That is a new one to me! (I frequently have been a bad boy, using Expedia, AAA etc beating WTBS out of the Travel agent booking fee $$ and staying MUCH CLOSER for LESS $$). Never wore my badge at the hotel- seemed corny.

I always found disturbing how some of the sisters who worked in Records, billing and admitting for Hospitals and Doctors offices would call Elders when the found any J.W. (that info is in many Medical Records) had VD/STDs, Abortions, blood transfusions, Hep C or the "wrong" blood fraction in their medical records. Quite a few JWs have been disfellowshiped over medical records.

The only ones who didn't get handled judicially, were the ones that denied it..said it was a lie or a "misunderstanding, and demanded to face their accusers. Usually the Medical Clerks would recant or refuse to testify for fear of Job loss, lawsuits, and blacklisting. Did you ever run into this?

Hi Band on the run,

Without giving any identifiers, I worked for a Government Agency in the past and I know lots of J.W.s who also have. I also had a High Level security clearance, as did a number of other J.W.s. I NEVER passed along any info., nor was I in a position too. Nevertheless, I know for a fact first hand from a governing body member while I served at Bethel, WTBS was warned of IRS and other investigations from Federal Employees that resulted in major organizational changes. I know J.W.s who are attorneys... obviously, they attended college. There are attorneys at Bethel. There was a Doctor (Dickson) at Bethel. Dentist. CPAs. Chiropractors, Etc. I have known many J.W.s with college degrees, although because of WTBS teachings there is a much lower percentage of educated J.W.S compared to the general population. Some ignored the GB as kids, or attended College P/T for years as adults to get an education.

Thanks EVERYONE for your hospitality! This has been very theraputic, and encouraging to the wife and I. It feels great to get some things off our chest. For over 50 years we were never "good" enough for the G.B. It feels good to step out into the light and realize we are not alone. The site also serves as a type of "group". Regular therapy is difficult, and group almost impossible, because to most people this Religion sounds like a cross between the Puritan Witch hunters, the Amish and Jonestown. In fact the wife explains JWs to outsiders as "Amish with lipstick." Her therapist calls it "Barbaric".

My only problem is the friendly people here being referred to as "Apostates". Not so. Only a certain US Corporation deserves that title!!

i found this site randomly the other day on an unrelated search, and its nice to find a place where people can discuss a relgion that in house cannot be discussed without either being quoted mantras or a very skewed view of the world.. ok about me.. im a 24 year old taiwanese-american, and i have been raised as a jw from the age of about three to the age of 17, when i unoffically left.

i started to have doubts around age 12, but did what i was supposed to to keep mommy and daddy happy.

my parents are jws, as well as my older 1/2 sister, and my younger sister.

WT Society Appoints Elders/MS Based on " Functions " Performed - not ....

........... holy spirit or any " fruitages of the spirit " like love, kindness, mildness, meekness , etc.

shown by men considered for elder or ms positions.

qualities or true positive character traits are not that important to the wt society in appointments of these men in jw congregations.. no, the real " qualifications " that a jw man needs to exhibit is being able to report 10 hours a month in knocking on people's doors offering wt and awake magazines !

"I stepped down as an MS because I wanted to devote more time to my children and family. I may have in time been appointed an elder- but I didn't WANT that position as it was more important to take care of my family.

I knew MANY other Ministerial servants who CHOSE not to "reach out" for elder position for the same reason."

One brother, a straight shooter and ex- elder I REALLYrespected, EVERY MONTH turned in 6 hours of time. Now we went out together every weekend. I knew he got at least 10 hours in Field service. So before the C.O.s visit I said "...I KNOW you got at LEAST 10 hrs in every month for the last year, why are you only putting 6 hrs on your time card? You will never get re-appointed. He just looked at me..smiled..then said.... "EXACTLY".

He explained if he put down more time he would get pestered to serve. If he turned down the appointment he would be labled with a "Bad Attitude", if he turned in less time than 6 hours..same thing.."Weak" or "Bad Attitude" he just wanted to serve Jehovah and be left alone. An honest man.

Hi Band on the run,

Only "agents " have to take the full monty background. These agencies have tons of "Civilian" staff. As long as the agency is not deemed " Full on Military" it is A OK for a JW to have employment there. So all the permutations of Justice department, Treasury, and Congress is OK. Some argument over the Coast Guard. The Oath is the same as the one at the Post Office & passport which the GB OKd in the 60s ( They like to travel.. !). The background is EASY for most JWs to pass. Finger print check. No drugs, or convictions. Arrests must be fully explained. Piss test. High School Grad. Read and write clearly. Civil service exam.

