Cedars you are my hero.
i mentioned on a recent thread by irondork that my wife recently showed me a handwritten list of grievances i had against the society from before i had ever visited a single apostate website (apart from wikipedia).
the thread is below:.

hello - i am new here .. just joined a couple of days ago, and have enjoyed the bit of lurking that i have done.
a breif history, i was raised as a jw, was active until i was 36, and was a regular pioneer for 7 years and a ministerial servant for 5 years, and was one when i left.
my reasons for leaving are not important at this point, but i have spent the last year or so researching the flood and more extensively the theory of evolution.. i have finally decided to broach the topic with my mother since after all this time, the last of my jw friends and my brother and sister have all decided that they should shun me now, and i want to make a last ditch effort to convey to my mother that i didn't leave the organization so i could do lines of coke off a cheap hooker, but because i actually believe that this is not the truth.. i'd love some feedback on the email and what you think the possibility of it actually breaking through the "permafrost" created by the society.
Wow, our reasons for leaving are exactly the same. It's why I'm now in school to become a HS biology teacher. It's a good email and I hope your mom reads it. They raised us with a since of honesty and integrity. It's ironic that these are the things that force us to stand up to the WBTS once we realize they are blatantly deceiving us on science. Lucky for them we can just be cut out and thrown away like a tumor. I can't imagine the damage (education) could do if I wen't shunned.
whats up with the bling'd out, kid raising governing body?
in my day governing body members we really old.. those were the days....

i was having a discussion elsewhere on the internet about why people believe and why people don't believe in god.. i am of the opinion that people believe in god, not for evidential reasons, but instead because they have some emotional feeling that god exists.
no amount of logic will make someone like this stop believing (any more than trying to talk someone out of being in love).
the same goes for athiests.
I felt in my guts that he was there and it was all true, and then the feeling went away, which is what made me read The God Delusion... It wasn't the other way around. I didn't deconvert because of the strengh of the opposing arguments.
I wonder how many people are like this.
how a spouse could get an obstinate unbeliever to leave the marriage?
i read someone talking about it on another board and i dont have a cd-rom to look it up.
it was supposed to have come been in an older publication and listed many tactics for how to get them to leave the marriage.
I would be very interested in reading that too... bookmarked.

The same goes for athiests. They don't 'feel' gods presence and so going to their door week after week is a waste. You can't force someone to feel something, so almost no one ever changes what they believe.
It's why the god debate will never end.
It makes me thing of the old question from an athiest to a Christian, "what would make you stop believing?" for most christians the honest answer is... Nothing.
while growing up as a jw this was a question i often wondered about: did jesus ever call his heavenly father by the name jehovah?
and if he did, why wasn't it recorded.. i know there's plenty of references such as john 17:6, 26 where it says "i have made your name manifest to the men ...".
however is there anywhere in the bible where jesus used the actual word jehovah?.
If they had no J sound then he also never even said his own name as "Jesus" in his entire life... haha
yes some of you gullible fools likely thought it was a wt offer...but you forget how i roll!
oompa pledges $1000.00 to any jw that actually makes a door to door convert!..........that:.
1. has free access to the internet and has no phobia about using it for research.
I like how you put in "emotionally disturbed" as your safety net since every gullible fool how gets dunked qualifies.
pharyngula has the biggest readership of any science blog on the internet.
pz myers is a biologist and well known critic of religion.. .
jehovahs witnesses once again confirm that theyre a mob of dour, po-faced killjoys.
Oh thats great, PZs blog is huge!
just wondering how many people on this board would consider themselves a socialist or communist?.
.
Bizzy nailed it. It's the exact post I would have written if she'd not got it first.
