I don't listen to as much country music as I used to - but this one' worth a listen. . I know he looks goofy, it's original video, but the song is beautiful. The words haunting.

WHY we can not afford health care in the US...
by zeroday inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bljxmjzxgni

wednesday
Managed care was supposed to contain costs etc in our health care. Doctors are told by insurance companies what tests they can run and what meds the insurance company will cover. If they ordered too many tests they would be dropped from the insurance company, and then will lose the business of all the patients who are looking for a doctor who is contracted with their insurance company.
This has made money for insurance companies as they deny care routinely and postpone paying bills, and force subscribers to "fight" for their benefits. They often just deny something and hope you will not pursue it. Laws were passed to prevent the discrimination of insurance companies against the mentally ill- by making them pay for that care the same as medical care. They have found was to circumvent these laws in many sates . a favorite work around is to limit yearly benefits but not life times.
Unfortunately if and when someone really gets to he bottom of this whale sh*t system- they will find our government is involved. our government is some form is backing and helping these insurance companies and pharmacy companies. So if we "go after " the pharmaceutical companies for gouging us or for the insurance companies for denying care, etc, - some embarrassing things will probably come to the surface.
This system's broken- i personally do not believe it can be fixed. Too many people have their hands in the cookie jar. doctors have become accustomed to a very nice life style, and medical schools are very expensive. Docs expect some return for all that education and money spent. I think they should be paid fairly too, However, system must be in place for those who are need to provide basic health care. No infant ( or adult) should have to go deaf due to repeated ear infections due to the fact that even if they took the infant to the ER- they still have to buy the medicine.
One thing that will happen if they extend Medicare or Medicaid to cover the uninsured- you will find that our government will stop paying the doctors. It is happening now. Medicaid and Medicare docs are often terrorized by a system that is really set up to just deny payment and burden them with excessive paperwork. More and more in this area doc's just do not accept Medicare patients, and Medicaid doctors can really be hard to find.
I too agree that at some point your quality life becomes and issue, but I do not want anyone else making that decision for me except my family ( or me provided I am able ) I believe all life has value in God's eyes. Granny is not the family pet that you put to sleep when she becomes old. I never considered my parents a burden and do not begrudge them anytime I gave them ( so I could be out living my life) They gave me plenty of time as a child.
This assumes that somehow these undocumented workers are somehow magically a loss to America. The opposite is true. Of course, it's nice work if you can get it, getting people to come contribute to your society but giving them no benefits of said socie
a lot of illegals work off the books and don't pay any taxes but are using the resources. I have no problem with anyone being here legally and working on the books and paying taxes like the rest of us.

Abusive People On This Board...
by cognac inhow do you handle them?

do you just ignore them altogether?

Some Jws can tend to think they are right about just about everything. It's that 'college education" they get from the " Awake " you know.
I can still remember how shocked I was to realize I was not right all the time- or not even a good percentage of the time.
some tend to think that if anyone disagrees with - well that person is just rude and nasty and yada yada yada. .
I seldom have put anyone on "ignore" b/c some of us a little "shy" on social grace's, or may be very depressed or ill or in pain , so I try and extend some mercy.
Also I do not get involved any any "intrigue" that may go on with these boards. I just do not care that much.
I care that sparkplug has been having serious problems now and Big Tex and Nina just has a happy 25 anniversary.
I am fairly direct here, but much less so in person.

Violations of privacy re: postal mail by JWs
by Dogpatch ini have been sending out orders of books to jws, ex-jws and others for over 25 years.
sometimes plain wrap to keep the family's noses out of it.
over the years i have seen the same constant pattern: whenever the questioning jw lives with or near family members who are currently jws, they want to break open the mail to see what others are ordering!!

Saturday, June 14, Dallas, TX
by cruzanheart inwell, it's not exactly on the date but the first opportunity thereafter!.
it's been a hell of a ride.
we were both regular pioneers when we met and we weathered the storms of getting married (both sets of parents did their best to keep it from happening), chris leaving the borg, me staying in for another 15 years and two kids, his family disowning him, my father's suicide .

Why I will NEVER be an elder again
by stillajwexelder inso the po confirmed what many on this board already know.
at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.
any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.

It won't work. this happened as I recall back in the late early 80's. I recall an elder saying that there was a lot of unrest b/c many were tired of cleaning toilets while other went to bethel b/c they had "skills" etc.. Too many of the bros have "nice' jobs, some college and their kids do too. How are they going to convince people to be satisfied with a HS education when so many others will have at least some college? I know for at least 20 years now the bros have been sending their kids to college in this area. They may have have got the stink eye for doing it but they did it anyhow.

JW Refuses to Let Husband have Life-saving Transfusion
by fjtoth injehovahs witness refuses to let husband have life-saving blood transfusionby lucy cockcroft last updated: 6:42 am bst 06/06/2008 the wife of a man who is critically ill in hospital has refused to let doctors give him a life-saving blood transfusion because he is a jehovahs witness.john edwards, 57, suffered severe injuries when a motorist suspected of drink-driving knocked him over and medics have warned he could only have days to live if he does not have the transfusion.. but his wife sheila said he has signed a form banning any blood transfusions in the event of an accident or illness, because their religion forbids it.. it is believed she is rejecting repeated pleas from doctors hoping to change her mind.. the couple's sons, jonathan, 36 and tom, 29, do not share their beliefs and it was unclear last night whether they supported their mother's decision.. a family source said: "sheila is adamant that john must not have blood.
she says giving him a transfusion would be like assaulting him, and he wouldn't want to live knowing he had disobeyed his god.. "she is in a terrible state, constantly in tears at his bedside, but won't give in to requests from anyone.
her sons are both with her but her position hasnt budged.".

Should we count on Jesus to heal us instead of some of the life saving miracles of modern medicines, including something as common as a hysterectomy or gallbladder removal? That is faith healing. A century ago the need for surgery and no anesthesia or no actual surgery available would have meant your death. Now we have them available. How foolish of us to turn them down and instead count on Jesus life saving blood to save us when a simple surgery can take care of the problem. Have the surgery and pray for God's spirit or Jesus spirit (as you have it) to help you survive and get well.
Really, a person should use common sense and sound judgment. We have medical modalities available now that were now dreamed of when the Bible was written Does that make them wrong?
I know as one of jws nothing anyone could have said would have mattered , I was brainwashed. I'm so glad that I am able to see it for what it is---teachings of men .
Refusing a transfusion when there is any hope that it can help is suicide.
