Being raised in the evil empire and being a police officer I can sort through the confusion.

The WB&TS has never written that Jehovah's Witnesses are prohibitted from being police officers. In fact, there was a Questions from the Readers article in 2002 that asked why a recent Awake! article protrayed police in a positive light when Witnesses cannot be police officers. The reply was: "We've never said that. However, if you're thinking of becoming one you should read this" and it had a footnote to an old Watchtower article.

Back in the very early 1980's a Watchtower article came out dealing with murder/killing. It statied that if you had a job the required you to carry a weapon to protect you from other people you had 6 months to find new employment or you would not be able to have any extended privileges in the congregation. I believe the reason for this is, if you were to kill someone, you would become bloodguilty, which is a disfellowshipping offense.

As a result, the mindless masses of Witnesses drew a false conclusion that Witnesses could not be police officers. The fact is just the opposite. Just forget about ever becoming a Ministerial Servant or an Elder. If you save a life, including your own, by fulfilling Romans 13:1-7 be prepared to be disfellowshipped due to a mis-translation of "Thou shall not murder" to "You should not kill" courtesy of the NWT.

Lack of Elders in your hall?

there is an upcoming study article trying to encourage men to reach out.

in my cong there are more former elders and servants than current ones.

i was looking around the other day during a meeting and could only spot one young guy who is reaching out to be an ms. the 5 elders are now running mics.

Here's a list of reasons why the pool of candidates has shrunk to nothing:

1) Economy - How does a man support a wife, kids, and a mortgage on a janitor's salary? To support a family on one income is no small task. Especially if you are only allowed to have a high school education. I say one income because, if your wife is working rather than pioneering, your family is not setting a good example.

2) Work Schedules - the number of jobs, high paying or not, that allow you to have all of your nights and weekends free is dwindling. Especially so in the U.S. where the service industry is now the main employer. Circuit Overseers tell elders that jobs requiring shiftwork are unsuitable.

3) Elder Workload - Mediator, Referee, Marriage Consellor, Psychiatrist; these are but a few responsibilites elders are asked to be. The only training and education they receive on these topics is a book that tells you how to avoid law suits. Not to mention all the parts you have to prepare to deliver and the fact that you have to take the lead in the ministry.

4) Ultimate Self-Denial - Imagine having to deny yourself simple pleasures simply because one person MIGHT have an opinion that such a thing is unbecoming. Television, movies, music, consuming alcohol, interest in sports; kiss them goodbye. We wouldn't want to stumble somebody.

5) It all Smoke & Mirrors - Many still in the evil empire see it for what it is; fairy tales and, as the Romans said, "Taurus Feces". However, they are too afraid of the shunning to give up all together. All their family and friends are still in. They cannot stomach the idea of their loved ones shunning them. So, unless everyone leaves at once, they all stay. Slowly wasting away.

What's The Biggest Difference In Today's JWs And The Witnesses From Decades Ago?

i believe today's witnesses lack zeal, resolve, "love" of the "truth"......just to name a few things.. years ago, witnesses were excited to knock on doors and tell people they were gonna die if they didn't accept paradise.. now, when you see jws in service, they all look zombied out.. it's a slowly dying religion that will last probably forever like an ancient rotted out tree..

I was born into the 1975 period and raised in the 80's & 90's. The big difference is that the joy of life has been steadily sucked out by the evil empire. I have to agree with many posters on joys that were removed/prohibitted.

Emphasis shifted from spiritual things to organizational things.

Simplification was a killjoy to so many things. Assemblies and Conventions became a burden due to the ceasing of food service. Publication explaining the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses were simplified (e.g. going from the Live Forever to Knowledge book) causing new ones to have a weaker foundation.

The social changes were huge. Outlawing social gatherings pretty much killed any joy that was left. It is bad enought that Jehovah's Witnesses are to avoid socializing with non-Witnesses, but then to go a step further and forbid socializing in groups with Witnesses took things too far.

I too remember the days when every weekend my family would invite a family in the congregation over for dinner or we would be invited to another family's home. Hospitality has almost completely died inside the evil empire.

Last but not least, with the change in the "generation" doctrine, there seems to be no end in sight. Sure, you'll read about it in the publications and hear about it from the platform, but no one lives like it. Why? Because they don't believe it. I have even heard elders walk right off the platform after giving a Circuit Assmebly part and whisper, "Armageddon isn't coming anytime, soon."

The dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan ended the bloodiest conflict in human history. Also, the term "worldly" is a derogatory word used to describe anything outside the evil empire. To use it is to judge. It is the same as calling someone a cretin or a pagan, which were derogatory terms used by religion to describe non-believers.

I wonder how long it will take for NYC to issue a cease and desist letter to the evil empire. I could only imagine the logistical nightmare of having to clean up thousands of copies of the New World Translation from the steets and gutters.

Eurozone crisis- the jw's are crowing about it like mad!

over the past few weeks i've been told that the eurozone will go into melt down and that this will be the start of armargeddon because the goverments will then turn on religon to get their money instead.. i have been told that the greek pm almost rejecting the greek bailout plan would lead to armargeddon.

of course much to the jw's disapointment the greek pm resigned and the greeks did accept the bail out.

thus saving the greek banks from collapse and thus the rest of the european banks.. i have been told that italys debt will mean they will plunder the vatican for its wealth!

