I know , b/c my boys got me out of the org-or at least as far out out i am now. the comment u dad made about "his boys dying' or whatver, well, it really tugs on a parents heart strings not to be with their kids. And not to see the grand kids-well i would compromise any way to be able to see my grand kids.Eventuallly i finally heard my sons when they said"mom we just don't believe this anymore".Trust me valis, your parents want to see their gandkids-Org or no Org.

Discussion With My Dad...Ended Badly.
by Valis insome of you may know that my parents were expected for "dinner" on thanksgiving day.
well i really don't think its going to happen now.
i called my dad last night becuase my mother, now visiting my kids in south texas and bringing them here to see me, said they had "stuff to do on thursday".

by TR incaught inbetween the wt doctrine and being "worldly", x 'hovahs live a strange life indeed.
sampling what the world has to offer, yet remaing loyal to wt doctrine is the dichotomy that is the loyal x 'hovah.. my friend, let's call him "gomer", is such a person.
undoubtedly bothered by this situation, gomer refuses to delve into the world of the truth about the "truth".

by wednesday ini know jw's are abusive psychologicaly to their members, however so are other churches.
case in point, i knew a woman who would not marry b/c the pope said not to use birth control.
she did not want children, and she could not find it within herself to go against the pope.

ty for responding Steph., I am Wednesday, i have been in "truth" all my life and i'm in my late 40's. i've seen a lot of abuse.. I am so grateful to be here and to be able to freely talk-someting as u know u can't do as a jw.Both my hubby and i are inactive , but he still occ attends a meeting or two. he also being raised in "truth'. I had looked as some of the other xjw sights, but some were either too religious, or not religious at all.I know there are some as u guys say"trools" out there and am beginning to recognize it when see it. Currently i am at a crossroads aboutmy religion. I know jw are abusive, but as my husband says so are a lot of other religions. Mostly he hits hard the catholic church. And being in texas, he really hates the baptists for ther fire breathing hell doctrine. initally my husband was tolerating me looking at this board-but he has grown weary of it. he says we are blowing stuff out of proportion, and taking stuff out of context and u name it-that is what he says. I was just hoping for some ideas to help him see that jw are abusive -and it is worse since they cliam to be God's people. I guess u can't make someone see things until they are ready.

as she proceded to pierce my ear drum she relayed to me that channel 8 news is coming to her house today for an interview...guess what they will be discussing?!!!

well in my teens and 20's i was eager to talk and people enjoyed talking to me. By the time i reached my 30's i was just about and end of FS carrer. i had made up my mind never to involve anyone else in this abusive realigion. so mostly i would then get in a cr group with sis doing not at homes. Mostly they were still not at home.Or leave mags at laundy mats. Also, many times my parterners and i amuse ourselfs by discussing the house, landscape etc. otherwise, we would talk about intimate problems and gossip at he door. They really made time fly.Eventullay i stopped altogether.

Anyone taken legal action in DF'ing?
by startingover ina close friend of mine, in fact a lurker here, got a call last night inviting him to a jc meeting, accused of apostasy.
he would like to avoid this because of the things it would complicate, and would like to just be left alone.
i know in the past i have read comments of some who have threatened legal action in this situation.

This looks good, however, they for one won't have to tell the cong. to shun u. All JW know they are supposed to shun a DA or DF person. Just by the announcemnt there is implied threat to the rest of JW -they all know to talk to u would result in a JC meeting of their own.
I looked on the jw offical site, and they proudly declare that no one has ever been successful in the usa of suing over shunning. And one case went to supreme court. they proudly say the usa upholds the right of a religious org to make its own rules and will not interfere with them. the usa only does this so we don't lose our rights-not b/c they like jw. But look what is tolerated in the name of freedom of speech .
We may see some change with people growing weary of extremism in religion, however, it will be a fight. And likely those of us in usa will lose some freedoms if jw lose some of theirs.

i assure u the story is legit. It was in early 80's i was working in hospital, and sat with 2 nurses who were discusiing this nurses 'dilema" she was a horribly depressed person, but could not bring herself to not follow the pope commands to not use birth control So she felt she could not marry. what was worse, the oher nurse, also a catholic, chastise her for even thinking of not doing what pope said. she was sad and depressed and ill a lot to the time. i will never forget that conversation.
BTW, what do u mean by cultural catholic?
