Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality

i'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?

" of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.

however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

re beards.

I had a beard once. It was tidy and a full beard in the manner of King george V. (Just so you get the picture).

With no warning whatever the 'service meeting' on night was devoted entirely to beards. i was the only brother in the hall bearded.

My wife in a rare display of support said she was offended by sisters turning up in strappy little bare all dresses.

The elder doing the bashing had his daughter slink down in her seat as she was so dressed.

Did Jesus have a beard?

Whats the problem with beards? Why did Jesus design us males to have facial hair?

Whats next, checks on Bikini line waxing?

There was a time when we were told via 'Service meeting' and on other occasions that not everyone in the cong was a good associate.

'Divide and conquer', i thought.

But when people are denied but the most basic education it is easy to do this.

As for those who are more 'active' than others; is it to get their 'hours' in?

I recall a family who were considered elite. Doing long country runs witnessing was the norm. They all booked 'hours' the five of them but in all likelihood only witnessed to one or two housholds in each run but the 'hours' looked impressive.

If someone 'shuns' you because you dont meet the/their 'standards' its their loss.

Draconian Rules for Attending "Special Convention"

british dubs are invited to attend a special convention next summer in dublin , irish republic.

o k, this kind of trip has been done many times before.

however i have never seen such a crude and rigid set of rules that would apply to their own people going on a trip, at their own expense of course.

It sounds to me like a photo op convention for the'very' faithful.

Perhaps they will give an honest open rundown on the refusal by Elders in the town of Traralgon (State of Victoria, Australia) to apply for "Working with Children" Police clearances required by law in all Australian states.

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs

thw wts likes to play games with their statistics.

one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?

if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

Circuit Assembly Confronting Apostate Challenge

well, i sat thru day 2 of the latest circuit assembly.

instead of having the co or do re address the "generation" confusion, they had a couple of brothers do a demonstration.

mocha break out in service, weaker brother mentions he's tired....all of the changes lately, the confusing new understanding of that generation, et al.

The comments by RayPublisher are telling. This idiotic advice to Elders on what to look for ina 'repentent' person is an utter condemnation of the wts failure to properly educate its Elders. Few things can more dangerous to the public/members of any faith than elders in charge playing at Psychologist and this here is what they are doing.

All Elders should have to pass a approved (worldly shock horror!) college course in "Interpersonal skills" or "Human relationships" at at least Diploma level.

If this is not available locally in whatever country then they should get to and write one passing through the appropriate authority in the respective country after all they dont mind being a part of the UN do they?

depressed and starting to loose it

sooo... it has been a few good months since i started having doubts and started researching.

now very much convinced i had been lied to and my parents had not done their homework prior being baptised therefore it fucked up my future ... just a bit.

now also had been going out with a jw girl for 1,5 years... and i am starting to loose it... stuck in a lie, delaying the getting engaged because of my attitude towards religion(she knows i had doubts and always have been anti watchtower - got baptized anyway... stupid me - but she doesn't make a big deal out of it... she is not very strong spiritually) ergo i know i am not fit to be head of the house by jw standards... but i just love her too damn much to break her heart by leaving the organization and ergo leaving her.