The so-called fulfilled prophesies in the Bible are not necessarily reason to be believe the end is nigh.

Jesus, the son of God, was supposedly prophesied to appear on earth. This was allegedly fulfilled with the virgin birth through Mary. He then grew to manhood, became a great teacher, and was then impaled. 3 days later he rises from the grave.

What about Horus, Krishna, Buddha, and a score of other non-bibilical prophets/deities who also are written of doing the exact same things as the Biblical Jesus, but centuries earlier? What about the fact that there is no proof outside the Bible that Jesus even existed. Any so-called contemporaries who have written non-scriptual texts containing information about Jesus were written from hear-say accounts and many were written decades after the gospels were written.

Plato and Homer wrote about Hercules as if he were a real, historical person. Hercules was the son of Zeus, born to a pure mortal woman. So, is Hercules real or is he myth? We say "myth". Why? Because no one worships Zeus anymore.

In Islam they teach of "Al-Malhama Al-Kubra" which is the final battle where Allah sends the prophet Isa to earth to defeat Al Dajaal. It's the exact same set up as the Christian "armageddon". So, Islam correct, too?

For that matter, what about the norse Ragnarok? These are all religious "end of the world" scenarios where good finally defeats evil. However, we are supposed to believe that only the scriptures as interpretted by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society is the correct version of the "end of days".

Remember this: We've been told that each day that passes is one day closer to Armageddon. There is a flip-side to that coin. Each day that goes by is one day further from 1914. Every minute that passes with out the end of the world coming to fruition is one more nail in the coffin on another failed doomsday prophesy.

its in page 25 of the 2/15/12 wt study edition (i read the dumbed down version).. .

if there was any question, that the watchtowers stance is for wives to simply take it when their husbands abuse them, this makes it crystal clear.. who the hell is scanning these things before they go to print?

I read the paragraph and see it like this:

Jehovah's Witness woman to domestic violence victim: "The fact that your husband just beat you is not reason enough to put off our Bible study."

ZERO CHRISTIAN LOVE. We did not hear:

1) Are you hurt? Do you need medical attention?

2) Do you need a place to stay where you will be free from violence? You can stay with my family.

3) The congregation will put you up in a safe place until such time you can get on your feet.

This is truly unacceptable cult behavior and here the WTB&TS put this Witness up on a pedastel as an shining example.

be resolved by purchasing the solution: the product.. .

four hundred and twelve billion dollars annually is spent on advertsing in the u.s. ($412 billion).

The product used to be the literature and it still is. Some of us may remember when we actually purchased magazines and books to place in the ministry. I think I was in high school when we stopped that arrangement and went to the voluntary donation scam.

First, the donations to the World Wide Work were to be used to pay for the Bethel homes/factories and travelling brothers (i.e. agents of the evil empire aka Circuit/District Overseers). So, we were paying for the property, equipment, materials and personnel required to print the literature. Then we paid for the literature. If we placed the literature with a person we were to ask them for a voluntary donation as well.

Cost to manufacture 1 set of magazines = $1.00 (for the sake of this argument)

You donate $1.00 for each set you pick up at the magazine counter.

You donate $1.00 to the World Wide Work to help support the ministry (which includes the printing of that set of magazines).

The householder you place that set of magazines with donates $1.00, as well.

So, in theory, the evil empire is potentially raking in 200% in profits and never had to front any money. Oh, by the way, 100% of those profits are tax exempt because it is a religious organization.

All the "simplification" we have seen in the past 2 decades has allegedly been done to lessen the burden on the brothers. I envoke the ancient Roman rite of Taurus Feces on that one. Once the whole voluntary donation thing kicked in profits went down. So, this "simplification" is just corporate downsizing.

Remember this folks; work hard and make lots of money. Thousands of welfare recipiant(Bethelites, COs, DOs) are depending on you.

Do You Honestly Believe ANY Politician Will Make YOUR Life That Much Better?

i have to believe that in this day and age, they all suck.. and in the thousands of years of politics, i don't think there's any person or party that made life all that much better.

(except maybe during fdr's reign)....but i'm not sure if all those programs that were instituted didn't produce the mess we're in now..

Yes. I do. I meet with my local elected officials on a regular basis. Sometimes they seek me out for my opinion.

Things are better where I am at because people like me are getting more active on the local level.

What was the last meeting you ever went to?

i figured out it's been 4 months and 5 days since my last meeting ever.

july 10th, it was a sunday.

i hadn't been there in 2 months or so and decided to see if anyone noticed i'd been gone.

I remember it was the Sunday public talk and Watchtower Study. I remember before and after the meeting no one spoke to me...at all. Mind you, I have never been disfellowshipped. Although I do believe I may have been "marked".

The only reason I believe this was I remember the second to last Circuit Assembly I went to. There was a talk which had an example of a brother who drifted away because of his involvement in his union at work. I thought, "Hey! That's me. Wow! I'm being used as an example of what not to do."
