In the 1970s my father did a study on the number of mentally ill becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses. The number was high and he received orders from the Watchtower Society to bury the study. Historically, demon possession and other related topics are in reality persons dealing with physical or mental illness.

One day, when I was 13, my father threw away my comic book collection. At that time I owned certain comics that were individually worth over $100.00. He said they must be thrown away just like the first century christians who burned their magic practicing book.
I threw away all my Watchtower publications. Box after box of bound volumes, aid books, etc. After all, the first century christians burned all of their evil books.

No Refusal Blood Checkpoints!
by minimus inin oregon, during the 4th of july weekend, troopers will be conducting checkpoints to see if someone has been drinking.
if someone refuses a breath test, they will be forced to have their blood extracted from them.. what do you think of this?.

I believe a more correct telling of the tell is persons refusing to give a sample will result in law enforcement obtaining a search warrant for the person's blood.
By accepting a driver license in most states you give implied conset to give a breath or blood sample upon request of a law enforcement officer during an investigation of DWI/DUI.
DWI/DUI is one of the hardest criminal offenses to prove in court. All the alleged defendant has to do during a police investigation is refuse to perform standardized field sobriety tests and refuse to a a breath/blood sample. This pretty much prevents most evidence of the crime from being used against them and forces the police to obtain a search warrant for blood. During this time, the defendant's body is eliminated the alcohol in his blood, literally destroying evidence.
In addition, the Kansas City Study showed that the level of visible presence of police in a community has no effect on the level of crimes committed. More or less marked cars. More or less uniformed officers. No change in the level of crime.

This is a CASTING CALL . . . for a scene in my book
by Terry inattention!.
i'm in my final re-write of the monorails of mars novel.. as you may know, the book is a sci-fi allegory concerning mind control by the watch tower.. .
i have a scene in nikola tesla's laboratory in which he is about to attempt an exchange between mars and earth.. the volunteers--instead of actually traveling physically from one planet to the other will instead swap minds.. need i say--it will go wrong?!.

Count me in. Reading a book about Mars is what actually got me on the road to leave the organization.

Are you old enough to enlist in the military?
My only regret in life is that I did not join the military when I was young. I came close after high school graduation, but I was in to deep in the organization.
On top of having all of life's necessities provided, you can learn skills and trades marketable in the private sector. On top of it all it sends a powerful message to Jehovah's Witnesses.

is it disturbing to you when an author jumps into the flow of history and radically departs in order to drive an important lesson home to the reader?.
in this novel i have several watch tower leaders meeting incredibly violent deaths at the hands of --well, i won't give anything away.

First, I would like to thank you for taking on this project. I, too, wanted to write a science fiction novel that had an allegory of the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society and Jehovah's Witnesses.
Second, I would offer to proof your book. I believe I actually live relatively close to you.
Growing up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses I was and still am an advid fan of science fiction. My mother blames my father for this. She still holds it against him for taking me to see Star Wars back in 1977 when I was 3.
I found that many Jehovah's Witnesses are huge Star Trek fans. Gene Roddenberry's utopian future of humans living in peace problably strikes a chord with those hoping for a paradise earth. However, they miss the fact that Roddenberry was an aethist and his vision of the future was sans religion.
I think you chose wisely on using science fiction be the tool to deliver your message. That's how Star Trek got away with anti-war and racial harmony messages during the 1960s.
I think if you make a character that the readers adore and than have this oppressive regime who changes the rules as the go constantly harassing him, you will reach the hearts and minds of your readers.

Two points of entry for the Dallas Convention?
by CaptainSchmideo inanyone else hear about this?
i got this second hand from my wife, who got it from her mom.. .
apparently, there will be two points of entry to the convention.

I might be wrong, but I do believe the Dallas, Texas convention is actually in Arlington at the AT&T Stadium aka Cowboys Stadium aka Jerry's World. This is probably as a result of the stadium's security administrator. This is the same tool who tried to prevent police officers from entering the stadium with a weapon.

The only one I went to and remember went like this:
1) Meeting with MS and Elders - The circuit has two huge problems; oral sex and foul langauage. Any brother who masturbates or receives head should be removed. Any brother who says the word "crap" should be removed.
2) Meeting with just the Elders - Ministerial Servants; GTFO! Elders only!

An increase in security at this summer's conventions??
by gingerbread inwe've heard from friends in two separate congregations in our city that convention security will be tight.. the brothers made announcements this week and reminded everyone to be sure to wear their name badges.
those that don't may be questioned and have their belongings searched.
the same will be happen to anyone arriving during the sessions.

This only applies to the United States of America:
If you are entering a privately owned facility you and your items may be searched as a condition of entrance. Police officers are prohibited from searching your bags/belongings without a search warrant or probable cause. Only private security can search you as terms on entrance.
This is what happens when you attempt to enter a professional sports event or any other event at a large forum/arena.
