Is the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses REALLY the "faithful and discreet slave" of Matt. 24:45-47?
by Roger Kirkpatrick inthesis: when someone who is given a responsibility mistakes that responsibility for authority, bullying is very likely to occur.. jesus spoke an illustration recorded at matthew 24: 45-51 which well illustrates this thesis.. jesus asked, “who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over all his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?
happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so.
truly i say to you, he will appoint him over all his belongings.

What I could never understand about the wording of that parable is that the faithful and wicked slave are one in the same. - Nowwhat?
Yes! This! Nowwhat for the win!
First, it is a parable. Second, in this parable there isn't a separate evil slave from the faithful slave. Third, there is no mention or even insinuation in this parable that there is a class of people who comprise said slave.

PunkofNice:
I know I do. It was worse in the past. I do take solace in the fact that more Witnesses are quitting. I had Witness friends in high school who are now our age. Their kids all stopped being Witnesses right out of high school.
I have a close friend who got our long before I did. He is uber resentful. He wants to file lawsuit against the Watchtower for all his time that was spent in the door-to-door ministry as a child.
I think it is natural. It is more of a matter of how much it is interfering with your ability to enjoy life now. Some time it does require some sort of resolution.
I haven't explained anything to my own father. I just made it clear in recent history that I will never be one of Jehovah's Witnesses again.

I guess the clarifying question I have is this -
Why are you defending the Watchtower for something that did happen, but the Watchtower refuses to admit to doing? What could possibly go wrong if the Watchtower admitted to joining the United Nations/Image of the Wild Beast?
Of course, forgiveness from Jehovah requires repentance. Freely admitting to wrongdoing is required in repenting. So, since the Watchtower has not admitted and apologized for joining the United Nations the Watchtower has not repented and is not forgiven.

I found it amazing that Queen Elizabeth II welcomed in the past 15 Prime Ministers of the UK.

Replacing God?
by punkofnice inwe seem to be if a more secular society here in the west, these days.
i'm speaking from the uk.. with the lack of belief in god/s, i'm wondering if all the seeming (note: i said seeming!
), deification of people like greta thunberg, george floyd and celebs amongst others, if people who have no real belief system, are filling the gap left by god with people?.

Humans are simian, apes. We are a social species. It is vital to our survival.
Religion has a use and still does. Like so many things that start off with a good and noble purpose, religion was twisted for selfish reasons. Religion was changed to be used as a means to control and exploits the social nature of humans.
Humans generally want to belong to a group. Religion played a huge part in this. Where do people usually find friends and future marriage mates? Work and their place of worship.
PunkofNice, I think you are on to something for sure. It also seems like, at least here in the U.S., that politics and government have become the new religion. Just like with religion, it is a form of tribalism.

EnoughisEnough:
My father became a JW in his late 20's during the 1960's. He immediately professed to be of the Annointed. After marrying my mother, my parents were accepted to Gilead. However, after reporting to school my mother found out she was pregnant.
My father was an elder from as far back as I could remember. He was always the Presiding Overseer. He was invited to give talks and the Memorial Talk everywhere. Sometimes as a kid I had to attended 2 Memorials as my dad gave the talk to the first and then the later Memorial.
My dad moved the family to another state and things went downhill. About 13 years later my dad confessed to me that things would have gone downhill if we stayed. The Circuit Overseer we had just received in our home state back in the late 80's had a reputation for singling out JWs who professed to be of the Annointed. He would pressure the local bodies of elders of the Annointed person to do whatever they could push that person out. My dad personally knew 1 brother and 1 sister who were disfellowshipped as a result of this.
I saw it again in the early 90's. The District Overseer we had in the 1980's at the same time was now the District Overseer in our District. Almost immediately he told our congregation elders that my father was to have absolutely no privileges outside of answering and field service. No explanation was given.
It was difficult because I was a Ministerial Servant in the congregation at that time and attended the same book study as my dad. I was ordered that if I had to conduct the book study (which was almost every week at that time) I was not to use my father to read. The problem was that often my father and I were the only 2 brothers present. I didn't want to embarrass my dad by having one of the sisters there read instead of him. I chose to just read myself. It was miserable.

- In the early 90's when the Watchtower changed its stance on alternative service in lieu of compulsory military service. How many JW men went to prison for no good reason?
- In the early 2000's I learned that there are Circuit and District Overseers who seek out those who profess to be of the Annointed to persecute them with the goal of disfellowshipping them.
- When I found out 17 years after my father moved the family the new Presiding Overseer feared my father (someone who professes to be of the Annointed) would take his place and told the congregation privately not to associate with us.
