lord constantly that I am not like the lowly taxcollector (the deluded, pioneering JW that hangs on the lips of the GB). See Luk. 18:9-15. I am able to think for myself. I don't need anybody to think for me. I am truly free!

In a lighter vein, here's a joke I remember from early on: Three men walked down a street. A wind came up and blew the one man's hat away. A dog grabbed the hat and chewed it up. The second man laughed. The third man, a staunch fellow, reprimanded him: Your attitude, I don't like it. The second man answered jovially: It's not my 'at he chewed, it's his 'at he chewed.

Bible Writers not just ignorant "goat herders"
by applehippie inreally, the bible was written by nothin' but goat herders?
i don't post much but this does irk me.
yes a few may have been shepherds or fisherman, but a fair amount were far more educated and were professionals in their fields of occupation.

Cofty, a lot of those laws were regulatory, rather than freshly instituted. Many of those practices did exist but had to be regulated, e.g., slavery.
Think of how far we have come in the medical field. But only about 1860 did Dr. Semmelweis introduce hand washing to decrease mortality rates. And here’s a few gems of "knowledge" from Encyclopaedia Britannica (1768):
US state of California was spelt with two L's and is described as “a large country of the West Indies. Unknown whether it is an island or a peninsula”.
Electricity was advised for curing some illnesses, including deafness and toothache in children.
The solar system was described as having six planets; Uranus and Neptune had yet to be discovered!
Flying dragons were reportedly to be found in Africa, the East Indies and America.
Homo sapiens were sub divided into five varieties: the American, the European, the Asiatic, the African and the monstrous.

Steve2, here we are in Cantleave's teritory. Survival of the fittest. Either I slaughter you or you slaughter me. View it within context. If you struggle to do that, read Asterix and the Black Gold. That will put you in the picture in cartoon form.
Phizzy, for one, how did the writer of Job know about the fire underneath the earth? Quite exceptional for a goatherder! Let's change tack. Let's look at the piramids. No-one can explain how they were built. Not bad for a primitive people. Language as we know it, originated with these people. They were not so stupid as many think.

Phizzy, the Bible is not a scientific textbook or history book and has never claimed to be so.

Comatose, be thankful for those warmongering pillagers and rapists of days gone by. Without them and their contribution, we might not have been here. At least we know many of them could read and write. Actually they invented alphabetical writing, grammar, and linguistics. Here's a few of their ramblings:
He is stretching out the north over the empty place, Hanging the earth upon nothing; (Job 26:7 NWT)
He has described a circle upon the face of the waters, To where light ends in darkness. (Job 26:10 NWT)
As for the earth, out of it food goes forth; But underneath it, it has been upturned as if by fire. (Job 28:5 NWT)
All the winter torrents are going forth to the sea, yet the sea itself is not full. To the place where the winter torrents are going forth, there they are returning so as to go forth. (Ecc 1:7 NWT)
Not bad for a lot of ignoramuses and goatherders.

Yes, interesting that the stuff of goatherders is studied at colleges and universities. Hundreds and thousands of books and articles are written on a variety of subjects, connected to what they have written. Shows you how ignorant man is.
