just curious, an elderly elder in sacramento was speaking fondly of his bethel buddy bill setnuer (sp) last year.

isn't bill a famous ex jw ?.

any info?.

WOW!!!

This is a go to site. This Elder -ex Bethelite passed not long ago. He was quite the hatchet man. He went on and on about what a great guy Bill was..over a hundred came to his funeral in Elk Grove.

How did you break the news to your parents?

so one of the things both me and my wife are faced with is breaking the news that we've stopped going to meetings to our parents.

my wifes parents could go either way, they have made several critical remarks of the wt over the years, while my parents are die hard jw's.

i tossed the idea around of sending a letter or doing a phone call or just not saying anything.. we've decided that were just tired of having to hide our true feelings and play pretend.

Sorry you are conflicted. Why hurt them and yourself?

Say nothing. Ask about THEM. Go someplace -sightsee during meeting times. Say short prayers and mention THEM in the prayers.

If it comes up...say you where a bit stumbled...have no issue with god, the bible or Jesus..just some men (GB) and you are "Waiting on Jehovah" to fix it (at home..in an easy chair ).

If it comes up they will be pissed someone stumbled you...if pressed...."I don't want to gossip". End of conversation. Works for us..so far.

Take the high road be pleasant..respect their beliefs. my 2 cents.

so i've been away from my country for a year now, working in this fantastic country in europe.

or maybe that should be "nightmare" - not dream.. it happens less and less, but still does now and again after 10 years.

it's always associated with a great feeling of dread and going from door to door knowing you do not believe what you are saying (i should point out that, while i was in it, i pretty much did believe it).. i guess it shows how big a part of our lives it once was - a bit like you often dream of being in school or of long-departed relatives..

i'd just like to see who here has served at bethel, including myself.

this may be useful for those that have specific questions about bethel, but don't know who of us actually served there.

could we hear from those that served at bethel and where you served?

70s here. Since I am a "fader" with friends and family still at Bethel I can't share specifics.

The weird part is that you SEE some weird stuff, and simply repeating what you saw could result in being disfellowshipped..no acusations against "an older man without 2 or more witnesses".

Bethel WAS an asshole airport. Some neat people, but the percentage of pompous and weird was off the charts.