Who knows GB email adresses?

just an idea: could we contact members of the gb thru email...or even snail mail, to let them know how many of us are aware of what is on the horizon in australia with the wwc/unthank/victoria court case with hopes of urging them to come clean.

if i were amongst the gb members, i would be losing sleep after watching whats happening to penn states joe paterno, jerry sandusky and mcqeary for taking part in the pedophilia scandal cover-up and the responsibility they did not fulfill in contacting the the police to handle the situation instead of handing it of to their next-up superior.

i doubt the gb would be so honest as to take any action, but it would be interesting to test the idea.......make them squirm, perhaps.

The WBTS has a "Thing" about anything sent registered stamped "Confidential". It may get through, but they all have assistants.

I agree with Bible Student. Letters to the editor are powerful and the GB hates them. They also get good Search Engine hits. Remember..".Advertise, Advertise , Advertise...."

I have tried Key word hits on this site. It gets good traffic and page views. 40k per day- that is like FOUR district conventions!!! I set some Googel alerts, for WATCHTOWER BIBLE AND TRACT SOCIETY and just 6 hours later I was getting headings from JVN that matched... in my gmail Box!

So even JWs who have not joined JVN will get your Post in thier EMAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can get in about 9 words for a heading that will get picked up by google. Ie: "Watchtower Bible and Tract Society &, Samuel Heard, said:

That would hit alerts for Samuel Heard, AND Watchtower. Thousands of JWs have Google keyword alerts set up for JW news, Obituaries, Kingdom Hall builds, scandals..as does Bethel . JUST USE FULL TITLES in THE SUBJECT BOX. Abreviations do not work. That in turn will drive more traffic to this site and ...curiosity killed the cat!! :)

Just think of all those new Smart Phones with Web Access. Work, Home, Schools- even in 3rd world countries! Even Telephonica De Mexico's new Trac Phones have Web Access. In the next 12 months they will be unable to contain the REAL Truth. Just be careful of libel regs.

When I served at Bethel the Governing Body had direct telephone access to a number of loyal J.W.s who held jobs at various government agencies who served as sources of information and in some cases could internally "lobby"or "fix" things for them.

I also briefly knew a middle aged single brother, a Gilead Grad, who lived out of cheap hotels traveling around the country doing the GBs bidding. Sometimes he would just "visit a hall" for a week sit in the back, watch and turn in a report. He always told JWs he was "in town for a week for work". He would go out in service a little midweek to "get all the gossip from the pioneer sisters". Indicated he checked out Circuit Overssers and Apostate Elders. He was very introverted, quiet & bottled up. Looked like he was ready for a breakdown. Said he hated his job, and had no life, or friends. He showed up one day...was around for a couple of months and disappeared. Never saw or heard from him again. Almost handsome, certainly not a James Bond but I could see the mid-week sisters inviting him to lunch..:).

The BIG issue at the time was an IRS investigation into non-profit status of many US Religions & TV "ministries" J.W.s were targeted. (The government is ALWAYS looking for $$ and the WTBTS is ALWAYS looking to keep $$). Well it just so happened the IRS unit investigating CHURCHES had a secretary who was a JW. Every new development in the investigation was relayed to the Governing Body (She typed them). They had a LONG lead time to stop Charging for magazines at the door. Did you really think that change was because of "New Light from God" ? The wife of a Governing Body member I worked with for a while told me about it, when her husband came by for coffee, he confirmed it with a big "Cat ate the Canary smile". He went on to brag about how hundreds of brothers and sisters worked at All kinds of government agencies from secretarys and clerks to management, and had private Governing Body phone numbers to call with any "new developments" affecting the Society. Some were just "sisters who were "well placed & well liked" secretaries whose "first loyalty was to God" Everyone just grinned..."Theocratic strategic warfare" There was even one brother who was on a Secret Lockhead project- area 51 stuff.!!....... Now I find it creepy..like the famous volunteer Mossad..just without guns..(I hope.... since I have dared to question them I am now a "mentally diseased APOSTATE worthy of death ").

A few years ago a local sister who is a friend and paralegal married a Bethelite and moved there. I was astounded at how the legal department had mushroomed in size. And hundreds of attornies and para-legals do free "side work for the Society on weekends. Can you imagine a small lawfirm or D.A. going up against a billion dollar organization with dozens of free Attornies and "the D.A.s own secretarial staff being "loyal to God first" faxing private investigative work product every night to Bethel????? No wonder the Society has such a high win rate!
